  • Random Harvest is one of my favorite movies so I did this little tribute for it :) it may spoil it if you haven't seen the movie, in that case see the movie then come back and watch this ;P haha, seriously, watch the movie! :D
I made this with a different song, "Left Behind" from the musical "Spring Awakening" but it was third party content so I had to change the music so now it's the theme from "Legends of the Fall", I hope you'll like it anyway :) Enjoy!

I watched this for the first time just a few days ago. I've watched movies from the 30's & 40's for about 60 years, and it takes a lot to really impress me. This movie took my breath away. I feel so lucky to have seen this incredibly touching story, portrayed by such fine actors.

My mother, who passed last year, saw this in the theater when she was about 13. It was the first movie she ever saw in a theater; she went with her older sister. They were both blown away. My Mom was not really a movie buff; she rarely remembered the details of most of the films she watched over her lifetime. But she always remembered this one and how much she loved it.

A rare film. They certainly don't make them this way anymore. Mostly, integrity and honor have lost its place on stage in many modern day movies.

Magnificent Tribute to one of the greatest romantic films ever made in Hollywood. It is also one of my personal favorite love stories.Superb direction, acting, and script. The movie was based on the novel by James Hilton, who also wrote "Lost Horizon".Greer Garson would also win the Oscar for Best Actress in 1942 for "Mrs. Miniver",and Ronald Colman would later win the Oscar for Best Actor for "A Double Life" in 1947.Sad that Hollywood no longer makes great romantic films like "Random Harvest" anymore. It only chooses to make films emphasizing the dark nature of mankind, rather than the power and glory of love.My own personal Top Ten List of the greatest love stories to come out of Hollywood are these: "Love Letters" with Jennifer Jones and Joseph Cotten,"Random Harvest" with Ronald Colman and Greer Garson,"Shop Around The Corner" with Margaret Sullivan and James Stewart,"I'll Be Seeing You" with Ginger Rogers and Joseph Cotten,"The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" with Gene Tierney and Rex Harrison,"Portrait of Jenny" with Jennifer Jones and Joseph Cotten,"An Affair To Remember" with Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr,"Lilie" with Leslie Caron and Mel Ferrer,"Tammy and the Bachelor" with Debbie Reynolds and Leslie Nielsen,"It Happened One Night" with Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert,"Breakfast At Tiffany's"with Audrey Hepburn and George Peppard.

Such a beautiful, pure minded film showing how true love conquers, even in the face of adversity and loss. The ending always has me in floods of tears, as well as many other scenes. For example, the proposal at the picnic, Paula looking after Smithy with such heartfelt tenderness when he was suffering from the 'flu (major pandemic in 1918) and much more. No sex, violence, foul language or abuse of any kind. This film set such high standards which are hardly ever matched these days.

I just watched this for the first time, and I truly believe it's one of the most romantic stories ever.
The pure love, adoration, loyalty, and compassion that they both have for each other shines in every scene and line in this movie. The lengths Paula goes to in order to try and make her darling husband remember - and the selflessness to make him remember on his own. She didn't want to force him, to make him resent her by just plainly telling him. And my god, the strength it took her for YEARS to be near him, be next to him, to watch him nearly marry someone else, to be left completely alone after their only child passes away, my god. And still she never gave up. And he never gave up, either. Always knew there was something missing, someone he should remember. Their love was so strong that it literally transcended time and memory.
I just love this movie so much

Happy Happy Birthday Greer Garson! I love all your films. You were one of the best actresses whoever graced the screen! You were so very beautiful and I love the sound of your voice. My only regret is that your films in the 40s were not in color. I love this film! It is my favorite of all your films! I am so very greatful that it has never been remade. In the end when Ronald Coleman put the key though the door and you say 'Smitty' and he turns, I am crying buckets and buckets of tears. it gets me every time. They don't make them like this anymore! Nor do we have actresses like you! We are the poorer for it.

Beautiful homage. The music used , though not period of the film, is very respectful and fitting. Allowing the dialogue and music at the end is so sensitive an poetic. Thank you. Youd have to have a glass eye or heart of stone not to cry at the end. Fortunately I have neither.

One of the best endings to any movie ever ... the look on Ronald Colman's face at 4:42 ... realization, shock, disbelief, joy, clarity, and love all in one smile ... my word that man could act!! ... I feel sorry for anyone who doesn't feel a burst of satisfaction when Greer Garson whispers "Oh, darling" as it hits her that she finally has her true love back ... their chemistry in this film is off the charts ... Thank you so much for including the original ending at the end of your gorgeous, amazing tribute ...

Watch Outlander. It’s comparable and lots of war battles that are long but forgotten. Until brought to light in films and stories of this nature. Can be a bit graphic but reminds of the power of this film especially the season 5 grand finale. My wife and I power-watched it during the pandemic. Who doesn’t want this in their life. Great story indeed. They should remake it with Catriona Balfe in the lead role.

Random Harvest is 80 years old. If we had US politicians that looked after the public interest instead of greedy rats that buy the copyright and control this piece of art in perpetuity we might just be able to view this masterpiece without having our pockets picked into the next century. This film should be in the public domain.

Released in 1942 during the bleakest time for the Allies during World War II, Random Harvest was inspirational fare for both deployed service members and their separated loved ones back at home. Two British film stars in Hollywood giving it all they had to make a contribution to the war effort. In real life, Ronald Colman was a World War I veteran that had been wounded in battle and afterwards carried a life-long limp.

    「ひまわり」「哀愁」「シェルブールの雨傘」いずれも戦争絡みの悲恋だけど、「心の旅路」だけは最後に救いがあった。

Haven't seen this movie since 50 years ago on TV when I was a kid, but clearly remember the theme. Saw this movie yesterday on TCM, but as I had to take a phone call, I missed the part on how Paula find her husband Smithy when he did not return to her and their baby son. How did she end up working as Charles' assistant? Can someone fill me in? When I returned to watching the movie, I was able to catch the ending. When Paula called out to "Smithy" and he turned around and finally recognized her and responded "Paula!", I lost it and the tears flowed to no end. Funny, Ronald Coleman's character had amnesia twice! I love this love story!

I have never read the book, but watching the movie on TCM, Robert Osborne said that in the book, Paula and Margaret were not identified as the same person until the last page in the book, meant to be a surprise ending. This could not be done in the movie of course.
