    DSG = Direktschaltgetriebe :-P
    Direkt = direct ; schalt = shift ; getriebe = gearbox
    So luckily in this case, the german and the english terms begin with the same letters.

    San Diego Baby!!
    You should put on an informal meet-n-greet. Pick a bar/eatery and tweet it out.
    Plenty of places in PB, from college casual to nice (the duck dive). Always have stone brewery, Gordon biersch, pizza port, Karl Strauss, the spot in la jolla...the list is long San Diego wide.
    If no one shows, hey, you need to eat anyway, right. ;-)
    Love the shows!

    3:16 WRONG! Haldex V in Golf R can send even 100% of power to the rear wheels! It's also an active system so it doesn't need to detect any slippage.

  • @TheVigilantStewards
    @TheVigilantStewards 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    In race mode, does it adjust for more power distribution to the rear wheels? Saw a graph but I wasn't sure if that was an aftermarket Haldex upgrade or if it was built in... Would make a lot of sense for VW to have race mode get more even distribution but they don't ever talk about it

    First! There is one question I got, what kind of awd system it uses? Personally I love VW but one thing I hate in America is that they price their cars as premium. I get that they are premium in other markets, but after looking at the Passat here in the US and comparing it to the one offered in my country, the one in the US looks like a car from the early 2000's. I believe that's why their sales in the US are low, highly priced and tamed down cars.

    • @SlipknotMaggot0526
      @SlipknotMaggot0526 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Passat is probably different because the one's in the U.S. are made in Chattanooga Tennessee.

    • @chrisbest1000
      @chrisbest1000 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      The awd system uses the exact same system as audi use, Haldex is the name.

    • @juancargts
      @juancargts 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      chrisbest1000 thanks, I was asking because for the awd Amarok they use a torsen system

    • @sic22l
      @sic22l 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It uses the newest Haldex 5. It's an active system which means it doesn't require slippage to send power to the rear wheels. More - up to 100% of power can be send to the rear.
      Yes, US Passat is completely different (and dumbed down) car than European one, they did it to keep lower price. EU Passat would be significantly more expensive, base price would be closer to $30k, not $21,340.

  • @altern8ive
    @altern8ive 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    9:35 - has all the "spaciousness" and "versatility" of the golf and gti. that's not entirely true as the Haldex reduces trunk space by 37 litres.

    For some strange reason VW detunes the Golf R for Australia, down to 276hp because they say we're a hot country. Yet the R will be sold in the US in places like Texas, which gets pretty damn hot. Wake up VW, Australia isn't close to Mercury!

    • @jamalalkaabi8
      @jamalalkaabi8 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      damn thats unlucky, the GCC spec ( Middle East ) gets 286 detuned and for the same reason HEAT -.-

    It's interesting that he lists the base price with the DSG. Does that mean that the manual costs more?

    • @getfoul
      @getfoul 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 2015 Golf R doesn't come with a manual in America. That means the price for the manual hasn't been announced yet. If European prices are anything to compare to, the USA Golf R in 2016 with a manual should be 35,000 +/- $300. Around $1500 less than the DSG is where I'm expecting it to fall.

    I wish he asked about the differences between the Euro spec and the US spec. I know the side mirrors are different colors (why?), but what about the LED tail lights? If we don't get them this year, what about next? Would it be here in time when the 6sp MT comes out? What about the 8" Discovery Pro head unit? Will we get that in 2016 as well?

    • @sic22l
      @sic22l 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      You won't get many features because US Golf has simplified electrical system that doesn't support some functrions from EU Golf.

    • @FlavorOTM

      sic22l We're always shit out of luck when it cones to cars. We always get like less power and looks. Like 2003 350z had 10 more hp in Japan. 15 WRX has 300 now in Japan so its an STI.

    • @TechieZeddie
      @TechieZeddie 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Would have been nice if he asked. That way someone representing VW said it.

    • @sic22l
      @sic22l 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jon Frageau HP difference isn't so bad, engine's ECU need to be reprogrammed to make cars work properly in extreme conditions like high temperature (Death Valley), high altitude (Colorado) or humidity (Florida). They also need to work on low octane fuel (EUs Eurosuper 95 is an equivalent of premium gas in the US). Second thing is the cost - Americans aren't ready to pay full price for imported cars that's why most of them is dumbed down for US market (except premium brands because they know they can charge more).

    The San Diego Tourist Department must really hate TFL. Every video TFL shoot in San Diego makes the town look like an absolute shit tip. Surely, to God, there must be some nice areas ?

    • @perry8867
      @perry8867 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      But seriously, there are some parts of San Diego that are just crap. National City, some of the inland-southern parts are just ugly, like Tijuana kind of ugly, even much of downtown San Diego is ugly, with high unemployment, relatively high crime, homelessness. With that said, MOST of San Diego county is very, very nice....very expensive, but very nice.

    • @MrKeyboardCommando
      @MrKeyboardCommando 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** So, it's nice as long as you can afford to live out of town. That's true of a lot of places. It's a pity I can't afford to live out of town.

    This or Honda Civic for a first car?

    • @kevinalan1335
      @kevinalan1335 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I personally would recommend the Honda as a first car. Both cars are mechanically sound but unforeseen issues do and will arise. Sadly the more polished Golf is also the more temperamental of the two. They may be made in Mexico now but VW still attaches a premium price to their components because the Audi engineering behind it. Once the warranty dries up you will thank yourself. Honda has really intuitive shifts and the SI is rev happy with somewhere around 200hp so you likely wont miss any thrills. Both cars lack soul if you ask me but for different reasons. The Honda is mass produced standardized equipment and the Golf suffers from too much German methodical reasoning.

    Compare this to the STI and EVO as much as yall want in terms of performance but no car looks as mature to own.An EVO and STI is and always will be an immature car.No mature adult would drive an evo or sti as a daily driver lol

    • @goatmonkey2112
      @goatmonkey2112 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      The VW is maybe *more* mature. Most people would just assume it's a GTI though, which is still kind of targeted toward younger buyers. If you're concerned about what people think, the Audi S3 would be the way to go.

    • @ToxopIasmosis
      @ToxopIasmosis 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yea, the MATURE ones buy a compact car that cant even sit 4 people when a car seat is hooked up in the back. You'll probably say whoever buys this golf drives it as the second car in the family, but if Golf can be the second car of the family why cant STI or EVO?
