Man Tac I subbed to you when I was younger 26 now and going through your old videos with your humor has kept my mind off all this Covid-19 crazy bullshit going on I hope your ok man
Dude,I just have to tell you that you are my favorite You Tube reviewer...your commentaries are not only educational but extremely entertaining. Thanks for all of your efforts and keep up the awesome work!!
Guy your channel is quickly evolving into my fave knife testing and related 'issues'. Chris is still gonna be up there but he is all business, while you I find to be entartainingly 'crazy'! Thanks for awesome content.
I like the Bushman as a basic and inexpensive bush knife, but I did do a couple of mods. I wrapped the handle with sports tape for more grip, and I used a hand grinder to produce a deep choil at the back end of the edge to provide just a bit more protection from the hand sliding onto the blade. I also blunted the very back of the edge where it meets the choil.
Compared to all the actual spear heads and spears from Schrade, Camillus and United Cutlery's M48 line, the Cold Steel Bushman is the most practical and reasonable. I'd like to have one of the Schrade spears with the synthetic shaft, ready to rock, but they run into $60 and more. Even with the additional costs of a shaft, as you demonstrated it's a durable knife that transforms into a spear or even a short machete in seconds.
Dude, my suggestion to prevent your hand from slipping while stabbing is to put on a coating on the handle. I actually used a special rubber that's also used on tennis racks for it. recently skinned a deer and it did great with it
I really would love to see how you would modify your knife. I have one myself and I have modified several things on the knife. I really want to see what you come up with.
@Tactical I love the fact you do reviews on more budget friendly blades and you are not a knife snob. Long live Schrade, Cold Steel, Condor, & Spyderco!
You have the old sheath version. The new one is their plastic sheaths and has a fire steel with it. Would suggest filing the spine a little first because it's rounded somewhat. Does anyone know why a lot of cold steel's outdoor knives come with a slightly rounded spine?
SK-5 equals 1080 high carbon steel, and with this nice spring temper, it's hard to beat. It wont hold an edge forever because it isn't to hard (like 55 rockwell on the bushman) but it's really easy to resharpen.
Great knife i agree. I'd give it an 8 though since it so versatile. Knife + Spear and great quality. Try a short wood handle extension for stabbing motions. Makes it a short spear doing so, but much safer when stabbing. You ever going to try out the CS Norse Hawk ??
This is a great way of carrying a spear without actually carrying a spear and getting arrested. Though out history spears have always been the go-to weapon for soldiers and common folk alike, the simple fact is if you have more reach then your enemy you win the fight.
great test tac, I got one of these in the Bowie blade a few days ago. you're right that handle does suck for most knife chores, but it makes it particularly well-suited to throwing and use as a spear. and that is why I bought it, I think I need a spear next to my lazy boy LOL keep the videos coming Playboy!
oh man getting one of these now would be like getting a big wheel when I was 6! I would get in so much trouble having fun with that thing. Hitting the tree with the spear sideways made me cringe but it took it. I am amazed
For the handle, I'd highly recommend some grip tape (hockey tape works) or some duct tape if you're in a pinch. Makes a world of difference, it's not Uber comfortable but it'll help with not having it slip out of your hand
7:00 now i know what the purpose of its hollow handle...:-), in my country, such spear/stick is used to harvest ripe mangoes, durians, etc.. Nice vid, anyhow
Tac my brother great review I have a mini bushman that has been discontinued it's been awesome. love that you review a wide variety of gear rock on playboy ahh yeah
Good video man. It's tough as nails, can do almost anything you need a knife to do, plus a good few you hadn't thought of asking a knife to do, and it's only $20. If the SHTF this is a good option.
The edge rolled on mine the first time I ever batoned with it. The spine doesn't throw sparks on a fero rod very well either. Everybody acts like this is such a good budget survival knife, but I don't see it.
I love how people get so surprised how well the cold steel budget tools perform. Then try to something harder to do to make it fail....then...nope it's perfect.
Best knife by miles especially for the price and now in a.bowie configuration with a securex sheath you need to watch the cold steel bushman video by cold steel fantastic video
This thing has a much better sheath now. I'm thinking about trying to mate one up with one of CS walking sticks. It might fit on the end of a Walkabout, or an Escrima - with a little persuasion. That would make a nice little short spear.
An Indian Blacksmith in the Andamans ( India) , made for me the exact same knife out of a truck spring , 10 years ago . It also can be used as a spear head . Once finished , the blacksmith called it "Pig Knife".. The only bad thing , it weights a tonne !!
+tactical could you please do a torture test on the m48 ops tactical machete please it just got released and there is no videos on it plus u do the best tests on blades
I have the Bowie version. Simple but effective. they take an amazing amount of abuse. main downfall is not a good chopper. but hey, neither are Mora's and I love them too. Thanks for posting Tac.
Hey, i like it when you abuse the knife. But if you want throw easily or put stress on the tip, then you could learn no spin. I think thats easier anyway.
TAC another youtuber by the name of Simons discoveries has two solid videos on this knife.i think after watching them you'll like this knife a little more.just thought I'd mention it.
Really hated the look of this blade at first. After seeing so many good reviews, I now have three. Excellent piece of steel. The last knife you'll ever need, but, let's be honest, we all love pretty blades. This isn't that, but you can use it in situations where you'd worry about your $300 knife. Get it, you won't regret it, especially as it costs around $25. Definitely one for your B.O.B.
What kind of handle was that? A shovel handle? This looks badass, especially for the price. Hope you are doing well brother, I know the virus has hit NY hard.
With you 100%. Great spear action. Perfect backup/survival bag knife. Check out the new sheath for this knife, much better. Oh, that aint no drop point, lol. They make two styles.
Hilarious as always!!!😁 What's your take on the CS Shanghai Shadow? Should make for a better spearhead than the Bushman (at least the SK5-version, mine's the 1095 one).
I give this a full hard, almost...but no blow. I was semi @ 3:30 chopping into the block then went hard at the knotty wood @ 4:30 but went soft when it was thrown @ 5:48 but then came back full hard @7:02 throwing the spear but didn't last long enough to get me there. You tease Tac.
respect for leaving in the failed knife throws, would have been easy to edit them out but kept you it real.
Man Tac I subbed to you when I was younger 26 now and going through your old videos with your humor has kept my mind off all this Covid-19 crazy bullshit going on I hope your ok man
Hard times indeed man, stay strong, prepare for the worst, hope for the best ! :).
Dude,I just have to tell you that you are my favorite You Tube reviewer...your commentaries are not only educational but extremely entertaining. Thanks for all of your efforts and keep up the awesome work!!
Yep, funny as crap and it seems to come natural! Awesome
had one of these since 98 when they first came out survived all outdoor trips my favorite survival blade.
Guy your channel is quickly evolving into my fave knife testing and related 'issues'. Chris is still gonna be up there but he is all business, while you I find to be entartainingly 'crazy'! Thanks for awesome content.
+runkurgan glad you found me
Still one of my favorite knives out there.
Easy to buy many carry in your pack and belt. Inexpensive and lots of utility.
You can use it not only as a spear but as a machete too if you put a shorter wood handle.Looks like the perfect back up blade
For batoning and spear action, that knife is awesome. Thanx for the vid Brother Tac!
Very nice stuff, was thinking about buying for a little while now, just the spear alone seems completely worth it. Thanks !
Quickly you are becoming my favorite reviewer of knives brother! Unbiased and reliable reviews! Keep up the great work TAC! Dr Dave
I have owned a bushman for 20 years now and it is still as good as the day I bought it. Love that knife. I have the original leather sheath
I'm really late to the party, my Bowie version arrives tomorrow
Ordered one today just from your review I've been on the fence about getting one but seeing this made my mind up thanks a lot!! Awwwweee yeeeeaaaa!
Cool Video 👍
Thank U for the Info and the field Test 👍
i just had a sick idea... put big feather fletchings on the end on the spear!
-would to very cool to see how it flys by the hand :)
I loved the Bushman and the Mini Bushman for kitchen duty.
I like the Bushman as a basic and inexpensive bush knife, but I did do a couple of mods. I wrapped the handle with sports tape for more grip, and I used a hand grinder to produce a deep choil at the back end of the edge to provide just a bit more protection from the hand sliding onto the blade. the cold steel bowie blade bushman looks pretty sick as well
I love my Cold Steel Bowie Machete! I use it a lot when I go metal detecting.(Dirt Fishing)!!!
me 2,
i keep mine in my BOB too, just for the distance factor. Held up fine for last few years and cant beat the price.
That thing has been on my list for a long time. I just need to order the damn thing.
Bro, you're so tacticool!
the only hollow handle knife I would buy
A number 8 opinels fits in the handle perfectly, my complete light weight bushcraft cutting kit

As always Tac, you're a legend sir! :D
I am glad I joined his channel, tac you are aswome!
i put skateboard grip tape on mine, liked it so much i bought another to keep in spear form...I love these things...
You have the old sheath version. The new one is their plastic sheaths and has a fire steel with it. Would suggest filing the spine a little first because it's rounded somewhat. Does anyone know why a lot of cold steel's outdoor knives come with a slightly rounded spine?

Perfect, just what I wanted to know. Thank you!
OK the downward chop I totally expected it to just bounce off and as a spear it also blew my mind. As a knife no in my bug out bag hells yeah!
Hey, bro! I realy like your channel and i say : keep on! God bless you! A hug.
Brother, you are hell on timber. LOL Seriously though, you are entertaining as all get out, keep up the good work!
+Rafael Lastra glad your here man
Do a face reaveal
Yep just bought one but i wonder how well its going to hold up to weather as in how badly is it going to rust ?
love your videos. Which pole weapon would you use against a charging pitbull?
oh man getting one of these now would be like getting a big wheel when I was 6! I would get in so much trouble having fun with that thing. Hitting the tree with the spear sideways made me cringe but it took it. I am amazed
y como le quitas el cuchillo al cabo..madera?
The Boar Spear, Viking Spear can be used as short swords when off the handles...
For the handle, I'd highly recommend some grip tape (hockey tape works) or some duct tape if you're in a pinch. Makes a world of difference, it's not Uber comfortable but it'll help with not having it slip out of your hand
you should test the assegai spear also from cold steel
+Tonar Silverwolf I would luv to
it's not bad. i have it
Another great video Tactical!
7:00 now i know what the purpose of its hollow handle...:-), in my country, such spear/stick is used to harvest ripe mangoes, durians, etc.. Nice vid, anyhow

I was like "cool, but even with something around it the handle still sucks" then you said it was around $20 and now I want one, maybe even two.
another great video Tac
I like Cold Steel, you get the very best boom for yer buck from those guys,
Did you do the spear yourself? What's the dimension on the knife where you put the wood?
The edge rolled on mine the first time I ever batoned with it. The spine doesn't throw sparks on a fero rod very well either. Everybody acts like this is such a good budget survival knife, but I don't see it.
The SK5 is a pretty good steel, it's like a 1080, so it should be pretty decent.
I love how people get so surprised how well the cold steel budget tools perform. Then try to something harder to do to make it fail....then...nope it's perfect.
THATS THA WAY TO TEST A BLADE
Best knife by miles especially for the price and now in a.bowie configuration with a securex sheath you need to watch the cold steel bushman video by cold steel fantastic video
this brother is cool and funny I really dig his videos
This thing has a much better sheath now. I'm thinking about trying to mate one up with one of CS walking sticks. It might fit on the end of a Walkabout, or an Escrima - with a little persuasion. That would make a nice little short spear.
Freaking cool brother TaC! Just done something similar with the Condor Jungle Bowie 2!!
An Indian Blacksmith in the Andamans ( India) , made for me the exact same knife out of a truck spring , 10 years ago .
It also can be used as a spear head . Once finished , the blacksmith called it "Pig Knife"..
The only bad thing , it weights a tonne !!
fun vid. since you like cs and hawks try the pipehawk. what do you think of chris tanners new knife. looks freakin sweet to me.
+tactical could you please do a torture test on the m48 ops tactical machete please it just got released and there is no videos on it plus u do the best tests on blades
Definitely a good blade for the pack, i think id keep it primarily as a spear. Thanks for the review, my son and i both like your channel
+Fredrick Mann your awesome
Good Question tact how well is it for cutting (spear) in case you need to deal with the occasional walker. :)
Joe Johnson pretty well
try the coldsteel sparten best folder i have
Not a bad blade really , good review !
I have the Bowie version. Simple but effective. they take an amazing amount of abuse. main downfall is not a good chopper. but hey, neither are Mora's and I love them too.
Thanks for posting Tac.
+Wilderness Warriors I have both :)
i wish CS would bring back the Mini-Bushman.

I think Cold Steel is my favorite brand. They make alot of diffrent and COOL Knifes and swords :D
Nice blade, I'm definitely getting this one
Great video, always been wanting one of those knives, cheers
+SOUTHERN CROSS SURVIVAL I have this with the kydex sheath + fire steel....I love it!!!
+highonimmi It's not kydex... but it's in improvement! 👍
@Tactical : What size wood shaft/handle is that? It looks wider than the standard 15/16..?
Can you please review a Mission MPK 12Ti? Thanks!
Very cool one Mr Tac, i like possibility to use it as a spear to, thanks for sharing, Taro
+Taromovies Swiss Bushcraft good to hear from ya brother :)
+Tactical Ever look at the Cold steel Outdoorsman lite ? :D
lmao holy shit the second time you threw it as a spear, I thought the blade went all the way in hahaha
I don't suggest batoning if you can help it
Tactical man can you review the cold steel 2 handed great sword?
What kind of holster is that brother?
Makes a hell of an emergency machete with a short handle in the end of it.
Great!!! As a spear, mainly! But great!
CS could do some texturing on the handle. Great vid tac !
I like your video.
Hey, i like it when you abuse the knife.
But if you want throw easily or put stress on the tip, then you could learn no spin.
I think thats easier anyway.

hey tac could you test leathermans?? just curious cause I didn't see any on your channel. love your channel man 😀
Thanks for the video you should do more Spears
Hilarious as always!!!😁 What's your take on the CS Shanghai Shadow? Should make for a better spearhead than the Bushman (at least the SK5-version, mine's the 1095 one).
Haha, I throw just about that good lol. Nice TAC, good video
I got a newer one and it shaves my arm with ease. Great knife for $20!
In France, it s a great knife for 40 euros! Wtf?
I love mine.. but you're right tac. u gotta modify that handle
Ok, you just convinced me to get one
Great review
I give this a full hard, almost...but no blow. I was semi @ 3:30 chopping into the block then went hard at the knotty wood @ 4:30 but went soft when it was thrown @ 5:48 but then came back full hard @7:02 throwing the spear but didn't last long enough to get me there. You tease Tac.
