    You've mentioned in this in other videos, but taking off on the peak and staying near the pocket eliminates the need for the "Huntington Hop". The guy at 4:09 is a shoulder hopper, literally. He drops in on the guy in yellow and has to hop because he's so far away from the peak. LOL! Thanks Tim great stuff!

      Thats exactly right. There is a time and place for some flapping but nowhere as much as we see. It is funny how a pure glide in the video catches up with someone flapping .. classic... so thanks for that and we hope you get to join us sometime at www.surfschoolsrilanka.com/ or www.surfschoolanzarote.com

    Finally! Thanks for calling that stuff out! My friend argued that it was "pumping for speed" I couldn't convince him that stalling the board is actually slowing it down. It's almost like it's become some sort of trick to do instead of having a real purpose. Thanks again! Your videos are invaluable great help!

      Hi there Jim and thanks so much for posting. For some reason we never got your comment through to the channel that we could see our end. We always try to reply to all...there are so many like yours that we never got ...so sorry for the super late reply . We hope we see you at www.surfschoolsrilanka.com/ and www.surfschoolanzarote.com/ and happy surfing

      @@SurfInsight No worries at all! Hope everyone there is healthy and safe. I always look forward to your videos. I've been mostly Carve boarding but they're starting to open up beaches for water sports at least in San Diego county. We're living in "interesting" times!

    Hi thanks for another great video !
    Can you make one for dealing with havy drop and go better with bigger wave ?

    • @SurfInsight
      @SurfInsight  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi ..thanks for that and that a good idea and a project for the Autumn perhaps. Heavy drops are often dependent on good vision and that vision leading to a positive attack. we hope you get to join us sometime at www.surfschoolsrilanka.com/ or www.surfschoolanzarote.com

    Serious q - do you glide quicker if you put more weight on the inside rail? e.g. when you see pics of pros in the barrel - sometimes i notice the back (or maybe front foot) is slightly off the stringer and closer to the inside rail on the forehand. Is that why they grab the outside rail in the pig dog stance going backhand in the barrel? thanks

    • @SurfInsight
      @SurfInsight  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for that . Really speed is generated by where you put the board in the wave and weight at best should be central. However there are many good surfers who's foot is off centre on their backhand attack.. but also many who are central. Its kind of vital to have it central on forehand. But rail holding is not done to counter the rail hold. The rail hold particularly on backhand is done to provide stability and engage the rail and not related to the foot position. Hope that helps and we hope you get to join us sometime at www.surfschoolsrilanka.com/ or www.surfschoolanzarote.com

    When I popup early without catching the wave properly, sometimes flapping helps to catch the wave. But I never do flapping while riding.

    • @SurfInsight
      @SurfInsight  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Isuru. Try to avoid any flapping done on take off as its just a sign that either the wave you took off on is the wrong one or your timing was off. Good vision along the wave and the correct paddling with eliminate this.

    That was so funny. But sadly so true. Less flapping more cruising
