What an incredible teacher. I have watched so many videos and i am SO GRATEFUL to have found someone who teaches such valuable knowledge as thoroughly and as concisely as this man does. This is the first one I've stumbled upon on my insatiable thirst for all things ocean and surf. Welp - not sleeping tonight - I must watch and rewatch all!
13:00 "beach breaks can be the scariest waves, like Pto Escondido " ! Thirty years ago, I was just learning, traveling in Mex with a friend who said: I hear there's a great break down in Oaxaca". We managed to ge there, hiked into Zicatela from the highway (no roads - totally empty back then) with our longboards and proceeded to get our asses kicked, slammed into the sand. Oh my god. So scary, I stopped surfing from that day until now. Had no idea we had gone to the worst possible beginner break nor that there was a decent point break just a mile down the beach.

Always learn something from each of your lessons. Rincon, Malibu, Sunset Point and now Doheny. Love those point breaks but learning to like Oceanside beach break too. It's all good isn't it?

Great video coach. I am begginer intermidiate level. I surfed Kuta beach and Kuta reef in October. Any idea for my next trip to find and easy wave to progress my skills?

Great lesson. I especially appreciate the how to be respectful part. I would have paddled straight back, I would have tried for every wave. I struggle with pulling out of a wave once I’m in it and see someone behind me has priority. I’m working on that. Most locals are so cool and understanding and genuinely stoked when beginners catch waves. I’ve only seen a few incidences where someone has been really T’d off. I think they go easier on the girls. Luckily I’m a girl, an old girl at that. Just found your channel, going to subscribe. Do you have a video on surf etiquette? Also need one on dismounts or pulling out. Thank you.

How would you advise my daughter 14 yrs and myself , she is a good swimmer and can do several different strokes .Would it be advisable for her to wear a body float , her 1st time body boarding? .Obviously we will not be going to far out from the beach .Thanks .
Thanks for that. Perranporth can be a great place to learn but also like many beaches can have strong rips so always get advice first before you paddle out. Kind of tricky in winter when there are no guards on duty however . We really dont advise floats for any type of surfing ..its uncomfortable not to be able to submerge and gives a false sense of confidence. Good water ability is always the way and a swim in the sea can helps lots..
Hi .. at 15.59 on the vid we show how a beach break can make an A Frame peak but just dont use the term and of course the same formation works for reefs .. hope that helps

Great lesson. I especially appreciate the how to be respectful part. I would have paddled straight back, I would have tried for every wave. I struggle with pulling out of a wave once I’m in it and see someone behind me has priority. I’m working on that. Most locals are so cool and understanding and genuinely stoked when beginners catch waves. I’ve only seen a few incidences where someone has been really T’d off. I think they go easier on the girls. Luckily I’m a girl, an old girl at that. Just found your channel, going to subscribe. Do you have a video on surf etiquette? Also need one on dismounts or pulling out. Thank you.

How would you advise my daughter 14 yrs and myself , she is a good swimmer and can do several different strokes .Would it be advisable for her to wear a body float , her 1st time body boarding? .Obviously we will not be going to far out from the beach .Thanks .
Ps we are going down to Perranporth, is it easy to learn on this beach ?
Thanks for that. Perranporth can be a great place to learn but also like many beaches can have strong rips so always get advice first before you paddle out. Kind of tricky in winter when there are no guards on duty however . We really dont advise floats for any type of surfing ..its uncomfortable not to be able to submerge and gives a false sense of confidence. Good water ability is always the way and a swim in the sea can helps lots..

Hi .. at 15.59 on the vid we show how a beach break can make an A Frame peak but just dont use the term and of course the same formation works for reefs .. hope that helps
