      I'm right there with you!!!
Signs and The Village were really my first foray into the horror genre as a whole! I remember losing sleep over Signs and how invigorated the feeling made me.
I definitely understand how disheartening it can be to see people shitting on Shyamalan movies. The recent works might not've been winners but his early work shaped me into the person I am today and was at the core of a lot of friendships I have.
I'm new to Chris' channel but his love for a movie that I consider a certified classic just fills my heart so much!
      You are, indeed, unalone!

To this day people still make fun of Signs because they didn't pay attention. I can't remember how many times the movie made it clear that these were somekind of demons susceptible to **holy** water, but people still go "hurrdurr aliens wouldn't be hurt by regular water!"

How can anyone make fun of such a brilliant movie?? Signs is a masterpiece.
I've come to the conclusion that most people who watch movies are just dumb. It's the same reason people don't love the dark knight rises despite it being a masterpiece and the perfect end to a trilogy. People just aren't intelligent enough to comprehend things

@@Beecher_Arts I can understand being made fun of for liking Lady in the Water (which I really do) but not Signs. It was one of the first movies I saw him talking about on this channel so many years ago, and now I’m a much bigger fan of the art form than I ever thought I would be. I think the inspiration he drew from Signs is so earnest and palpable through his videos that it even inspires other people. Signs is literally the one movie that scarred me the most as a kid. It wasn't Jason, Freddy, Halloween, Chucky, etc.
I remember I was 14, still a young kid and watching it with all my neighbor friends at their house. We were all between 12-15 year olds.
The thing wih this movie is that it felt real, cause aliens could actually exist. After watching all those alien scenes on Signs, as soon as I arrived at my house late at night, I remember closing all the windows of my bedroom, afraid the tall alien would pop up at any time. And from that day on, I always slept with all my windows closed until I was like 19-20. That's how much the aliens traumatized me.
Signs might not be the best horror movie ever, but it sure left a mark on me. It's still a good horror movie.

Serox, same. I think I was 9 when this came out? I don't remember a lot of movies scaring me for a long time, but that motherfucking birthday scene on the news in Signs....and then they paused it on that clip of it emerging from the crops......hellllll noooooo! I still find that part creepy because the design holds up pretty well (until the last fight scene, obvs) and it still triggers that little kid in me hahahah. I also lived in a town outside of Phoenix that was ALL farmland at the time. Corn crop fields EVERYWHERE! After Signs came out, it was a summer game to run into the crops and whoever stayed in there the longest won. I always lost 🤣

With no desire to disparage the rest of your channel, Chris (which I think is great), this is one of the coolest and most emotional videos you've ever made. Congratulations. Admirers of Shyamalan's work now have a great bonus document from one of his best films. Thank you!

Still to this day, SIGNS remains my favorite movie theater experience ever. I watch it annually, and like you, it made me want to tell original stories. I didn't go the film route; instead, I made graphic novels.
This was a ton of fun, and I can't wait to see your movie!

I grew up not too far from here (about 20 minutes away) and it looked exactly the same as this where I lived so as a kid after seeing Signs in 2002, walking around at night past cornfields and farmhouses was terrifying. Signs is such a fantastic film. Great video Chris!

Signs was underrated imo. It gets way too much hate because people have beef with M. Night Shyamalan for whatever reason. I might watch it again tonight.

It’s so weird seeing my hometown in one of your videos and watching you explore a bunch of the places that I grew up around.
The pizza place is actually still open, they just moved maybe 4-5 blocks down the street.
Awesome video; if you’re ever back in Newtown, I’d absolutely like to buy you a drink 😂

This was soooo good. I have a soft spot for Signs. It's a movie that defies conventions. It goes backwards. The movies horizen-metaphorically of course-gets smaller and smaller. While the convention is that things get bigger. And I love a director that keeps his camera bloody still. More mini documentaries like this would be a welcome treasure.

Wow, great video. I LOVE "Signs". It gets a bad rep for its ending, but what a great movie it is. I leave to the great Roger Ebert to say it all: "M. Night Shyamalan's "Signs" is the work of a born filmmaker, able to summon apprehension out of thin air. When it is over, we think not how little has been decided, but how much has been experienced. Here is a movie in which the plot is the rhythm section, not the melody. A movie that stays free of labored explanations and a forced climax, and is about fear in the wind, in the trees, in a dog's bark, in a little girl's reluctance to drink the water. In signs."
