That last vehicle just ahead (truck) the driver was DELIBERATELY!!! driving like a TOTAL PLEB! 😡👎. 💩head to be really honest. Not letting the cyclist pass ( knowing he wanted to pass) Quite amusing to see a cyclist not only keep up with motorbikes but pass you lot. 😁😁😁😁😁😁

      honestly if i was the truck driver i would be really sketched out to let someone pass me on a bicycle doing what looked like 80kph on sketchy windy roads. it would have been amazing to see him pass the truck too, but way to dangerous

    • @mortarriding3913
      @mortarriding3913 7 ปีที่แล้ว +45

      If he's really wanted to pass, he would've gone on the left. You want space to maneouvre in that situation. I've passed cars on windy descents on my bike before, and there's no way I'd look to their left unless there was a MASSIVE shoulder.
      It's also worth pointing out that by sitting behind the truck, he's getting something like a 20-30% efficiency increase at fast descent speeds. Chances are, he was just having a look around it, and while that doesn't change the fact that the truck was blocking him, my bet is he was just getting a bit of a rest from chasing motorcycles.

      The reason cyclist don't get the mutual respect they crave is because they always act like they own the road and everyone should get out of their way. They also don't give a shit if they ride 2, 3, 4 wide on a narrow mountain road holding up traffic behind them.

      I was just up on Glendora Mt Road yesterday and as I'm coming around a corner two cyclists were just chilling in the middle of my lane. I damn near had to lay the bike down because of those fucking idiots. My blood was boiling to the point where I had to just leave otherwise I was going to do something really stupid. Fuck all cyclists.

      Nah, you'd be surprised at the speed gains when you're behind anything that's bumping the wind for you. Especially if it's downhill. Even with MTBs on flats, you could go 70+ Kph for 10s of kms no problem.

    • @jameskenyon4769

    • @noiJadisCailleach
      @noiJadisCailleach 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      It's downhill. Just with that factor alone, you could be freewheeling with a roadbike at 50Kph. Just give it a little spin and go 10-15Kph faster. If there is a lump of object hitting the head wind even if it's 15 meters away and not directly in front of you, you could surely feel how much less power you need to push your speed some more. DH just made it 3x easier.

      The crazy thing is, a lot of high-end road bicycles can be more expensive than a new sport bike (e.g. Trek Madone 9.9 = $16K cdn, Honda CBR600RR = $14k cdn)! Add on things like quality pedals, saddle, and something like a crank-based power meter and you can be pushing $18k. Hell, a good set of aero carbon wheels alone are $3-4k (which all high-end bikes come with)! The high-end bike market is getting stupid to be honest. :)

    A lot of people seem to be saying that the truck was blocking the cyclist but honestly I think the cyclist just wanted to stay behind him. If he passed those other cars he'd lose the draft and be unable to maintain that speed as the road leveled out. Plus if he passed that first truck, he'd end up being sandwiched between two vehicles, which is a bad place to be. I can understand wanting to pass the motorbikes to get the better draft but I don't think he wanted to pass the trucks.

    • @MarkoLomovic

      Yeah there were two trucks full of bicycles so I bet they were associated. In any case, passing the truck would not be a good move since there were another tel trucks in front of that one. As a cyclist, I'd rather have my own space behind three trucks than be trapped between two trucks in front and one in back.

    I am not so sure the cyclist was really wanting to pass the truck but was certainly being "towed" by the slip stream. He would be following close but not center because following that close you want to hang at the side to give yourself a quick alternative should the truck suddenly slow. There would be little point in passing the truck as he would be stuck behind 2 more each being a significant obstacle to safely pass. I would feel more comfortable staying back with motorcycles and just easily maintaining by having the large truck break the wind.

    The motorcyclists were being held up by the cars in front (which is why they were going at bicycle speed) and the cyclist overtook them all on the inside. Dangerous and illegal - which I'm sure would have been repeatedly pointed out if it had been the other way round.

    • @Jacco_Prins
      @Jacco_Prins 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Are you really stupid? If a cyclist drive 20 miles per hour on a flat road where other traffic can drive 45 miles and there is a double yellow line it means they can't overtake the cyclist in your eyes and have to stay 30 miles long behind it creating a lot of angry people behind them? Cyclists are slow traffic normally and must stay right and because they use little space they can and must overtake on the right side and won't pass any illegal lines.

    • @markgery644
      @markgery644 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can pass cyclists on a double yellow, you just have to do so when it is safe for both the car and cyclist and you have to give them at least 4 feet of space from the side of your vehicle. That is the law here in PA at least.

    • @csmlyly5736
      @csmlyly5736 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was definitely not the normal or advised way of overtaking traffic, but everyone knew what was going on (excepting Mike - which actually just proves the point). That said, back when bicycles and horses were the only thing on the roads (remember that rhe first paved roads were built for cyclists), these rules weren't established and wouldn't be until the far more dangerous motor car was introduced. Almost all road rules today are implemented with cars in mind regardless of all other traffic.
      Like it or not, being a cyclist is an exercise in bending rules (saying you can't run a red light doesn't do anyone any favors when traffic lights don't change at all for a cyclist anyway, 1 example). This was an example of respectful and safe road use, even though in 99% of circumstances (and I say this as a cyclist), he ought to be admonished and this behavior is never to be encouraged.
