Very sad as this song is one of a generation. Also a gay generation. A sad song about what many of us lived and endured. That's not light and should not be taken lightly. I had to run way, to turn away, to build my life elsewhere. That's not easy. And I would have loved to cry dancing on this remix on my new life, celebrating life and still remembering what and who did hurt me.

I never thought I could enjoy the modern day adoption of one of my sanctuaries. Often it was outrage. But this is otherworldly, it's epic. The original, my first vinyl, listened to hundreds of thousands of times, never wore out, but the feeling got lost over the years. This great piece brings everything back to me. Walking down the hallways of my high school with my red Sony DDII Walkman; the pain I felt walking across the boarding school parking lot with the song blaring out a window in 1984, just after my family left; the longing I felt back then when it came unexpectedly on the radio... So in many ways this song marks the end of an age of innocence. My wife lost a cousin to Aids. It was a long slow death made worse by the Hate Mail and Hate Phone Calls that his family received.

Wow. A nice job on this.. updated remix of this all time classic tune that updates it for 2020s encompassing all that it has become for so many people, in its 35 years of existence. I first heard this on a coach coming back from Holland when it came out and could never have dreamed then of the huge, huge impact Jimmy's song would have.

Threat of nuclear war was huge - life in the 80s was NOT carefree. Thankfully, we had great music, films and TV to distract us.
