Also, a BIG requirement for vocal analysis is 2014 Beacon Theatre. As well as her 2018 New Years (NOT 2016) but 2018 where she returned after being ridiculed for her first performance and slayed.
Yes! Maybe include the good performance she did before the notorious All I Want For Christmas Is You performance at Beacon Theatre 2014. And that 2016 and 2018 NYE performance. Basically cover how Mariah bounces back after the criticisms about her voice 🫶🏻
This is great take - esp. because the Beacon Theatre moments showed us how fragile and inconsistent her voice can be - she had really good nights and really bad ones.
I’m seeing a lack of post-emancipation recommendations. So these are some of my favorite My All - Melbourne 2013 Hero - Beacon Theatre 2014 Vision of Love - Vegas 6/17/2016 Thank God I Found You - Vegas 6/25/2016 Emotions - Taipei 2018 My All - Singapore 2018 Also, I think this will be a big help. There’s a video on the TH-cam channel TeamMariah called “Mariah Carey Nodules Day vs Vocals On Fire”. It’s one of my favorites but I’ve never seen a vocal coach react to it. It’s one of the best videos displaying some of her recent inconsistencies in an honest and constructive way while also showcasing some of her best recent live vocals. In my opinion it’s ESSENTIAL viewing if you want a full picture representation of her voice now
Tokyo Dome was 1996. 1995-1996 is considered by lambs to be her "prime". But I would also like to add 1993 MSG if you don't mind shoddy camera quality. Someone uploaded the full concert recently.
1.) Vision of Love - Live SNL 1990 2.) 1993 MSG Concert (the whole concert is excellent) 3.) 1995 MSG Concert (the whole RAW footage is excellent) 4.) Vision of Love - Live Apolo 1990 5.) Vision of Love - Live Arsenio Hall 1990 (black and red dress; 2 performances) 6.)1996 Rotterdmn Concert (the whole concert is great) 7.) If It's Over - Live 1992 on SNL & Grammy's 8.) Can''t Let Go - Live 1992 on SNL & Soul Train 9.) Emotions - Live on Arsenio Hall & Soul Train circa 1991 & 1992 10.) Vanishing - Live 1990 SNL 11.) Vision of Love - Live 1998 (RAW audio footage from Butterfly tour in Sydney Australia) 12.) Endless Love - Live 1994 (all the performances w/ Luther Vandross) 13.) Without You - Live 1994 JApan 14.) Somewhere Over The Rainbow/If Only You Knew Patti Labele Tribute Live 1998 15.) Hero Live on Aresnio Hall Show 1993 16.) Hero Live on Jay Leno Show 1993 17.) One Sweet Day Live at Grammy's 1996 w/ Boys II Men 18.) Joy To The World Live 1994 Argentina 19.) 1996 London concert (the whole concert is pretty good) 20.) Open Arms Live 1996 (pretty much all the perfomanes are great) 21.) Someday Live at the AMA's circa 1991 22.) We're Not Making Love Anymore w/ Michael Bolton live 1990 23.) Butterfly Live 1997 David Letterman 24.) Hero Live 1994 Paris 25.) Hero Live 1999 w/ Opera male legend (check the RAW footage) 26.) When You Believe w/ Whitney at the Oscars 27.) Vision of Love Live 2003 (pretty much all the CHarmbracelet RAW footage performances of that song ranges from good too great). 28.) Who's Lovin You (improvisation session RAW footage from 1990) 29.) All I Want For Christmas Is You (accustic session on Jimmy Fallon 2012) 30.) Dreamlover Live on Aresnio Hall 1993 & live in japan 1993 w/ a black jacket on there's plenty more RAW, UNEDITED performances/concerts but that's all I could think of right now...
Perfect list! I just want to add that the best Vision of Love in 2003 is the one in Zurich+ the whole show was very good -My All, 1997 SNL -I Still believe, almost all the performances in 1998 and 1999 ( specially 1999 Rosie O'Donnell show + American music awards performance) -Can't Take That Away, 2003, Costa Mesa (the climax was lipped but the rest is perfect and she perfectly hit high studio notes) + the whole show was amazing -Vanishing, 1998 in Sydney
People would recommend 90’s performances obviously but i’d love to see charmbracelet more since every part of her voice was well developed and stable and it also sounds more like the voice she carried for the rest of her life compared to her earlier work.
Absolutely! Her vocals on the Charmbracelet Tour were amazing. There's a reason why lambs consider it to be a second prime! Highly recommend Vision Of Love - Mariah Carey (live at Zurich) 2003 - Charmbracelet Tour and Make It Happen
I definitely do resonate with her post-emancipation music and voice. I feel like she's not given the grace to embrace the changes in her voice as time goes on. Maybe she puts that expectation on herself, I don't know. Also, there's a lot of amazing vocal moments from the charmbracelet and caution world tours.
Please also consider adding the performances she gave at the very beginning of her musical career. Eg. “We’re Not Making Love Anymore” with Michael Bolton and “America The Beautiful” live 1990. Her live performances of Hero are mostly great (1993-1996). The whole Music Box concert at Madison Square Garden in 1993 is exceptional. Her duets are also a testament to her vocal prowess especially her ability and musicality eg. “Endless Love” live with Luther Vandross in 1994 Plus of course her live duet with Whitney Houston “When You Believe” on the Oprah show.
1995-1996 was a period where her voice peaked and was in good form but it wasn't her " prime" as her voice wasn't even fully developed. Her true prime is 2001-2004 ( her early 30s ) voice was bigger, fuller while being as agile of not more than prior years. Range was intact . And you can tell . Her hardest songs and her highest belts was from this period of time. Because she knew her voice was at its best she recorded a lot during that period and dealt with vocal fatigue. S he was inconsistent due to the nodules, however, the instrument itself ( ie her voice ) was at it best form both technically and sonically
SNL vanishing 1990 SNL If it’s over 1991 NBC thanksgiving special in 1993 without you the Patti labelle tribute in 1999 SNL 1990 all in your mind David letterman’s butterfly performance Her voice is so magical 😊
@@whitneyhouston1122 yes he o’Neil gerald aka mr.reclaim ur voice is definitely going have a longgggg list of Mariah Carey beautiful performances there just soooo many to choose from .
One of my fave performances is Christmas Time Is In The Air Again (Live @ Rockefeller, 2013). I know it’s a Christmas moment but the vocals are just gorgeous. In regards to Mariah’s voice changing over the years, I think she has been so generous in trying to sing the songs as close to their original key over the years. I would really love to see her change them to a much lower key so that it fits her current voice. She still sounds amazing but I just know her lows would shine and breathe new life into her already legendary catalog. Mariah is music!
Mariah has moments where her voice and skill come together in a way that is astounding. Because of many factors (her album release schedule, lack of touring, and the ease of current technology) there's a bunch more post 2000 performances to view. But I've seen some of the best ones already mentioned, but I'll throw in some of my faves. Hero - Tokyo Dome 1996 Emotions - Arsenio Hall 1991 SURPRISE! Mariah Carey Gives Private Performance For Fans! 2014 One Sweet Day - Grammys 1996
she ate in emotions live at arseneio hall where she sang low E3 notes and hit like 5 F#5 belts, F#6 all the way to F#7 whistles and one of them actually peaked Bb7
I feel like some of her best work is post-Emancipation. I think Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel is one of her best and most underrated albums, so definitely resonate with her work afterwards.
I really enjoy her music after emancipation… my favorite albums are charmbracelet, me I am Mariah, and memories of an imperfect angel - honestly I am craving a contemporary jazz album - in the vein of streetwize
With all love, I caution you with some of those later performances post 1997. Quite a few of the incredible moments are lipsynced, and if you are reviewing/analyzing her live voice, this is important to be aware of when including footage for a new video. Loved the video!
Always be my baby Live at Atlantic City 2009, I don't Wanna Cry live in Rotterdam Daydream World Tour 1996, Joy to the world live in St. John Divine 1994, Can't let go & If it's over SNL 1991, Vision of love & Make it happen Charmbracelet Tour Zurich 2003 I looove Mariah's music post-Emancipation especially her last studio album Caution!
Not to blow your mind, but you may also have to consider doing a holiday version for songs like "Fall In Love at Christmas", "Joy to the World", "All I Want For Christmas Is You", and "Oh Holy Night"! 😂💯🐑✨
I'm so jealous that you'll get to hear those performances for the first time also I recommend Vision of love - Charmbracelet tour Zurich 2003, very satisfying adlibs for VOL post 90s
YESSS!!! My favorite of her VOL performances! It was like the perfect mix of the agility, ease, and clarity of Daydream vocals with the fullness and depth to her maturing voice.
So since everyone is recommending her biggest performances, I’ll recommend a few of the “hidden gems”, or at least the ones that I haven’t seen requested much. Though I’d prefer if u reacted to the FULL Tokyo dome 1996 concert, u should at LEAST do… - “forever” (I’m actually FLABBERGASTED NO ONE MENTIONED FOREVER ITS ONE OF HER MOST INSANE SONGS OF ALL TIME VOCALLY and ik I said forever specifically at Tokyo dome but u could also do live at Rotterdam 1996), “vision of love”, “anytime u need a friend”, and “I don’t wanna cry” too maybe. -MSG 1995 “make it happen” - “Vanishing” live at MSG 1993 -“emotions” live at Des O Connor 1992 or Soul Train 1992, also if u don’t mind horrible quality live at Worcester 1993 and Rotterdam 1996 -“Vision of love” live at Zurich 2003 and London 1996, these are HANDS DOWN 2 of her BEST performances for that song of ALL TIME, like i don’t think any other VOL performance rlly matches up to them other than maybe the Oprah 1992 one, the only bad thing is that they’re both horrible quality but they’re there if ur interested!! -“My All” live at Sydney 2013 -“I’ll be there” live at Sydney 2013 -“Surprise performance” 2013 -“Joy to the World” live at St John the Divine 1994 -“Yours” live at Today Show 2003
One Sweet Day with boyz 2 men live at BET 2001 is such an underrated gem but really good performance to study her voice and the changes BET Blueprint 2005 also is a must see
The clip at 6:06 can be found on TH-cam if you search Mariah Carey gives private performance for fans. It's sort of an improvisational piece, she is brilliant at crafting melodies and lyrics on the fly😍
Solid list for sure! I would add a few more that I haven't seen recommended yet, but are must-watches: Vision Of Love - Mariah Carey (live at Zurich) 2003 - Charmbracelet Tour - One of her best vocals of this song and her tone here was gorgeous, full, and so clear 😍 She sounded so confident and free - I would describe her voice here as a mix of the ease and agility of Daydream era with the maturity and fullness of Glitter A Home for the Holidays - 2001 (she sings a medley of Never Too Far & Hero, Reflections (care enough), and I'll Be There (ft. Trey Lorenz) - gorgeous tone and tasteful improvisations with runs and ad libs that we're not used to hearing bc she doesn't sing them exactly like the record Joy To The World (Live Disney Christmas Parade 2004) - the one she sang at St. John the Divine is more popular bc she went off at the end, but I think the one at Disney sounded better because of the fullness and depth in her maturing tone. But you can't go wrong with the 1994 TV Show version, St. John the Divine 1994, or 2004 Disney). The entire Madison Square Garden (undubbed) concert - her undubbed vocals sound fuller and more resonant than the dubbed version. She sang Vision of Love three times because of the drummer messing up, so we got an extra treat of out-of-this-world vocals at Mariah's prime. If It's Over - SNL 1991 (I prefer this over the Grammys version because her vocals on SNL were more raw and gritty, plus she sings the entire song on SNL but she skips the second verse at the Grammys). Probably the most chesty belting she's ever given in a live performance! We Belong Together (Live at MTV Movie Awards 2005) - flawless and the climax hit harder live than on the record The entire Angels Advocate concert - 2010 (especially Make it Happen) - would make a great comparison for her singing the same songs in the early 90s (i.e., MTV Unplugged, NBC Thanksgiving Special, Tokyo Dome, etc.) to her stellar rendition in 2010 Can't Let Go - Live (Arsenio Hall 1991 or Soul Train Awards 1992) - flawless! My All - Singapore 2018 (a more recent one; stellar vocals; her tone was so beautiful and clear here!)
Beyonce actually has said the reason she wanted to sing was Mariah Carey and that she started doing more melismas in her music because she was inspired by her.
Cant Let Go/If Its Over - SNL 1992 (her vocals on this day are CRAZY). Literally, its so raw and powerful. You have to watch it; Joy To The World 1994 - at the Christmas Concert; Endless Love with Luther is amazing as well (any live performance)
UNDERAPPRECIATED (but holds strong today); Chain Of Fools (Divas Live duet with Aretha Franklin). Mariah was not feeling well, but pulled this vocal from the pits of her soul. SO!GOOD!)
Madison square garden concert in 1995 or at least the Make It Happen performance and also Joy to the world 1994 in St. John Divine or in an Argentina show please!! It can be argued that 1994 is her best year vocally because it has the richness of 1993 but the agility and tone of 1995-1996 I would also highly recommend Vanishing in the 1993 Music Box tour at NYC MSG
The way NO ONE mentioned "Never Too Far/Hero" Medley (NYC Hall Park 2001). My All - RWT Milan 2000. Also, if you want a bunch of rare footage, check out Mariah Station Concerts. They've been buying and posting footage of the Butterfly World Tour for the last few months.
Hey O'Neil, it's El Boogie! Mariah was my #1 vocal inspiration and the performances listed are great! The standouts on your list for me are If It's Over, MTV Unplugged, You and I, and the Jimmy Kimmel surprise performance for the fans. Those all seem to be totally live. The simplest way to describe my thoughts is I think she's spent so much of her career on the muscle side of the air / muscle balance that she's lost some flexibility as well as dynamic range. There are moments today where it sounds like she could regain a lot of that access with the right training.
You already have 3 of my favorite performances: If It's Over - power, just pure vocal acrobatic If only you knew/ somewhere over the rainbow - musicality, mellisma or runs that stay true to the melody You and I - low notes galore, the first and only performance where her lower register was the highlight One vocal coach also alluded that she exhibits mastery of mic technique. She positions it in a certain deliberate way that it will create those special sound effects with her voice.
As a die hard lamb whose also curious about how the voice works, I think the best approach to this is comparing mariah live vocals from different decades (90’s, 00’s, 10’s & 20’s) of the same songs and how she approaches them differently as the years go on. Especially during the Vegas residence times. You could also dive into one of the most talked about phenomenon in the lambily, which is the discourse of how Mariah’s tone completely changed form music box - daydream - butterfly and how the lighter tone in daydream could’ve affected her voice And if you really wanna go into how Mariah’s voice change maybe wait a few days cause she’s got a new residency in Vegas and she’s gonna sing songs that she has never sang before.
Apart from the stuff mentioned from the 90s and 2000s you should do things from the 2010s!!! She has some wonderfulll performances from the 10s There is stuff from Vegas and the Caution Tour and the 2014 Beacon Christmas Show that are just spectacular!!
These are my absolute favs 😊🧡: Make It Happen - Madison Square Garden 1995 Joy to the World - Disney Christmas Parade 2004 I Don't Wanna Cry - Tokyo Dome 1996 Emotions - MTV Unplugged
Tokyo Dome 1996 and 1998 are both important as they serve as good case study of the vocal shift from Daydream to Butterfly. They have a nearly identical in set list. 1999 Homecoming for when she made an appearance at her old high school and was bit overworked during this era. 2001 Home for the Holidays special was good to see her post mental/vocal recovery. 2014 Holiday special with her mom is good for when she was pregnant with her twins.
I love MIAM it is in her top 5 for me. And I love Caution and saw her live on that tour and the vocals exceeded my expectations. There's snippets of her singing circles, sipping away, and Music Box on that tour and the vocals are pretty identical to those eras. She has been by far the most rewarding artist to be a fan of. The list is pretty good so far. I would suggest some Sweet Sweet Fantasy Tour vocals, particularly of Emotions, might be a nice comparison thing. I can't remember which city was the best, idk why my brain wants to say South Africa lol. Maybe my brain is right. And any of the band intros on the Charm bracelet tour.
Please consider checking out "Butterfly" David Letterman Show 1997. Such a beautiful yet challenging song to sing. I love her more raspy tone here as well
GREAT performances you NEED to check it out: My all live in Singapore 2018 Joy to the world live 2015 Vision of Love live Zurich 2003 Improv in Gold Coast Austrália 2013

vision of love jamaica 2015!! my all melbourne 2013, her "private performance" from 2013 too (THE AGILITY!), my all singapore 2018 just a few post prime ones that are worth checking out ❤
Jamaica 2015 is essential I think just for her being vocally unhinged in the best way. Also think you should watch Rotterdam 1996 in full. Her adlibs in both are insane. Make It Happen, Vision Of Love, My All, and Emotions tend to generally show off her voice in every era. My All 2018 has a great performance (I think in China). Butterfly tour Sydney and Taipei 1998 for Vision of Love and Make It Happen. Hero February 2016. I'll stop before this gets out of control 😂 As for the changes in Mariah's voice, I still follow her. Mariah (tied with Beyoncé) is my favorite artist. I love all the eras of her music and the tones they've had. One of my favorite things about Mariah is that she has a new voice on each album
Vision of love 1990 GMA- her ability to pick up her bg singers' adlibs etc Cant let go or If its over SNL- Power and girth Vanishing SNL rehearsal- chest to whistle transition and her ear Emotions Arsenio hall joy to the world st john- gospelriah Anytime you need a friend (hand on the hip)/ forever- tokyo dome If only you knew/ SOTR essence- my fave mariah tone.. just watched ur vid after typing 😅 its not presumptuous.. she said it a couple of times… stage fright etc to quote her when someone questioned her voice during the #1s to infinity residency “if theres any confusion, theyre more than welcome to come sing w me in the shower” something to that effect and ends it w a diva smirk th-cam.com/video/WAf4_72vHPM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=vneErTe9ySdyanr0

MAKE IT HAPPEN MADISON SQUARE GARDEN 1993!!! Also my all in Melbourne (not sure the year I think it was 2009 or 10?) this one is not necessary I think but it’s one of my fav vocal performances she did of that song. The distance in 2018 (forgot where she performed this live, maybe a night talk show? She’s wearing a pink dress lol!) and with you on GMA 2018
I hope you can consider checking this performances I listed. 1) Without You- Sweet Sweet Fantasy 2016 (Oslo) 2) Against All Odds- Sweet Sweet Fantasy 2016 (Oslo) 3) Can't Take That Away 2003 (Costa Mesa) 4) Vision Of Love/Infinity Live on Billboard Awards 2015 5) Vision Of Love Live on Jimmy Kimmel 2017 (This is necessary to check because this after her New Year fiasco) 6) Vision Of Love 2015 in Jamaica (This is necessary to study because confidence contributes to Mariah's great performances. She was high from the smoke of the weeds when she performed this. She doesn't have any inhibitions. Many attempts of belts happened and this is I believe her 100% live singing of that song)
Ohhhhh Mariah performances : If its Over (SNL), Someday (1991), Cant Let Go (SNL), Vision Of Love (GMA), Hark The Herald Angels Sing (1991), Dreamlover (Arsenio), Joy to the World (St John), Anytime You Need A Friend (Tokyo), Vision of Love (MSG), Hero (MSG), Ill be there (MSG) Somewhere Over The Rainbow/If Only You Knew (BET), Butterfly (Tonight Show), Vanishing (Butterfly Tour Impromptu), When You Believe (Oprah), Vision of love (the view), Hero (Pavarotti & friends), Ill be there (Home for the holidays 2001), Never too far (NYC Park Hall), The One (MTV Special 2001), You and I (BET 2001), Band Intro (Charmbracelet Tour LA), Vision Of Love (BET Blueprint), With You Im Born Again (Save The Music), Love Story (Acoustic MTV), O Come All Ye Faithful (ABC), One Child (Christmas at Washington), My All (Melbourne), All I Want For Christmas feat Michael Buble (2013), Impromptu for Jimmy Fallon (2013) Cant Let Go/Love Takes Time (Sydney 2013), O Holy Night (Beacon 2014 Dec 22), Always Be My Baby (Oslo 2016), My All (Singapore 2017), Heroes/Joy to the World (Heroes of NY), Through The Rain (Paris), Hark the Herald Angel Sing (Highland Ca 2023). It seems that Mariah;s voice will always contain a magical tonal quality that draws a lot of us in, something at times fragile, yet beautiful and immensely uplifting lives in that woman's throat and spirit, her musical mind seems to have been in consistent evolution (her influences rooted in people like the Clark Sisters or Slick Rick evidence the likeness she has to ever-changing musically/culturally hungry minds) but it seems like the inconsistency that her instrument puts her through limits our access as her fans to that, I think she knows her instrument better than ever and she is someone who's musical instincts are always absorbing which is why its always so mesmerizing to hear Mariah in new contexts, but it is hard sometimes to see her struggle with herself and as of late it seems like the lack of trust in her instrument has started to seep into other areas. The last time it seems (at least in the public eye which is a fraction of whats really going on) like she was free of the 'Mariah Carey performance standard' looming on her head was around 2013 (in my opinion), not to say she hasn't had incredible moments, she always will, but theres some sort of dissonance between Mariah the musician and the expectation of Mariah Carey that seems to widen as time goes by. And pop culture's take on her doesnt help, she's often highlighted in the light of everything else but her mind, her choices and her convictions which ultimately is what makes up her DNA as an artist. As a fan im always beyond excited about what she does in the studio which remains the sacred place its always been for her. Mariah holds a unique space in pop music through her hard work and the context of culture in which she rose to fame, but she is one of the few that was not only very self aware but was instrumental to awaken the white spaces in the music industry to the lucrative business of black art as well as represent and spearhead masses of creatives that were already knowing that black music was long overdue the amount of sponsorship someone like Mariah garnered. In the end thats always a double edged sword in my opinion, but her saying in her book 'it wasnt about crossing over, rather transcending' makes the point that conviction in those shifting cultural waters marks the true difference between a legendary artist and a opportunistic one, she remains forever a creative force that mashes the stoic joy and conviction of gospel music, the melancholy of jazz, the dexterity and emotional complexity of the likes of Stevie, and the vocal expressionism of Aretha, Clark Sisters...She is irreplaceable as she stands today, and will always be, and from someone who is not only a Mariah fan but a music fan it will always be a blessing to sit down and listen to anything she has put together, her journey as an artist only points to evolution, she has never been one to go backwards and I wouldnt expect anything less from a bonafide living legend from every standpoint.
Mariah’s tribute to Stevie, You and I, for the low notes because they are so rich, her tone is exquisite. I love Mariah past and present. Her musicianship is unmatched. ❤❤❤
Also I consider myself a real lamb. I know Mariah Carey‘s voice isn’t what it used to be but I do believe she still have something in there. I do feel like the low confidence levels have made her use pitch correction and autotune and to cover her mistakes, but I do like it when she tries, even if she strains or struggles I like to see her try and attempt instead of just lipping but I also understand the condition of her voice as well so I’m not really hard on her I just hate when she lips all the time but I get it. Also, I feel like ever since 2015 I do believe that’s when her confidence levels dropped and people got to tearing her down and I used to be a part of that community until she shut me all the way up when I really started getting into her discography and I think that’s what haters should do before they talk about Mariah Carey‘s voice the should really get into her Catalog and sit down cause she gagged me when I started getting deeper involved
All of these 100%. Also add Vanishing rehearsal at SNL. I really like the quarantine era vocals. Check out We belong together late night Valentine's mix performance and the 2020 version of Vision of Love on Good Morning America. And almost anything impromptu, there is a jazz performance of her in a club standing next to a piano, oh and the duet with Michael Bolton if you haven't heard that.
Some Additional: ▪︎ One Sweet Day - BET ▪︎ Butterfly - SNL ▪︎ Open Arms - MTV Studio ▪︎ Anytime You Need a Friend (go for actual live on David Letterman) ▪︎ My Saving Grace & Through The Rain [Oprah or the 2 award shows performances] ▪︎ Fly like a Bird (American Idol Benefit NOT Grammys
Her performance of vanishing on SNL, she slayed that song despite it being among her hardest to sing
SNL rehearsal!
I’m seeing a lack of post-emancipation recommendations. So these are some of my favorite
My All - Melbourne 2013
Hero - Beacon Theatre 2014
Vision of Love - Vegas 6/17/2016
Thank God I Found You - Vegas 6/25/2016
Emotions - Taipei 2018
My All - Singapore 2018
Also, I think this will be a big help. In my opinion it’s ESSENTIAL viewing if you want a full picture representation of her voice now
Upvote this guys these are great 😊❤ I agree these are necessary for understanding the evolution of her voice
@@MDak28 thank you! I’ll try to get some people from my channel to vote too

I’m so glad you did later performances, she is still using that voice! Melbourne ‘13 in is EPICCCC
THESE ONES!!! OFC, THANK U FOR ACKNOWLEDGING IT. Most of the performances they chose are when she's in her prime!
I think one of the best live performances I enjoy is the Stevie wonder tribute - you and I
Ugh, I enjoy it too, unfortunately it was heavily edited/dubbed.
You read my mind. I highly recommend “You and I”.
Not that heavily. The undubbed is good too but the audio quality is worse@@RSD001

Tokyo Dome was 1996. 1995-1996 is considered by lambs to be her "prime". But I would also like to add 1993 MSG if you don't mind shoddy camera quality. Someone uploaded the full concert recently.
I think 1995-1996 is considered as her peak by most, with some mentioning 1993-94 but 1990-1996 is regarded as her prime overall.
@@GarageStudio7but emphasis on 1993-1996, since that’s when her technique was the best!
1993-1996 first prime
1997-2003 peak
2005-2007 ending peak
@@whitneyhouston1122 Peak is supposed to be the voice at its very best. I don’t see how 97-98 would be part of that.

Perfect list
Perfect list ^
Perfect list! I just want to add that the best Vision of Love in 2003 is the one in Zurich+ the whole show was very good
-My All, 1997 SNL
-I Still believe, almost all the performances in 1998 and 1999 ( specially 1999 Rosie O'Donnell show + American music awards performance)
-Can't Take That Away, 2003, Costa Mesa (the climax was lipped but the rest is perfect and she perfectly hit high studio notes) + the whole show was amazing
-Vanishing, 1998 in Sydney
People would recommend 90’s performances obviously but i’d love to see charmbracelet more since every part of her voice was well developed and stable and it also sounds more like the voice she carried for the rest of her life compared to her earlier work.
Absolutely! Her vocals on the Charmbracelet Tour were amazing. There's a reason why lambs consider it to be a second prime!
Highly recommend Vision Of Love - Mariah Carey (live at Zurich) 2003 - Charmbracelet Tour and Make It Happen
Yes
I feel live 8 2005, we belong together, and make it happen, and hero, were all excellent......
“Endless Love” live with Luther Vandross in 1994
Plus of course her live duet with Whitney Houston “When You Believe” on the Oprah show.
The way how the basketball players looked when she did America the beautiful. 😍
@@Contantina46 Yes plus the sportscaster/commentator saying “The palace now has a queen” right after her performance.
SNL vanishing 1990
SNL If it’s over 1991
NBC thanksgiving special in 1993 without you

Can’t wait for the Mariah vids !!!
Make it Happen live performances ANY of them 😩 I just love the song on its live format.
Latto, feat.YDB Mariah Carey BET awards 2022 🦋🐑
Vision of love live on GMA 1990 is superb!
the You and I tribute is hands down one of the best vocal performances of ALL TIME!!
You should check out Joy to the World Live at St. John The Divine (1994)
Hero - Tokyo Dome 1996
Emotions - Arsenio Hall 1991
SURPRISE! Mariah Carey Gives Private Performance For Fans! 2014
One Sweet Day - Grammys 1996
The tours are the best.... That 1993 madison swuare garden is insane vocslly
she ate in emotions live at arseneio hall where she sang low E3 notes and hit like 5 F#5 belts, F#6 all the way to F#7 whistles and one of them actually peaked Bb7
2016 was her best year of the last decade, She did so many concerts. The sweet sweet fantasy tour, Christmas concert and 1#to Infinity.
Do VISION OF LOVE Good Morning America 1990 - it’s AMAZING- a raw vocal and the beginning and end are incredible
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
im excited for the analysis 😭😭
Always be my baby Live at Atlantic City 2009, I don't Wanna Cry live in Rotterdam Daydream World Tour 1996, Joy to the world live in St. John Divine 1994, Can't let go & If it's over SNL 1991, Vision of love & Make it happen Charmbracelet Tour Zurich 2003
I looove Mariah's music post-Emancipation especially her last studio album Caution!
I enjoyed this video, so glad you included the Patti Labelle tribute.
Next, you should do some videos on Michael Jackson.
America The Beautiful (1990) was her first live performance ever at an NBA game and it’s one of my favorite performances of her ever.
You're Mine (Eternal) BET 2014 because she was singing while laying down on the piano! 🎹🎹🎹🎶
Not to blow your mind, but you may also have to consider doing a holiday version for songs like "Fall In Love at Christmas", "Joy to the World", "All I Want For Christmas Is You", and "Oh Holy Night"! 😂💯🐑✨
I'm so jealous that you'll get to hear those performances for the first time
also I recommend Vision of love - Charmbracelet tour Zurich 2003, very satisfying adlibs for VOL post 90s
YESSS!!! My favorite of her VOL performances! It was like the perfect mix of the agility, ease, and clarity of Daydream vocals with the fullness and depth to her maturing voice.
My all 2018 Singapore. You'll love it.
I'm so excited for this series OMG
Her "Can’t Let Go" SNL performance Is so perfect!! I get chills every time and her voice sounds so powerful.
So since everyone is recommending her biggest performances, I’ll recommend a few of the “hidden gems”, or at least the ones that I haven’t seen requested much. Though I’d prefer if u reacted to the FULL Tokyo dome 1996 concert, u should at LEAST do…
- “forever” (I’m actually FLABBERGASTED NO ONE MENTIONED FOREVER ITS ONE OF HER MOST INSANE SONGS OF ALL TIME VOCALLY and ik I said forever specifically at Tokyo dome but u could also do live at Rotterdam 1996), “vision of love”, “anytime u need a friend”, and “I don’t wanna cry” too maybe.
-MSG 1995 “make it happen”
- “Vanishing” live at MSG 1993
-“emotions” live at Des O Connor 1992 or Soul Train 1992, also if u don’t mind horrible quality live at Worcester 1993 and Rotterdam 1996
-“Vision of love” live at Zurich 2003 and London 1996, these are HANDS DOWN 2 of her BEST performances for that song of ALL TIME, like i don’t think any other VOL performance rlly matches up to them other than maybe the Oprah 1992 one, the only bad thing is that they’re both horrible quality but they’re there if ur interested!!
-“My All” live at Sydney 2013
-“I’ll be there” live at Sydney 2013
-“Surprise performance” 2013
-“Joy to the World” live at St John the Divine 1994
-“Yours” live at Today Show 2003
One Sweet Day with boyz 2 men live at BET 2001 is such an underrated gem but really good performance to study her voice and the changes
BET Blueprint 2005 also is a must see
Jamaica 2015 is also an insane moment to analyze
That Jamaica concert was 🔥
The clip at 6:06 can be found on TH-cam if you search Mariah Carey gives private performance for fans. It's sort of an improvisational piece, she is brilliant at crafting melodies and lyrics on the fly😍
Solid list for sure! I would add a few more that I haven't seen recommended yet, but are must-watches:
Vision Of Love - Mariah Carey (live at Zurich) 2003 - Charmbracelet Tour - One of her best vocals of this song and her tone here was gorgeous, full, and so clear 😍 She sounded so confident and free - I would describe her voice here as a mix of the ease and agility of Daydream era with the maturity and fullness of Glitter
A Home for the Holidays - 2001 (she sings a medley of Never Too Far & Hero, Reflections (care enough), and I'll Be There (ft. Trey Lorenz) - gorgeous tone and tasteful improvisations with runs and ad libs that we're not used to hearing bc she doesn't sing them exactly like the record
Joy To The World (Live Disney Christmas Parade 2004) - the one she sang at St.
We Belong Together (Live at MTV Movie Awards 2005) - flawless and the climax hit harder live than on the record
The entire Angels Advocate concert - 2010 (especially Make it Happen) - would make a great comparison for her singing the same songs in the early 90s (i.e., MTV Unplugged, NBC Thanksgiving Special, Tokyo Dome, etc.) to her stellar rendition in 2010
Can't Let Go - Live (Arsenio Hall 1991 or Soul Train Awards 1992) - flawless!
My All - Singapore 2018 (a more recent one; stellar vocals; her tone was so beautiful and clear here!)
Beyonce actually has said the reason she wanted to sing was Mariah Carey and that she started doing more melismas in her music because she was inspired by her.
one of my absolute favs is BET vision of love performance! definitely look it up
Cant Let Go/If Its Over - SNL 1992 (her vocals on this day are CRAZY). Literally, its so raw and powerful. You have to watch it;
Joy To The World 1994 - at the Christmas Concert;
Endless Love with Luther is amazing as well (any live performance)
Also We Belong Together Live 8
I would add, hero tokyo dome 96, butterfly 97 (letterman and snl), christmas in washington 2010 and vision of love 2003 zurich concert
UNDERAPPRECIATED (but holds strong today); Chain Of Fools (Divas Live duet with Aretha Franklin). Mariah was not feeling well, but pulled this vocal from the pits of her soul. SO!GOOD!)
Yessss and the undubbed too, she’s louder in that but the “weeeekend” wasn’t as good as the dubbed.
Madison square garden concert in 1995 or at least the Make It Happen performance
and also Joy to the world 1994 in St. John Divine or in an Argentina show please!! It can be argued that 1994 is her best year vocally because it has the richness of 1993 but the agility and tone of 1995-1996
I would also highly recommend Vanishing in the 1993 Music Box tour at NYC MSG
The way NO ONE mentioned "Never Too Far/Hero" Medley (NYC Hall Park 2001).
My All - RWT Milan 2000.
Also, if you want a bunch of rare footage, check out Mariah Station Concerts. They've been buying and posting footage of the Butterfly World Tour for the last few months.
Make sure you watch Tokyo Dome undubbed
Tokyo Dome undubbed isn't available.
You already have 3 of my favorite performances:
If It's Over - power, just pure vocal acrobatic
If only you knew/ somewhere over the rainbow - musicality, mellisma or runs that stay true to the melody
You and I - low notes galore, the first and only performance where her lower register was the highlight
One vocal coach also alluded that she exhibits mastery of mic technique.
You could also dive into one of the most talked about phenomenon in the lambily, which is the discourse of how Mariah’s tone completely changed form music box - daydream - butterfly and how the lighter tone in daydream could’ve affected her voice
And if you really wanna go into how Mariah’s voice change maybe wait a few days cause she’s got a new residency in Vegas and she’s gonna sing songs that she has never sang before.
Watch All I Want For Christmas with Michael Bublé, her runs are soooo precise and crisp here.
Apart from the stuff mentioned from the 90s and 2000s you should do things from the 2010s!!! She has some wonderfulll performances from the 10s
There is stuff from Vegas and the Caution Tour and the 2014 Beacon Christmas Show that are just spectacular!!
These are my absolute favs 😊🧡:
Make It Happen - Madison Square Garden 1995
Joy to the World - Disney Christmas Parade 2004
I Don't Wanna Cry - Tokyo Dome 1996
Emotions - MTV Unplugged
You have to start with her FIRST NATIONAL TV PERFORMANCE of America The Beautiful (1990)...literally shook the whole Palace!
Make it Happen Tokyo Dome! This is a highlight
TOKYO DOME during the daydream era.
& truly the entire DayDream tour was a BREATHTAKING DISPLAY OF UNMATCHED TALENT.
Vision of Love Jamaica 2015
all i want for christmas is you with michael buble her best live performance from the ealy 10’s and maybe best ever of AIWFCIS
Lol y'all killed this list if only you knew is my all time favorite

I'll stop before this gets out of control 😂
As for the changes in Mariah's voice, I still follow her. Mariah (tied with Beyoncé) is my favorite artist. I love all the eras of her music and the tones they've had. One of my favorite things about Mariah is that she has a new voice on each album

3. her insecurities/ bipolar medication/ social media basically made fun of her 2014------ (the disrespect)
4. vocal nodules
5. she's more free in the studio- she's an artist/ melody maker/ bg vocals queen/ sogwriter first
6. she chokes up and overthinks on stage- you can check her jamaica performance (highriah, shes more free) and her random singing when drunk or in the shower (vocalizinng with a vase/ bscott happy bday song etc) or at home... she has no issues using her voice
we have diff set of rules when it comes to the greats... people made fun of mj.. also nippy.. in her own words " im still good.. im still here"
just watched ur vid after typing 😅
its not presumptuous.. she said it a couple of times… stage fright etc
to quote her when someone questioned her voice during the #1s to infinity residency “if theres any confusion, theyre more than welcome to come sing w me in the shower” something to that effect and ends it w a diva smirk th-cam.com/video/WAf4_72vHPM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=vneErTe9ySdyanr0

This one isn't live but if you want your wig snatched please take a listen to
'Outside' best vocals.
I hope you can consider checking this performances I listed.
1) Without You- Sweet Sweet Fantasy 2016 (Oslo)
2) Against All Odds- Sweet Sweet Fantasy 2016 (Oslo)
3) Can't Take That Away 2003 (Costa Mesa)
4) Vision Of Love/Infinity Live on Billboard Awards 2015
5) Vision Of Love Live on Jimmy Kimmel 2017 (This is necessary to check because this after her New Year fiasco)
6) Vision Of Love 2015 in Jamaica (This is necessary to study because confidence contributes to Mariah's great performances. She was high from the smoke of the weeds when she performed this. She doesn't have any inhibitions. Many attempts of belts happened and this is I believe her 100% live singing of that song)
For me I'd include Love Takes Time and Make it Happen from Proctors Theatre in 1993 and at least Make it Happen from MSG in 1995
A literal Goddess
Vision of love live at bet
My saving grace live at oprah
National Anthem 2002 Superbowl 🦅🎶

You have to do the ABC merry christmas special when she was pregnant with dem babies. That o holy night was amazing
Mariah’s tribute to Stevie, You and I, for the low notes because they are so rich, her tone is exquisite. I love Mariah past and present. Her musicianship is unmatched. ❤❤❤
Vision of Love - Musix box tour 1993, her belting was top notch, and showed her true musicality.
AIWFCIY live Jimmy Fallon 2012! It’s completely acoustic
Vision of love, Zurich 2002/3 (video is horrible but her resonance was something else!!!!!!)
Any performance from her Zurich date during charmbracelet world tour
Yours today show 2003
They should have said Vision of Love from BET Blueprint
All of these 100%. Also add Vanishing rehearsal at SNL. I really like the quarantine era vocals. Check out We belong together late night Valentine's mix performance and the 2020 version of Vision of Love on Good Morning America. And almost anything impromptu, there is a jazz performance of her in a club standing next to a piano, oh and the duet with Michael Bolton if you haven't heard that.
