    This doesn't work on my centre caps (OZ Racing). I think it's because they are slightly 'domed'. Nothing wrong with the suction cup it works fine on any other flat surface. Very frustrating.

    This is 200 IQ level stuff... Had replacement wheel caps sitting around for most of the year, been putting it off as the best I'd read was taking a drill to make a hole, then using a hook to pull them out... This instead took 6 bits of tape and 10 minutes of my time. Thank you, amazing tip!

    I don't understand why people go through all of this extra stuff, when you can literally take a flat head screwdriver covered with a microfiber towel to easily pop the center caps off. The flathead can't damage the wheel if it's covered 🤷🏾‍♂️

    Do we think double-sided tape (the thick spongy kind, not scotch tape ha) would be strong enough to do this? Or is there something special or stronger about the Velcro adhesive?

    • @xcaliburG37S
      @xcaliburG37S  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry I missed Post. I choose it because it was a 3M product with strong adhesion meant to hold weight vs tape its usually stronger sticking power. But you could try 3m duct tape or any tape is worth a try.

    • @xcaliburG37S

      Depends on how well it was prepped before painted. If not prepped well could rip the paint right off. Especially if its 3M or Gorilla brands.

      It will work on any wheel center cap so long as its not rusted or seized on there. Try some good duct tape first, if not then you can use the velcro 3M.

    I'm thinking there has to be some way to get them off using a suction cup (I'm thinking maybe a radar detector or GPS windshield mount) to pull them off. Then you can use something you already own and there should be no residue left behind. I'm looking into this because I want to get rid of the Ford caps on my Mustang wheels, but I don't feel like taking all my wheels off to do it.

    I tried gorilla tape cuz the store didnt have the good velcro, but unfortunately it didnt work. Went to target today and I ended up getting command strip velcro because it claimed a stronger hold than the velcro (16lbs vs 10lbs) and that didnt work either. Might be because my caps are engraved in the center so theres not as much surface to stick... gonna try to do it on the edge later

There is now a ton of residue / pieces of fastener / glue / etc on that cap and I'm at the point of trying anything to get it out (without taking off the wheel). This worked like a charm! Just great! However, I have an addendum..... There is absolutely no need to pay $10 bucks! You can find similar velcro at the Dollar Store, specifically, The Dollar Tree. It worked just as good as your demo! They popped right off! In fact, I was able to use the same strip of velcro 3 times before having to cut another piece for the last center cap! So yeah, I paid $1.08 total to remove all of the center caps on my BMW! Thanks for the solution, brother!

    it actually doesn't work for GPS on the dash, because if it's in the sun, which it is at some point, the heat from the sun makes the adhesive gooey, and if you attach a GPS (I have a Garmin Nuvi), the weight of the GPS makes it slide down from where you've got it stuck because the sun is melting the adhesive. Did that.

    NOTE: DO NOT try this if you have caps that have emblems, or raised surface within the center piece. For this to work, it must have a complete flat surface to properly work. I tried the Scotch 3M as well as some standard Walmart brand and both did not work.

    • @xcaliburG37S
      @xcaliburG37S  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry it didn't work for you dude. The center caps in the video actually have a recessed logo. In other words its not flush, but it did work for me since its only like 1/16th of an inch recessed. Some caps do have a big extended logo and it may not work as you said for those types.

    • @jensvielmann7662
      @jensvielmann7662 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine has some raised surfaces as well... still I ll give it a try.
      I tryed with some lesser sticking tape even before i saw this video. Unsuccessfully. But their is no logical reason it should not work, if you find tape that sticks well enough.

    All I did was take a very flat, not sharp, butter knife and stick it between the cap and rim. Slowly went around it, prying at it. It popped up enough for me to just pop it off with my hands. Super simple, and no damage whatsoever. Tried the tape method, but it didn’t work for me, lol.

    • @xcaliburG37S
      @xcaliburG37S  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes about an hour. If your like me using a low profile jack on a car that sits less than 3 inches from the ground. If you have a lift and and airgun, go for it! If you think you can do all 4 in less than an hour, go for it! I'll still beat you using this method within 5 minutes.

  • @xcaliburG37S
    @xcaliburG37S  12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    No, you use trhe backing of the tape you used to pull them off(the sticky part). Take it and dab the adhesive if any left behind. It will remove it easily. I've done this over 5 times, never had an issue. Now if you use some cheap tape, it might leave a lot of adhesive. You can try other tapes like somne mentioned duct tape. But My caps are on good and that wouldnt work.

What I found makes it easier is when cutting fastner cut a little bit more so you have some that loops over the top and bottom of cap a little bit when applying and pull as instructed. When I did it that way the came right out every time!

    Good job, I used a different sort of tape (actually half of a hook&loop adhesive fastener set) but it still did the job.

    Thank your for saving me an hour or 2 of removing my rims! I even used velcro from the local dollar store, and re-used the same piece.

    This is great and just to add to it, I had some tricky center caps and I just did two strips instead of one. Either side by side or you can spread them apart a little and just use two pairs of pliers.

    Awesome. The service advisor at BMW said, "I'd take the wheel off.". The tape idea worked great. I'll second the Gorilla tape recommendation. I used one piece for all 4 wheels, no need for a pliers, since you can make a nice big grab handle with the tape.
    Thanks!!

    Or just go to your local discount tire and take advantage of their free rotations and ask them to pop the center caps out and leave them off. Most people need their tires rotated anyway.

    I followed the video but improvised with some gorilla tape, the center cap came off easy. Simple and no damage!
