It seems weird that Chris acknowledges that this is a mockumentary, but continues to get angry about the parts that are clearly the mockumentary parts. @@c28baby Or any actor who really gets into the zone. I worked on a set as a background extra for a movie with Denzel Washington. The AD gave us that exact instruction, don’t get in Denzel’s eye lines.
That part isn’t even really a joke. There ARE a lot of actors who actually demand that on film sets. Not even just during takes... the entire time the actor is on set, you’re not allowed to look them in the eyes. It’s one of the most fucked up, yet strangely understandable things about the movie industry. Some actors are just that sensitive about their process and don’t want to be taken out of character by having to acknowledge that there’s a bunch of human beings around them that wouldn’t be there in the story, so they don’t want to have someone look them in the eyes and connect with their humanity in a way that’s hard to ignore. It’s easier to pretend nobody is there if you never actually “see” them. Of course, the other way to look at it is that a lot of Hollywood stars are pampered, elitist, entitled brats who get a sense of satisfaction from feeling “above” the plebs working on set and would never condescend to recognize their humanity by giving them the privilege of looking a God among insects in the eye. 🤷♂️ Maybe somewhere in between.

I also agree, but I can't stand to watch it now because I have a mentally disabled son. It threw the whole story into a totally different light for me. Hi Chris. I worked on Glass for M. Night. I was just a stand-in but after I watched your vid I thought you might like to know M Night was always very kind to me and several times took cast and crew out for dinner and drinks. He was so cool and personable. All crew and cast knew 100 percent he was in charge and you do what he says, however, he never abused that always a very cool guy.
I’m ironically glad to see YOU going back to making more personal projects after last year. Still always love this channel but you feel more alive recently.
I watched this when it originally aired, right before I was going to see The Village. I thought it was so stupid I went to see Harold and Kumar instead. I haven't watched an M. Night movie since. Whenever I hear his name, this is the first thing that pops into my head. It ruined his movies for me.
I think this would’ve been better if the director wasn’t an established, Oscar-nominated filmmaker. I think it would’ve been better if it was payed actors playing really stupid filmmakers. That way, the whole “treating normal things like they were this big mystery” would’ve worked better and would’ve been WAY funnier.
Chris, I would love to see you interview MNS in a series of half hour episodes. After all the shit he has to face it would be nice to see a real fan asks all the questions we all want to know.
Damn, I'd love to see a Spielberg mockumentary where he's secretly capturing dinosaurs with a time machine, that would legitimately be great if done well.
I’d like to see a film of someone who made a film that was such a huge success but the director is unable to live up to the standards he set with his first film and we see his struggle to find joy with his art and even himself. Just an idea

Hey Chris, it's not a new movie, but the korean horror film "The Wailing" blew me away, and I'd love to hear your take on it.
I’ve wanted him to review this for so long omg
That movie absolutely floored me! One of those movies that just completely shocked me
I’m surprised he never reviewed it
This was SUCH a unique film. I really loved the experience, I haven’t seen anything like it before or since
It seems weird that Chris acknowledges that this is a mockumentary, but continues to get angry about the parts that are clearly the mockumentary parts. It's like he's contradicting himself, making it look like he's mocking the mockumentary. I think Chris just went full meta on us and nobody noticed.
Mock docs have to be self aware not obviously hitting my over the head with stupid shit.
Yea, that was a weird review.
Also, what's with the "inflUence", isn't it supposed to be "Influence" with a stressed I ?
I think the problem is that it takes itself too seriously.
It's that is so, so self indulgent, so hokey, and is clearly fella†ing itself.
Just from the premise this is a response from that fake documentary about the myth of the Blair Witch to promote the Blair Witch Project....And btw, by watching Depp here I realised the Secret Window is a very very very Shyamalan-ish movie. Maybe he could adapt some of King's material sometime
M Night: “But these sound systems go to 11.”
Nice mate 😂😂😂
''My goal in this channel is to respect filmakers'' and this is why Chris is a hundred levels above every other youtube movie reviewer who just likes bashing the movie of the week for likes.
The secret of M. Night felt like the movie called The Visit.
Makes sense 👍
Seeing Secret Window Johnny Depp from the early 2000s just made me happy 🥰
"please don't get into any of the performer's eye-lines, cuz that would be a disaster" 🤣
OHHHH! GOOO FOR YOU!!
Only if it’s Christian Bale.
Maybe somewhere in between.
Lmaaaooooo
I felt like this video was starting to lean towards a "Hilariocity" review.
I now know where Shane Dawson got his inspiration to make his documentaries.
But have you ever seen the Estonian film Klasse?
Are u implying 'he's... _connected'?_
Shane left the chat because he's an empath with no balls.
I went to a set of Walker TX. Ranger.. I literally had a PA come over and instruct me "do not approach chuck unless he decides to come to you and don't talk to the crew".. well I DID and think I was walking up to chuck at the snacks table and it ended up being Terry Norris! Such a nice guy! Never got to meet chuck but did get to see him shoot scenes and got do awesome stunts!!!
Unfortunately the first M Night movie I ever watched was The Last Airbender..
For me it was Signs but I was very little and was scary for me
Ooof
@@viciousbane569 for me it was Signs too.
Mine was The Happening
@@jimbobaggins27 sad thing is I was too young to know how terrible it was when I saw it, I came out like “well i mean it wasn’t good but it wasn’t bad either”
(For reference I believe that same year transformers revenge of the fallen came out and I thought that movie was the coolest shit ever) before my brain kicked in and I realized how shitty it was 🤦🏼♂️
I actually love when Chris talks about strange movies and projects that I never heard about. It`s interesting
White kids in hoodies.😐 Oh no no now that's scary
I actually think the village is a masterpiece.
Same. Also lady in the water but people hate that one.
I also agree, but I can't stand to watch it now because I have a mentally disabled son. It threw the whole story into a totally different light for me.
Lady in the Water is beautifully written and acted. I think it fell short because He was trying to say more than the movie could really carry. It was no where near as bad a film as the critics tried to say it was. It has become my 9 year old daughter's favorite movie.
Johnny Depp is wearing a costume from Secret Window while he's in this...lmao
I think he just showed up on set for SW and was just donning dem threadz
That’s the way he dresses. It’s not a costume.
M. Night Shamalamadingdong!
Hilarious. I remember watching this and 10 mins in thinking, "Bull$hit!" Great to revisit this though. M has turned out a few really bad films and some of my all time favorites as well, but what I really love about him is that he isn't afraid to take chances. Sometimes that doesn't work out well, but such is life.
Okay, the scene where the kids are chilling near the gates of his house was hilarious. I didn't know M. Night had a knack for comedy
When Shyamalan makes a movie, the Gods flip a coin.
*Game of Thrones reference
I mean, his movies come out trash Either way, but they still flip a coin. gotta pass time somehow
Regarding Bruce Willis not being in signs, if I was the guy being interviewed I would have said "Who do you think plays the alien?" Then raised my eyebrows like I'd revealed something important.
He’s very underrated in a way many don’t understand I think
They know him. They're still mad after the last Airbender movie.
@@sweetbabyrodney I think even with The Village and some other stinkers M. Night would still be respected if he never did the last airbender. Omit that from his filmography and on average he's a very good director
Directing maybe, but he writes some really dumb shit.
I think he's great (most of the time)
He fucking sucks. That's why he's underrated. He had his moment of "glory", 20 years ago, but that time is long gone.
I love M night Shyamalan’s directing style seriously I think he is a really great interesting intriguing Director and the way he tells stories is very unique to him
I really like M Night Shymalan but “The Happening” is unintentionally ridiculous/hilarious
My favorite scene is when Wahlberg threatens to feed a tree a knuckle sandwich
The Visit is pure garbage. One of the worst films I’ve ever seen.
Johnny Depp was talking about "having secrets" here because in 2004 he was in the movie "Secret Window"...
Doctor: What seems to be the problem?
Me: Well, I think I've been Stuckmanized.
Doctor: *Plays the doot-doodoot-doot-doot-doot-doodoot-doot guitar riff*
Fun fact: The guitar riff, is an interpretation of the song “Jump in the line” also known as “Shake, shake Senora” by Harry Belafonte
@@ThaBotmon thank you so much! Been asking around about this song for YEARS. Heard it on the radio, but couldn't find it ANYWHERE! Thank you!
@@lunabearsong2043 You’re welcome 🙂
@Jonathan Leiman Noooo! don’t say his name 3 times! You’ll summon him 🤫
The buried secret is the friends we made along the way
I’m ironically glad to see YOU going back to making more personal projects after last year.
I remember seeing an ad for this DVD in my copy of The Village and never thought anything about it.
Imagine going out and a group weird teens with hoodies are waiting for ya
Damn, I'd love to see a Spielberg mockumentary where he's secretly capturing dinosaurs with a time machine, that would legitimately be great if done well.
I've only really loved 2 of this man's films, but one of those films just happens to be my favorite of all time: Unbreakable
Stumbled on this doco on TV in 2004.. had zero context and was completely sucked in. I remember being super freaked. They got me good. 😅
I’d like to see a film of someone who made a film that was such a huge success but the director is unable to live up to the standards he set with his first film and we see his struggle to find joy with his art and even himself.
Just an idea
You're basically describing Birdman except instead of a director, it's an actor.
that sounds like birdman lol
Just watch the Behind the Scenes footage of The Phantom Menace. It's pretty damn interesting and covers all the aspects u were talking about.
Your timing is incredible for me again because I just watched Signs again last week, and I'm about to sit down to Unbreakable, Split, and Glass this weekend.
Bruh even his documentary had a twist
Omg! I saw this back when it first aired and I ate it up hahaha. Of course back then I was a very gullible and easily creeped out 14 year old who really loved Shyamalan. That ghost boy scared the crap out of me! Watching you review it now and seeing these clips I cannot stop laughing at how absurd it all was haha! Thanks for bringing back this memory!
P.S. back in the day I also would have easily gotten all of those Shyamalan fan questions right lol!
He's so egotistical. His movies are either brilliant or terrible. Strange guy but meh.
He's the Kanye of movie directors.
Lady In The Water was self indulgence
Someone said it!!
I jokingly thought, “I bet he’s a Leo*.” And he’s born on August 6th lmfao.
*I know that doesn’t matter but I was right
I hate him. I truly do. He's a horrible person with a massive ego, who literally thinks his poop doesn't stink.
If Crows hang around Shymalan, it's cos he's nice to them. Crows can communicate about friendly people to one another.
I remember when this aired on scifi channel and never got aired again lol, at the time i remember thinking what a load of bullshit, but its become like a weird guilty pleasure of mine to watch it since it aired. ive even rented it before lol. It does legitimately come off creepy though, I like the music that they used.
I love, love, LOVE the "documentary" about the original Blair Witch Project - also, a Very guilty pleasure!!😜🖤
@@kristennelson3190 lol i remember the blair witch website haha
@@kristennelson3190 I was going to say- I loved the mockumentary for Sci-Fi about the Blair Witch Project more than the actual Blair Witch Project at the time and it was why I watched this one when it aired- hoping it'd be as enjoyable.
I found the soundtrack to The Buried Secret of M. Night Shyamalan years ago online. Was able to download it. Still have it.
It's impossible to find these days.
@@JaycRam wow thats dope. I think most of the music they used in it was from m knights other movies. Although i could be wrong.
Chris looks a touch more relaxed and happy today. I’m happy for you dude - love from Wales 🏴 x
Ah, yes...the magical Cosmo quiz that grants you access to darkweb secrets.
This is one of the biggest vanity projects I've ever seen.
I mean... Chappie is a really big budget Die Antward vanity project in a lot of ways.
You should watch Peter Jackson’s “Forgotten Silver”. It’s genius...
Yes!!! One of the best mockumentary
Hey, Chris! I had no idea this “documentary” existed so I found this fascinating. I run hot & cold with MNS’s films. SIGNS & THE SIXTH SENSE are my favorites & I see something new with each viewing. If I really like a movie, I’ll watch it repeatedly & focus on a different aspect each time. The movie as a whole first, then the writing, acting, directing, cinematography, music & lighting etc. I haven’t dissected a lot of movies but I find it a very satisfying and illuminating experience. Thank you for your perseverance and following your dream.
Shyamalan is that director who seems like such a nice that you just feel bad about his body of work being messy and inconsistent. Still haven't forgiven him for The Last Airbender though.
Let it go.
@@MrSkullChrist Has Chris let Dragonball Evolution go?
What really angers me is how he defends The Last Airbender. He seems to have a serious ego problem
Holy crap, I watched this back in the day - I’d totally forgotten about it! :) Thanks for the trip down weird memory lane. Hah! Love your videos & reviews, man.
I have to disagree about the "mockumentaries wouldn't work today" - aspect. Martin Scorsese's Rolling Thunder Revue had me believing the entire time that it was real.
i just wanna say, your appreciation of m. night shyamalan is actually the main thing that made me sub to your channel because i was just so happy to find someone who didn't bash him for no effin reason all the time so thanks for that :D
I was trolled. Long ago I only saw that Johnny Depp interview and thought it was real
Check out mockumentary "Incident at Loch Ness" featuring Werner Herzog directed by Zach Penn! It's not loaded with padding and the commentary is also staged and as hilarious as the film
