I knew I had to run away, but back then in the 1980’s things were so different & I didn’t know of any resources or places to help (especially if you were Black like me). I identified with the song and original video so much - of being assaulted and then blamed for it, of being given a few quid instead of a hug. It’s almost 30 years since I finally ran away & I’m out as bi and nonbinary now, but this song will always resonate with my life. Thank you, Jimmy for this tune.

Never seen a man put so much heart, soul and balls into a live performance! Seen plenty of artists just passing through and plugging the new album, tour etc. Jimmy sings from his heart, that's how he touches yours, guy still leaves me breathless! 🤠
Well said!!
This is still an absolute belter of a tune. It has never aged and will sound good in another 38 years time.
I’m 58 ,so 80s was my era ,,I bought this song ,then album ,,,I was there ,,,fantastic music ,fashion ,attitude………lost now ,,,,,,so sad
The 80’s were different! I was young and we grew up fast but I feel blessed to have experience it.
Przeglądając TH-cam przypomniałam sobie tę piosenkę, miałam 20 lat jak była jej premiera. Wtedy mieszkałam w Polsce a teraz w Niemczech.
Dude hasn't stopped hitting those notes, perks up my heart!!
80s music what era and joy to be alive
I am neither gay nor communist, but I consider this song to be one of the greatest and most courageous songs of the last century!
same here amazing song . means so much .
What does being communist have to do with anything?
And yet those two factors contributed so significantly to the amazing artist that he is
1
Sounds like something a communist would say
Just wow, how a song can relight so much nostalgia is amazing, growing up surround by bands like this sure makes me miss the 80s so much, recording the charts to a cassette and rewinding it by spinning it around on a pen because the rewind button had broken, and often pulling yards of tape out, kids these days will never know the struggle, i just can't listen to the sh!t that's in the charts now a day's. God bless ya Jimmy.
@GARETH TAYLOR I can't even remember the last time I knew what was number one.
@@zacmumblethunder7466 I can't remember the last time I cared. Mostly crap around today.
Shite music today, yes, they cant even write their own shite either.
Same Andrew 👍❤
Straight but bullied kid. The Age Of Consent album helped me finally face my bullies and man up. Jimmy and Bronski Beat drummed a drum. I heard it.
I’m 46 years old. This song was played just before closing time at every goth club I went to. I always associate it now with the party being over. Should put this on my funeral playlist! So beautiful.
Such a great moving song. Still so good 40 years later. One of my all time favourite. And Jimmy still rocking, what a fantastic singer.
Memories of escaping to London from a rural community, early 20s, pink hair, rara skirt, leg warmers, DMs. Freedom, parties, new friends, new experiences.
This song sounds modern in 2022. So beautiful
2024
classics never age
Long live Jimmy Somerville, your timeless music, bridging the divide whether gay or straight. United as loving human beings. RIP to your mate's Bronski and Steinbachek. ❤
This song still gives me chills after all these years
Always
This song still gives me goosebumps, the song was when I was at my lowest, my father imprisoned I had a fight with my mother and she kicked me out of the house, I was 17 and became a man when I should’ve just been in a loving family.
IM so sorry to hear that
Yet you are still here brother ☮️
😘👋
Deep respect for Jimmy Somerville, still one of my all time favourites, never to forget!
Even better live 🥹🫶🏼

Impresionante Jimmy!!...con 63 años y canta igual que en sus años jóvenes de los 80's...y sin ayudas electrónicas ni nada....mis respetos 👏👏👏👏❤️

le quedan mejor las canciones que las originales
Those of us who have been through so many hard times will find this song very emotional...and his singing live is Amazing. I wish I could see the video but tears..so much 😢
I cannot agree more. It's true, it's moving and very emotional for me....sooo touching! I admire him singing at his age so very well! Only LOVE!
It doesnt matter how old Jimmy gets, he still has a cracking good voice, wish i grew up in the 80s, i love his voice
He's voice is so soulful...
Definitely one of the gratest songs of 80's. Really unforgettable.
the best decade ever truly blessed to grow up in that era
Oh my goodness...so glad I just found this. I loved the song when it came out and watching Jimmy dance with his whole body and soul along with it. Powerful song.
Jimmy's matured voice with the clear high sweetness and that slight rasp is even better than when he sang it in 1984.
Agree still as fabulous
The same Moves, the same Voice and amazing Memorys flows, Legend.
the falsetto he does in his song is wonderful... A master !!! you´re a genius Jimmy Somerville ! Congratulations
The 80,s… best time of my life!!!!! 😊

Good times music, young and dancing in the clubs to this music! Now that i am alot older and falling apart physically, this music makes me feel 24 again!! Thanks for the memories!! Really miss those days, not so much the coke and booze but the dancing in the clubs!!
I am 67 and love it , 70s 80s was the best!!
Great to see Jimmy still performing. Tears of joy flowed all through this song. So lucky I experienced and enjoyed the 1980's. Brilliant.
It's like where we are now we all should have made an effort to see the 80s groups live.
Dieses Lied ist so traurig und schön, dass es mich zurück versetzt in eine Zeit, in der ich jung, traurig und abseits der zeitgenössischen Musik unterwegs war. Danke Jimmy!!
When an artist spills his heart in one song and it becomes an instant classic. Still sounds just like when it all began. Bravo!
This song Small town boy is truly Amazing the lyrics and Jimmy Sommervilles vocals from a 59 year old Irish Small town boy
Jimmy Somerville (the Bronski Beat singer) is in his 60s by now; but this song still taps the emotions. And his voice still sounds solid.
I forgot about this music.... What a masterpieace.
You and Bronski Beat made our coming out in the early 80s memorable - no, unforgettable. Thank you.
Wow - Jimmy still looks great and sounds amazing... What a classic song - An anthem for so many like me who had to get away from that small town - Inspirational music that gave us all meaning.
Best decade ever for music
A True anthem of struggle for the freedom of or own choices.
Kisses from Brazil 🇧🇷

Never lost it, Jimmy has always had that fantastic voice!!!!
Its hard to not want to go back in time. The 80s were great. Freedom of expression was blooming.
Great live version. Love this. Reminds me of my childhood when this was played on radio. 25 years later it still rocks.
So gooddd !!!
My god this is amazing! Still sounds as fresh as the day it was released !! Go jimmy !!!
