Hiya, ex-Palia dev here (got axed in the second wave in April), and just wanted to say I really appreciate you highlighting this in a video, it means a lot. Been enjoying your content for a while! Palia has been a labor of love and I, as well as all my coworkers, put our heart and soul into the game, and even with all its flaws I hope that still shows. (RIP to all the bug tickets I didn't get to) I wish I shared your optimism for the game's longevity. The amount of devs laid off and work lost because of those devs being axed is concerning, and frankly disgusting. Either way you slice it, I hope you're right, and Palia continues to flourish for years to come.

It's so sad to think that one poor business decision (having free to play and making money only by selling premium outfits) effects so many. Palia is a great game - it would easily have sold. Thank you so much for all your hard work
Ex-Palia dev as well and was hit by the latest round :( Agree word for word with Invader_Roxas. It truly was something I was passionate about working on every day. That's not something I can say about every game project I've worked on in my career. I really hope the world we created for yall to enjoy continues well into the future.

I personally feel that their cash shop needs a revamp. $35-40 per outfit is absurd and mind-blowingly excessive. I've spent money just to support them before, but even so, I still balk at the cash shop prices instinctively. Most people will balk at those kind of prices, even for real-world clothing. If they made the outfits and customization options more affordable, maybe $5-10 per outfit, I guarantee you that WAY more people would purchase from their in-game store than they do currently. Even casual players who try not to spend in online games will see a price like that and think "hey that's only $5, I'll get it!"
There are at least 5 outfits in their cash shop that I want, but I absolutely cannot justify paying $150 for that. That's half the price of buying a second Nintendo Switch! I could get 3-5 additional video games for that price! I could get an entire YEAR of World of Warcraft for that price!

@@jessicamiller7076 yup. My first outfit I bought as a single outfit and I got it on sale. So I paid no more than $7 or $8.
The bundles seem to be $25 - $30 at their cheapest without sale. But that’s 3 whole outfits (some including hats and/or sunnies) with 3 color combos. Plus you can mix and match. I understand that that might still be to expensive for some but folks need to understand you’re not paying $25-35 for one outfit in one color.
That said the best time to buy is when they’re on sale. However, I don’t think they’re going to put their most popular outfits on sale. Just saying.
I feel it’s misleading to say it’s 3 outfits when it’s really not. Sure there are minor details changed but it’s overall the same outfit and you pay for color swatches which is crazy to me. If they are going to make outfits so expensive they should at least do all the usual swatches (like all non premium clothes have). But yeah this has been my opinion since day one. Reduce the cost and more people will want to buy which seems like more over all 🤷♀️
I just got the season pass for Diablo 4 for example, and $10 gets you loads of cosmetics and other interesting stuff that you can unlock while playing. It's quite funny that a company who's known to be greedy can somehow see the light, but these developers can't see past their own noses.
I wish they would make merch, because if they introduced NPC figurines and Sernuk plushies, TAKE MY MONEY!!

Honestly I started playing a week or so ago, and I think Palia has a great concept, and the story is going somewhere. Sadly, the upkeep of any company is hard in the present economic climate, but I believe this game will succeed for more than one reason.
On one hand, it's visual and literal storytelling is very engaging and can make people want to push forward and unveil things, and hopefully if there is more content to come, it will further the intrigue.
On another hand the cozy aspect of grinding things together with other players and the mechanics of growing one's life inside the game is also engaging. Hell, it got my friends to play the game as well.
There are a lot of interesting systems and a lot of positive and safe spaces for players, and hopefully, these layoffs are temporary rather than anything else.
With that said, I do appreciate your videos, and this one as well, keeping players updated. You're doing an awesome job and thank you for your continuous work! Have an amazing day!.

I can't believe you're not a partner. Your information is fantastic, yoru community is active and growing. This makes no sense. Bring back players: the item plot limit. Farming. increase gardening plots.

As a Palia Partner, we’ve advocated for him, but even the Palia Partnership program has been affected by this. I imagine they likely won’t take on new partners until things have stabilized.

I feel like we need more to do in a day, give us something to accomplish daily. The weekly achievements are great, but I finish them within the day most of the time. The cosmetics such as the double decker house, and parking are a great start, but I will scream it from the rooftops: MORE CLUTTER ITEMS. A lot of people that I see decorate in this game, myself included would love to have books or put on our shelves, have it so we make paper or but it from Tish because we have leather we could make books, or let us buy them Caleri! Up the item limit for plots, up the flower limit for plots, I understand it’s there for Switch players, but they could do something similar to Disney Dreamlight where they allow you to switch on a PC mode that allows more items to be placed also GIVE US AN ITEM COUNTER. I’d like to see how close I am to the item placement limit esp with trees counting as items! I think a new area to discover with new NPCs would bring people back for sure, I’m not even saying a whole village full of NPCs, but like three or four , with a new area to discover, new animals to hunt, bugs, fish, craftable recipes, opening a new area give us so much to explore and so many things to be added! Also Hot Pot pls.
I work full time and unwind at the end of the day with a little bit of game play. There’s enough to keep me busy. Don’t need more to do but it depends on how much time one spends in a game right. It’s great as it is. I’m sure whatever the team has planned will be great 😊 thank you to all your hard work S6 and devs!!
From what I heard, ex devs can’t talk about it due to NDAs they had to sign. But apparently it’s BAD. And there was a lot of shock over the layoffs, nasty surprised and mistreatment. Ever since hearing that, I’m not feeling so good about the game. And from the comments, it sounds like what I heard is true 😅
I do believe they fired people because they can’t keep the game afloat financially.
Thanks Perzival! I love this game. I feel the next big thing Singularity 6 can do is to release the Elderwoods: more quests, more bugs/fish/creatures, more NPCs...to keep the longevity going. I love all the house updates etc and new items are always great to find etc. Oh...and the other big thing? Muujin plushies?? ;-) The sernuk hunting for plushies was SOOO cool. Thanks for your great content and for allaying some fears. It's a difficult time for all of us just now, but we have to keep trusting the future's going to turn out OK. This is from a Zen Life Coach!! :-) We are where we are. So support, kindness and compassion is the order of the day (and everyday). Gratitude to Singularity 6 for having the game in the first place. I feel for the developers who have lost their jobs and will wish their future will also turn out OK (I'm sure it will).
I started playing Palia a few weeks ago and I am truly in love with it, and I hope the developers won't stop working on it, because it has potential and it's so unique to me, thanks for your video!
Palia is my very first MMO game. I have no personal knowledge of of other MMO games to compare it to. I love the artwork and that is what sucked me in. I don't want to play cartoon characters. I want to play real people even if they are dressed as a frankfurter. I enjoy playing every day even if I don't have a current quest open. There is still so much for me to do. I don't want to see this game fail.

"This is the second round of layoffs." Correction, this is the third! One last in fall of 2023, one April 4th, and this last one.
And a bunch of people saw the writing on the wall and left between rounds 2 and 3.
Palia needs physical merch. Plushie’s, soft throws and items found in the game like Caleri’s pen etc.
The same way S6 is experiencing this economic situation… so are we. I have spent approximately $65+ on cosmetic bundles. Happy to do so but at the same time that is approximately the same cost for TOTK. A whole finished game.
People are afraid to spend money and have nothing to show for it at the end of the day. This is why they NEED, imo, physical merch as an option for community support.
And from a more…mercenary pov. Should, Dragon forbid, S6 close up shop, the physical merch might become collectors items.
They need to make cosmetics CHEAPER. If outfits were $5-7 I would have already spent $30+. But when ONE outfit is $30 I just can't stomach spending that much money on one arrangement of pixels. I am a frugal person. Spendint $30 makes me stop and think about it, but $5-7?.... I'd buy those outfits up in a heartbeat.
Why do y’all keep saying $30 for one outfit. It’s $30 for the set of 3 which is a bundle. If you just buy one from the set it’s more affordable. Plus, they have sales and that’s when I purchase 1 outfit. Also, I know they may not have sales on their best sellers which I understand.
@@RayBMore. The mushroom outfit with the huge mushroom hat is nearly $30 for one color way. In order to get enough credits for it I would need to spend at least $30 bc of the way credits are bundled. And then once I buy it I'm left with an amount of credits that isn't enough to buy anything else. That may have changed bc I haven't looked at the breakdown in a bit but the last time I checked that's how things broke down.
OK, SO I JUST READ THE PATCH UPDATES.oops dang caps! Kind of excited about them. Sadly, while doing their best, S6 is still missing out on a few things, such as reduced premium clothing or more affordable monthly bundles. If they do not open their own merch sales they are crazy! Selling plushies, mugs, even mouse pads and maybe some framed art. There is a plethora they could do there to make some money. They could also charge for the over all game, a one time retroactive fee. I know I will have more thoughts on this after re-reading and consideration. What do you all think?
They ARE doing affordable monthly bundles though. Last 3 weeks they’ve been doing 35% off certain two premium clothing sales, that they cycle through every week. And they’re giving cheaper clothing too, one piece being 480 coins I believe. They are trying and testing the waters, but if people don’t buy those, they won’t test the waters more. That’s generally how it works.
As for opening own merch; they sadly have to put the money into making merch first which can be expensive in the beginning. and also pay people to ship the stuff too. Quite a big investment in the beginning and profits go back into making more merch until you get enough.
@@RowanWolf22They could test with a small batch to see how it sells with the players. Even small youtubers can sell merch so can S6
I don't like that layoffs are being seen as normalized in the game industry. Usually, for developers that are needed short-term, they are responsibly contracted out for a specific period of time and they know when their time working at a studio will eventually expire, not dropped like a sack of potatoes when it's convenient to balance the studios' books. As for what it will take to get more people to keep playing Palia I think there needs to be new things to do, not just adding stuff on existing mechanics. I would like a way to acquire every item from Zeki's shop myself, through ranching and new items to grow and other mechnics. Also more community-centric mechanics and activities that are not just grinding materials. Sometimes it feels like with Palia, for the sake of being cozy and avoiding trolls, interactions are very limited and superficial between strangers and they need to embrace a little bit of chaos if they want Palia to be more of a social game.

Thanks for the video. I always enjoy them. For me, the game needs more life. Animals for your plot, NPCs running around, maybe a plot event kinda like the chappa chase where you get swarmed by chapa and have to catch them to remove them from your plot. You could do that with the deer and wolves. There is a ton of ideas people have come up with they could implement.
Also, No way am I going to spend more money on a game that refuses to be reasonable about item shop prices.
Initially I loved Palia. Then I just stopped playing as I am not a skilled player and never seemed to earn enough in-game coin to get stuff. I never saw anything when I played that would allow me to actually purchase with real money.
To bring back players/keep the momentum going: We need daily tasks/achievements for sure. We need community revamp. We (always) need lore. We need hotpot back. We need something exciting/new/different like a new skill - perhaps potion making, flow magic, something!
Given this news, i really hope they will take a closer look at their premium store. I think they could generate a lot more revenue to help keep development going if the items were priced much more modestly. I think $5-$10 for outfits would sctually see the premium store bring in a lot more money overall. It would also be good PR wise. I think a lot of new players get the wrong idea when they see $40 purchases in the store.
Im sure plenty of people have already said this before and im sure singularity 6 have heard it. It just baffles me that we still havent seen them budge on this point after all this time.
First off, can't believe you aren't a Palia partner!!! Secondly, I'm deeply upset over these layoffs and all the doomsday talk going around. I really appreciate this video. I went down that rabbithole yesterday for hours and just broke down in tears. I've never been this attached to a game before. Then I was mad at myself that I've spent so much on clothing.. but you know what I did this morning after another round of tears?.. I looked at my chapaa plushie sitting on my desk and went and bought some more Palia coins. LOL, Dammit,...this can't happen!!
I'm so excited for Hotpot coming to the Underground. I can't wait for the pathing and the 2 story harvest house!! I'm so thrilled we are going to be able to buy skins for our tools. I think they just need to give us more to do. I remember YEARS ago I played Rift when it first came out and they had "shinies" you hunted for in the game. Man, I was shiny crazy. I loved that. I also was an OG WoW player and I loved to grind for rare pets. I spent hours killing fireflies and swashbucklers in Booty Bay. I was so happy when I found out plushies were dropping from the sernuk in the game. IMO we could use more of that but maybe more along the pet line. (Maybe a new animal to kill... birds would be neat.) But I miss the rare pet drops of WoW and being able to have them as pet. We just need some time-sinks and cool rare stuff to find.
I wish this game had never gone FTP. I would have paid for it and bought battle passes. I'm praying that this time next year I will still be able to see my toon in all her pretty clothing.

I quit playing Palia after the last update. Anytime I log in now, it just completely freezes, and I have to do a hard restart on my computer only for it to happen again and again. I've looked at everything and done pretty much everything I could to have it not do that, but it just keeps happening. I love the game so much, but this really put a damper on my game play.
I found out if you have 2 virus programs on at the same time that will cause crashes repeatedly. My friend was using a another program on top of the windows program and as soon as she turned off her second program it works fine. I don’t know if this is what’s going on with your computer just putting the info here it may help you or someone else.

I have loved Palia ever since I started playing it a short time before it was released on Steam. I was sad when the lay-offs happened and do hope that this doesn't mean bad things for the development of the game in the future. I've heard that you are right about the hotpot making an appearance in the underground and I do buy things from the store when I can afford to, they have some really cute outfits!
It’s my favourite game ever! I log in every day and enjoy the peace and serenity of developing my plots, interacting with other players, the resource grind (it’s fun and rewarding (, and doing quests or building relationships with NPCs. The game fulfils a need for me that I don’t get anywhere else. Plus I love the community!!! There isn’t anything out there that would replace or match it, so I’ll do my part in keeping it going, I hope others do too 😁
I adore Palia! I also play DDLV but currently prefer Palia. I can get lost in that game for hours. For the first time I got to be part of a flow tree raid and it was a blast! I just wish I could figure out how to get to the top of Windy Ruins!
There is something lacking in design lately. Like their only way of monetization is character outfits, and some designs are nice but the swatches are horrible. Also, thy are taking way too long with introducing new stories and locations, It's been almost a year since the start of Open Beta, I can navigate both maps with my eyes closed...
I think it would be neat if a community plot had bonuses for stuff, like if you harvest veggies from the community garden it gave you an exp bonus to all community members for a short period of time, or some kind of community tasks that all members can do whenever they are online to give bonuses.
A lot of the Palia players in the communities I belong to also play Disney Dreamlight valley which had a big update drop on may 1st and now have an event as well. I think some of these players bounce between ddv and Palia.
Something ive seen many people saying before. And I think so too... Make the outfits cheaper.. I COMPLETELY understand that they need us to buy it, as it is the only way they make money.. But I cant justify spending 47 euro + in a single outfit (with 3 color swatches) If they made them cheaper, I am certain I would have spend more money than I have now.. And I probably have already spend more then 60 tbh just buying other outfits.. But 47 on 1 outfit.. No.. With them being cheaper you can also buy more and then be more creative with how you put the combinations together.
Did you know you can buy only one outfit out of a bundle? I do that a lot especially when they on sale

Most of the developers let go were salaried afaik, not contracted.
I did good that bit up. When I wrote my script, I meant to say from developers I personally knew that work in the gaming industry were contracted and they were the first to go and I feel that’s usually the case.
My own personal observations, the palia "partners" can use a serious revamp, the majority of them aren't even streaming Palia, and off doing other things.
One of them was absolutely horrid to a player who hosted their cake party for them, the partner let everyone and their housecat sign up, with promises of "we'll show you how to do things". the Partner didn't help once, the poor host was running it solo, their first time, and then a couple of hiccups with people losing connection and when we finally got stable and ready to go, we go about 10 cakes in, and the partner just dipped the heck out "It's time for the stream to end, See you later!".....just left the host in the dust.
Of course the party fell apart and the host was so embarrassed and hurt. They didn't deserve any of that.
That "partner" should have never been made a partner.

wanted to add, I love dont have to pay, and the clothes you gfet for free are pretty good, I like them, and did buy some clothes I didnt mind becuase to help them out,. i agree some are very pricy, some are pricey and the appearance not worth the price, i would even use if was free. I do appreciate the work, so if something is decent, i will get, especially if a part of the outfit goes will with some other piece.

i just saw that they announced more pets and tool skins and this is something i will absolutely buy. i wish they would also add mounts. i think a good incentive to actually play and grind would be hard to earn pets/mounts/outfits. not too many (bc obviously they will still want people to purchase) but maybe just one for maxing out each skill or collecting every single gem or something
I’d actually like extra planting ground in palia (rn the max of soil patches are 9 if it where to increase to a seartain degree it would be mutch more fun for the farmers (3more is litarly already the best)
Thank you for the video Perzival. I have not been this upset over a game since they tried to close yoville (now YoWorld). I am trying my hardest to be hopeful. I just wish S6 would implement a lot of the great suggestions made by the community. I will be supporting the game regardless. I just need them to 5 items in the shop that’s cheap and see how many players but it. Then they will have a more accurate test from players.
I love Palia, and stoped palia, not cause of content, just I have ADHD, and while this game is great for it, I also play others, like Hogwarts Legacy, Fortnite (doing quests and stuff) even other games I havent finished. I do so much enjoy the game and plan to return to playing. i will have to add you Twitch and Discord as well. I mean still go quests to finish :D
I use to play Palia and still like it. Sad they had to lay off so many people. I wish they would add more of a trading system or combat system (nothing to extensive). Plenty of “cozy” games like star dew valley, have a very light combat system and it’s still cozy. I know a lot of people do not want more of a trading system, but I wouldn’t mind it. If they could do more events too other then the maji market that would be fun! While I do not care for any game with heavy micro transactions, just not sure if what they have in place is enough to keep the game afloat financially. One of the main things for me that was a turn off is how much of a grind for coins and other things.
my issue with Palia is that i have been bugged on the temple of the winds quest, multiple tickets and no response. so I stopped supporting .
I’ve always said on the official discord that I’m in this for the long haul. I am hopeful that the game will expand at the pace they feel it needs to be. Whilst a new zone would be a cool patch, maybe one is planned to fit the next step in the main line quest or the one after that. There are at least two potential exit points in north bahari bay and the top secret inaccessible area in our home plots which are likely planned for one of the future updates.
Don’t look at the data mining if you don’t want spoilers BUT, a very wanted area IS coming, definitely this year. It’s progressed quite a bit.

Sooo, I loved Palia and enjoyed playing so much when it originally launched. However at some point after the festivals and events I don't really enjoy how grindy it can feel. I only ever login now for festivals or events. Anytime there's a new money making schemed its quickly removed or adjusted but for me personally a cozy game should be just that, cozy. Grinding out to make so much money, complete quests with furniture I can't even sell, and no fun mini games(such as hotpot, chappa chase, etc) I just don't want to login to grind out stuff for money when I already do that day to day just to put food on my irl table. I have faith for the game but it's still lacking a lot, mostly in the multiplayer aspect.
I still cant believe Palia is a free download! Been loving it since I found it on switch a few months back.. In support of it, im more than happy to buy a couple outfit packs / glider packs to support the game.. Normally new games on switch are £40 - £50 in the UK, so £14 on some Palia coins is nothing compared to that!
I really love this game. Its beautiful. I know its in early access, but there are so many bugs, that were taking so long to fix before the lay off. I dont see how the game will be supported on even less staff. Ive taken long breaks from the game and lost interest in part due to the bugs. I have supported thr devs by buying clothes in the shop twice. But honestly I dont see how they justify charging what they do per outfit. Ive spent nearly $100 I should have a lot more clothing than i do in the game.
I don’t think palia is going to fail (right the opisaid ) all the grinders /peaceful players and skill loving players that there is also a level up system + story lovers like my sister love this game!(she finds it the best game EVER!!

Maybe something that may not happen. But i would be happy if i was able to run my own store and sell somethings. You know help others out but also make the much needed money to upgrade and buy things.
I think merch and relationship decay would be so useful. Like now I'm maxed out with all NPC's I don't need to speak to them but I think if relationships decayed through lack of interaction would help engagement. I think with the level 5s that were added there wasn't too much content there to warrant coming back cos you only needed to talk to the level 5s if already maxed out.

Why do people get mad that a fun, free game needs funds to survive??? I think the premium store is expensive, but I'd rather support at least a LITTLE so the game doesn't go under like Knockout City did. That was my favorite while it was online, so I can't even imagine losing Palia now!

Layoffs in gaming are very common, yes... but S6 insists Palia is still in "open beta." You don't do multiple rounds of layoffs at this stage. That's a *terrible* sign. IMO, this game will shut down before ever officially leaving beta. Which is a shame, because it had SO much potential. It was just never what they advertised it to be and the studio kinda doomed itself with the false advertising and ignoring years of alpha feedback.
("Open beta" was functionally their full release launch, it's just convenient for S6 to still call it a beta so they can hide behind that label for all the bugs, flaws, and incredibly limited content.)
There is only so much you can do in this heavy-handed game before it gets repetitive. I had a good time for about a month and a half before I completed everything. There are other games to enjoy and better games coming. The controlled economy in Palia is dreadful. No real free trading with friends, 81 plants, 300,000 coin cap, and on and on. The key phrase that describes Palia in the end is "Restricted to".

How were all his potatoes start quality without cotton?
I don’t understand what the cotton part is about, but his crops were star cause he planted star crops, plus his gardening level is high.

Outside that, the game is very unfocused. You can see them leaning towards an agenda, but everything in the game counters it at the same time. The characters stories are weak, and, there is no consequence. You can literally choose the worst and rudest choices, and it means nothing to the point of hilarity. You also get the fact, none of these NPCs, except maybe Najuma, are really good people if you pay attention, and the PC is forced in with them.
My latest laugh was the lore for the war with Azuma's lvl 5 friendship quest. I read it wan was like, "are these people really that stupid?"

I understand why big companies lay off many people but small Singularity 6 😬 (maybe they work so ineffective ).

This is lame...they could have easily sold this game on steam at a low price and kept the talented employees on board so they could actually finish it and give it more content. As it is, I haven't played in months. It is not normal for studios to layoff, it is bad business practices. Great game that is now nothing but grinding to decorate a house. Dumb.

Palia is a Failure because Some intity geared this game towards rainbow people and it floped. Elderwoods was suposed to happen a long time ago.
