I was at an estate sale and picked up a dusty old tin, opened it up and it was absolutely stuffed full of $ bills of all sizes. I quickly put the lid back on and walked around listening to the people who were the sellers. After listening to them for a while I decided they were good people and were the children of the man who had died, so I waited till three of them were together and walked over and just opened up the lid under their noses. It was fun watching their reactions and how happy they were that I had shown it to them. 😊 They gave me a great price on a really nice Lazy Boy and we all came out ahead.
That’s a really cool story! (I almost don’t believe it!)

The biggest treasure is your own treasure lol. I was sad, broke and I mean broke. I was visiting my mom and was going through some old teen stuff in my old room. I came upon a bunch of CDs and then it hit me. I used to love hiding stuff in small things. I started looking inside the CDs cases and between each front label. I found a $100 I had stashed when I was a teen working. It was my first pay check. I remember saying “ I need this one day and it’s going to surprise me and make me happy.

My dad was in the Navy and visited Japan shortly after WWII. He bought Mom 2 matching hammered brass vases covered with burgundy glass. They sat on hand carved wooden stands. In the early '60s she dropped one and cracked the glass. She was going to throw both of them away but I convinced her to give the unbroken one to me. Years later a friend who knows a lot about Asian art offered me $500 for it but I kept it. It's 2020 and I still have it. I have no idea what its value is today. Maybe I should find out!

I found a book with my dad's signature in it from when he was a kid at a used book store. I moved to San Dimas ca from Downey ca after growing up most of my childhood in Downey. The book store was in San Dimas! And my dad grew up on an Indian reservation in Porterville ca. The book was one of the first prints of Huckleberry Flinn 😀

Similar story, though the book did not travel quite as far. When they were kids and into their teenage years, my spouses father would give his two son's used books which he would sign and write a sentiment on the cover page, he would pick up books at yard sales and/or used bookstores. When they were teenagers, he gifted them the same book for Christmas. Years later and now in adulthood, at a yard sale we hosted, one of the twin gifted books was in a pile and it was purchased. About a year later, their father found the book again at a used bookstore and purchased it ... and regifted it the following Christmas. This is in a city of over 1 million residents, so it was a rather unique "rediscovery".

@@maxali5320 actually that us possible..my mom in law used to work in Goodwill and they cant buy stuff from.the store where they are working. So he would asked my husband to buy it for her. And they cant keep stuff. I find stuff in thrift store that I wonder why staff dont take or buy them for themselves. Its not allowed.

This one time me and my family went to goodwill and my Nana was looking for clothes and picked up a jacket and we bought it when we got home we found $600 dollars in the pocket of the jacket
I found a Japanese vase in a charity shop for €1.00. A year later I found out it was worth €650.00. I checked out the stamp on the bottom of it just for fun.
I was in Goodwill and bought a speaker for 5 dollars but when I got home I looked it up and it was worth 130 dollars
My dad found a prop car about a foot in size that was actually used in one of Michael Jackson's videos in the '80s! He found it at a garage sale and bought it for $5! He turned around and sold it for $3000 on eBay a few years later....probably was worth far more than that!

Most thrift stores use to internet to price items! They get the stuff for free and want to charge you top dollar.I have been buying from thrift stores before the internet.

My dad found our family cookbook 15 years later at a garage sale... he and my mom designed and drew everything in the book and it was all in calligraphy... and tons of our family wrote their recipes themselves

I found a REL Strata iii subwoofer at my local thrift store for $13 (retailed for $1,300 new but resells easily for $400), works great with my audio setup. Thats probably the best I found so far.

Wow! So fun to view. I found an old prison ring for .25 and sold it for $125. I also found an old pencil print of a girl in a graduation gown looking up at a stern faced professor that I bought for $3.00 at a flea market and I found out it was the mock-up for a specific colleges yearbook that is a design which is used for all their yearbooks. It was 30+ years old. After speaking with the college I couldn’t get them to move much on the piece but they bought it for $75.00.
People clear out houses when people die and do a quick sale on the contents or donate to a charity shop or thrift store , just to get rid of the stuff. They never check if it has value.
I donated a coat in Billings Montana, three years later I found the same coat in Lunenburg Nova Scotia. I had changed the buttons so it was def the same damn coat! There was lots of stuff in the store from Montana and Wyoming so it was legit.

I was away on work in a small English country town and had the morning off so I went thrift shopping and found a pair of YSL Tribtoo pumps. I assumed they were fakes but I picked them up and they felt like beautiful quality. They’d clearly never been worn, the stitching was immaculate and the insoles flawless. AND my size! I took them to the lady at the desk and asked her how much and she said “oh those ugly things, who could possibly walk in those... I don’t know dear, how much money do you have on you - it’s cash only”. I said “ahh shoot, I usually use card, I only have about £8.00 on me.” She said “that’s fine. I’m happy to have them gone.” I then assumed maybe they were replicas but just REALLY good copies. A few weeks later I took them to get them authenticated. Turns out they are real! And they retail for £800! Best find I’ve found so far!

I was a travelling manager for a charity and one of the volunteers opened a book that was donated to find old English notes stuffed in the pages!
I love estate sales..... I had bought a couple of purses in new condition one with original tags. So on my way home I start transferring my old to the new and found 5 $20’s....total $100, I was stoked! I paid $1 for each bag.

Bought a painting at work for $1.00. Showed it to my mom who freaked out. The man who painted it was a local man. He didn't paint that many paintings. After he died the value went up for his paintings. At a auction at a local womans sale of her home and belongings after she died they had one of his paintings. It sold for about $3000.00 So my $1.00 investment doesn't look to bad now.

I'm surprised that you did NOT include the story of the guy who found the original hand drawn maps of the new world in a thrift store cellar and became a millionaire by having them printed onto posters, post cards, greeting cards, etc. He was on Oprah in the 80's, I think. Cool story.
Tip: If you live in LA, go to t rich people areas and thrift there. I once found an unused Gucci belt there, it wasn’t my size but it was perfect gift to my mom! :)
