Put some respect on this man's name. Hardly anyone showed to his funeral. He is the one who interviews you before you get to go to heaven or hell. He is up there with the immortals. There never has nor ever will be another one like him. I miss Mean Gene.
It still boggles my mind nobody showed, I know people are busy but he was buried in the Atlanta area I believe and there was plenty of talent living within few hours driving distance, no excuses.
Exactly! You could understand if he had a reputation for being a jerk or had a criminal record but to the best of my knowledge he was clean. His iconic work did a lot to further careers and the business in general. Boggles the mind that more people didn’t show or make tribute.
He did not want an open funeral, he chose to have it private with immediate family and few closest friends. What are you talking about no one showed? He wanted a private funeral and he had his wishes met.
I was at the first Wrestlemania 1 closed circuit event in Allen Park MI. It was sold out. We bought tickets early. There were some satellite issues at the beginning but it was still a real blast! PPV experiences were never as much fun as closed circuit.
I saw WrestleMania One on the Jumbo-Tron screen at the old Seattle Kingdome!! It was nearly half full if I remember right, which would have been about 35 thousand people!! I Was surprised how many showed up for the show.
The average wrestler back then actually looked like he could kick your ass in a bar fight and would whip you with a belt for acting up as a kid. Now half of them look like they work at Target or Home Depot on the weekends.
If Vince was rolling the dice on the first Wrestlemania, he should have had a better card. It obviously paid off but a lot of these matches were questionable. He should have had Santana take the belt from Valentine. Steamboat should have wrestled Bret Hart. The body slam match was trash and the Main Event should have been Hogan vs Piper for the title. Hogan should have dropped the title to Piper Months earlier only to regain it at WM.
RIP to the late great Mean Gene Okerlund

“Liberace was a pro” is such an awesome line
Greatest pro wrestling interviewer ever, and it’s not debatable
Wrestlemania 1 was awesome.
Mean gene was awesome interviewing heels.
His reactions were gold.
Especially if it involved Dr. D!

I miss the old days when guys were named Gene, Verne, and Butch.

Say what you want about Vince McMahon he brought wrestling into the mainstream and nobody can take that from him
Vince was a better worker than Hogan
“Whatever happened in Allentown”. He killed his girlfriend. He’s a murderer.
Man I miss mean gene
Closed Curcuit means CCTV here in the UK
He was so well loved only a handfull of wrestllers went to his funeral , what a disgrace.
If Snuka would've been a part of the WM1 main event would it have been a 6 man match of Hulk, Mr. T and Snuka vs. Piper, Orndorff and Bob Orton Jr?
Snuka was a dirtbag.Hes lucky mcmahon got him off for murdering nancy argentino. He is lucky is was. Towel boy at wrestlemania one
Yeah, u wonder. Ot may have been a longer match. With Mr. T having 0 experience, it was actually a short match
Good one
I heard Howard Finkle cane up with Wrestlemania. Vince coined it.
Too bad they couldnt have Orton vs Snuka or something. They had a few undercard matches that didnt have to happen.
According to legend, it was Howard Finkel who came up with the title of 'Wrestlemania'.
Howard Finkel himself said in an interview that he suggested the name to Vince and he got the idea from Beatlemania in the 60s.
Meeeeeeann Geeeeene! Woooooo.

can they zoom in further? not close enough

The card could have been better. No Bruno.
Agreed. At least Beefcake & Johnny V vs. David & Bruno Sammartino.
@@ludvigborga3676 Its a shame that Bruno's only WM match is the NFL Battle Royale at WM2.
Hello
RF is the worst shoot interviewer. Some of these questions are just stupid and no follow up question to Mr T missing the press conference.
Snuka. Whatever happened there…..
It died on the vine. The guy moved or somethin’
Every time I seen Mean Gene, I always remember Scheme Gene and his "You can't blame guy for trying to connnn....uh earn a buck"
