This scene makes me tear up EVERY time I see it. A lot of parents push their insecurities and short comings onto their children. Shoot down their dreams before they even get started. Message was so powerful. I know it hit home for a lot of people.
Don't ever let somebody tell you... You can't do something. Not even me. You got a dream... You gotta protect it. People can't do something themselves, they wanna tell you you can't do it. If you want something, go get it. Period. ❤️
3 weeks ago before our finals exam here in the Philippines.I was like doubting that there is no way that i could pass the test but then my friends told me to watch this when I watched this part I had my faith restored and I had the courage to face all the challenges. And now I am turning grade 8 this coming school year.
this scene still gives me the goosebumps, dont ever let somebody tell you cant do something...you want something go and get it. PERIOD! i try to live by those words every single day...whenever i have those really shitty and meaningless days i look up these on youtube and it just helps me a lot, life is shitty lets face it...life is gonna knock you down and its okay but what's not okay is when you let life keep you down
Good job man. I'm 20 years old and I am suffering from the same thing. I've got no confidence in myself even when I am good or better at something than somebody else.
Chris Gardner: Hey. Don't ever let somebody tell you you can't do something. Not even me. All right?Christopher: All rightChris Gardner: You got a dream. You gotta protect it. People can't do something themselves, they wanna tell you you can't do it. If you want something, go get it. Period.
I used to watch this all the time with my mom and I was always afraid that my dad would tell me to not do what I wanna do but the final quote was more powerful
After watching this movie, i wrote this for a facebook status: We always get to choose different roads in life, just make sure you have chosen the right one, Even though sometimes you just cant make sure you did, Remember to chose what makes you happy because that is probably the right one.
"You'll probably be about as a good as I was, that's kinda the way it works" I can't tell you how much I've heard this kind of mentality from my parents 🙄 To hear it in words like this I'm glad I didn't listen to them & give up on my dream of starting my own business :D
every time I feel like changing my major I watch this movie and it motivates me to follow my dream of becoming a civil engineer, and no matter what I will accomplish my dream!!
before i watched this scene i never thought that you can decide for urself what you can acheive noone else can and thats so goddamn true this movie is beautiful!
Yep man,it's true.I've also come closer with such difficulties in my career that i can't even describe but till today happines doesn't still come-(Sometimes I think that going on thousands of different Interview in different places - is my work but nobody pays me a salary for that....But I belive GOD won't leave all this such way!!
Amazing, inspiritational, so true; love it brings a tear to the eye, then again that's this film all over. Wish I could be as a good a dad as he was (Ya it's a true story), stick through thick and thin, Will Smith is the best actor ever, and he plays it so well fully shows his immense determination and love for his child, so glad it was him playing the part.
Since i left the comment i did see this movie. Oh My is was great just like everybody said. I knew that was his son in the movie already. I wish i didn't wait so long to see it. Thanks so much!
Because it isn't a true story about them it is a true story based on the life of a man named Chris Gardener that's why you can't find it cuz they were never homeless
after watching this movie i followed my dreams and recently sold a % share of my company for 200 million dollars, don't let anybody tell you that you can't do something :)
Chris Gardner: Hey. Don't ever let somebody tell you you can't do something. Not even me. All right?Christopher: All rightChris Gardner: You got a dream. You gotta protect it. People can't do something themselves, they wanna tell you you can't do it. If you want something, go get it. Period.
Today I was going to the bank to talk about my Buissiess. On the way there I meet an old friend, we talked and he doubted me. I went in to the bank and the banker was highly skeptical of what I was doing. I felt bad the whole day until I found this video. Never ever give up. Believe in yourself
I can't believe that Will Smith wears the suit in the whole movie. This movie was around since I was 4. 2006 was 11 years ago. Will Smith was 38. And Jaden Smith was 8. That's simular like saying Charming and Artie have the Same hair and the same colored hair.
I WATCHED THIS WITH MY ADVISORY STUDENTS AT SCHOOL AND ALL OF THEM STARTED DOING GOALS RIGHT AFTER THE VIDEO WAS DONE. I DIDN'T EVEN HAVE TO SAY ANYTHING BECAUSE CHRIS SAID IT ALL. "DON'T LET ANYBODY STOP YOU FROM PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS." THEN WE ALL DID THE SURVEY ON THE QR CODE!!!!!! #BLESSED #BBALLDREAMS #BONEBISON #INSPIRED
every time I watch this scene when I play this movie for the "xx"th time or just watch this video on youtube - I always wanna cry so badly... and I'm 20 y/o guy. this is something beyond me, it tears me apart from the inside. this is the true power of words
Actually, i went to look for this place in San Francisco ChinaTown, and it was a beautiful day. I can't believe i found it, it makes this scene so much more special. Although i had to maneuver my way around the gates, this place was locked on a Saturday afternoon! But nice and quiet place in Chinatown. Great view while making three pointers from the top of the key. I am so blessed.
i'm trying to find this basketball court, there's no information on it and i live in San Francisco, beautiful scene as well. I want to just play some basketball there and feel the emotion inside the cage. I'm struggling in finding my purpose and pursuit in life and i believe finding this court will give me some insight. I mean this video alone has given me hope in life at times and i feel this court has a very special power. It resembles more than a basketball court.
I'm doing something constructive with my life, especially after serving a combat tour in Iraq. I don't consider myself "posh" as you stated. However, if it makes you feel better to criticize and ridicule me, then go ahead. I wish you the best.
This scene makes me tear up EVERY time I see it. A lot of parents push their insecurities and short comings onto their children. Shoot down their dreams before they even get started. Message was so powerful. I know it hit home for a lot of people.
Go get it !!!
This is one of the most powerful, inspirational scenes from a movie that I have scene between a Father and son.
It is a great scene.
I always get back to this scene whenever I feel negativity around me. Also the scene in Rocky where he tells his kid what life is all about 👍🏼
Don't ever let somebody tell you... You can't do something. Not even me. You got a dream... You gotta protect it. People can't do something themselves, they wanna tell you you can't do it. If you want something, go get it. Period. ❤️
One of my favorite scenes of all time.

I think the world should make it a law to have every parent have this exact conversation with their kids and embed this message in them. Period!

Good job man. I'm 20 years old and I am suffering from the same thing. I've got no confidence in myself even when I am good or better at something than somebody else.

Chris has Powerful Words for It.
HE WAS SO ADORABLE
I highly recommend reading the book.
After seeing this scene I decided to do his monologue at acting school and convey the emotions.

If this is a true movie I still didn't find out if will smith and jaden smith were homeless
Because it isn't a true story about them it is a true story based on the life of a man named Chris Gardener that's why you can't find it cuz they were never homeless

Something about the pacing or style of this scene feels way off to me

where in San Francisco is this place?
+kobefan0622 it's the chinese (willie woo) playground in chinatown. On Sacramento st. between Stockton and Grant.
Great movie! i made a music video too this song. check it out! :)
there's an american flag on the right
Same but i decided to sell crack instead and make millions
i love how chris immediately realized his mistake because of his son's reaction. such a good scene
AGREED
I quite like how Chris looked ashamed of himself when telling his son this lesson. Takes a bit of strength to admit you were wrong like that.
Powerful Words! inspiring! this is based on true story

Every child needs a father like that. This scene is so powerful and emotional.
TRUE!
