-- *The Man Who Knew infinity (2015)* true story of Srinivasa Ramanujan, the brilliant Indian mathematician who grew up in poverty in Chennai and had no formal maths education, but earned a scholarship to Cambridge University where he produced groundbreaking new theorems.

Just watched "Ramanujan" (2014) film, and what was in this film that wasn't included in "the man who knew infinity" was that he tried to commit closed airways via train, fortunately he survived i.e. the du saw the duu on the floor, they both knew what he was doing, so he stopped the train and saved ramanujan. 👽
I don't know why Ramanujan's mother is against him and his wife, though. Is it because he went to a foregin country which kinda conflicts with their belief? it's like doing something, but in order to do that something you gotta do something that's considered unlawful or somet like dat. However, another guy said to another guy that he has been london, i.e. need not worry about their belief, as they had to ask for forgiveness to their goddess for crossing the sea.

My favorite part of Hidden Figures is the scene integrating the women's restroom. This is an important lesson on how to overcome institutional prejudice. Once the White Male project manager realized that segregated women's restrooms was hurting his team's productivity, down went the signs and the barriers. If suppression of rights can be shown to actually be hurting the oppressor, they are suddenly much more open to change.

The Man Who Knew Infinity. In the mathematical community, this is the best. Faithful to the true biography of one of the top mathematicians of the 20th century. Ramanujan was right up there with John Nash for sure, almost at the level of a Grothendieck or Hilbert. "A Beautiful Mind" was a cringeworthy movie for those who really knew the story of John Nash and his accomplishments. Good Will Hunting shouldn't be on the list at all, mathematics was a marginal theme at best and they didn't write about it with any kind of real understanding.

    • @dongraham4760

There is a 1951 movie called "No Highway in the Sky" starring James Stewart as a quirky obsessed aeronautical engineer who predicts a new model of airplane will suffer a catastrophic failure after a certain number of operating numbers. Don't recall that it focuses on the math so much, but it's there. The basic theme is the same as the movies shown here: genius has to battle the odds to prove what others are unable or unwilling to understand.

That machine the Gal is using is a Comptometer, to uses it you had use two hand and it could only add up or count down (addition and division). Two multiply you had to select the required digits with both hands and repeatedly press all the keys at the same time.
Later style machine had a rotating handle which wound clockwise and anti clockwise to add, subtract, multiply and divide and a shift key. To cut down on how often you had t0 wind the handle there were short cut you could use.
To multiply x 9, you entered the number, would the handle anti clockwise to subtract the number once, then shift left once and wind the number once adding ten times the number to the result. (- 1 times the number, shift and then add 10 tomes the number = 10 -1 = 9). I used one of these in my Cost Accounting Department in the early 1960s
When the the space programme started hand held calculator were available, A HP calculator was used in the capsules sent to the moon for navigation and landing, Comptometers were no longer in use, the operators were one of the best paid jobs in a company and there would be dozens of these operators in one room. The noise created was enough to make you deaf. No Health and safety regulations in that age!

A Brilliant Mind? If you meant A Beautiful Mind, it's #2.
EDIT: ah, I guess you meant A Brilliant Young Mind! Looks pretty good, I'll have to check it out.

Watching this video reminds me of my grandmother and my father who told me that I could do anything in life if I just put my mind to it. Just think and if will come.
