The commentary was done very well considering there were four runs going on simultaneously. They drew attention to each runner as they were doing specific techs. Super cool
When in was a kid I remember seeing torpedo ted in the credits...But not seeing it...Turns out I never played or got or knew how to get there

As a kid I never found Chocolate 2 secret exit, nor the Cape version of 2nd screen, and I never knew there were so many moons in the game.

This is pretty cool so far. Turns out I was using some of the speed run tactics without even realizing it haha. Like flying through the saws with Yoshi and over stages. Man this game is one of my favorite SNES titles. I have been really digging GDQ these last couple months. Found a random episode of this series and been binging it while playing Torchlight II. I love these races the best so far. Even if it is a bit hard to keep track of all the players. I don't think I have the skill/time to compete at this level at all, but it is nice to watch. Maybe I'll try out some of their tactics the next time I get a chance to play through this game again.

that glitch trumez goes for at 1:22:33 I did on accident once when I was playing smw and I thought it was the weirdest thing ever, I was in I think it's called vanilla dome 1 and there was a one block high space and I crouched in as big Mario and spammed spin jump and fell right into the platform, if the platform is only one block high though you just fall right through lol

These guys are in a Super Saiyan level, I've been running 96 Exit for a while and 2h is my best.
What exactly is the sticky fly trick? Is there a speed advantage when properly used or is it purely for swag?
the first time i got 100 on this game was the hardest of all.... until now i know about the chocolate wait phase.... I made it my life that phase without knowing why the second or the third phase of the level was different... i love this game

Around the 1:28:45 time one of the announcers makes a reference to 98 exits. He implies that you would have to use the orb glitch to get 98 exits but the player does not appear to be using the orb glitch as they don't have fire mario or an orb. He implies that you would need the orb glitch to get 96* on the US version and I know this is not true I have gotten 96* several times without the orb glitch. How do you get 98 exits on the Japan version as he does not appear to be using the orb glitch in the video?
I know there's one super complicated method for spawning the key and keyhole sprites on Funky for one of such secret exits...

What does "96 exit" means? what is an exit?

In Super Mario World every level has an exit (Goal), and it keeps track of those. Some levels also have 2 exits (goals), and the point of a 96 Exit race is to get every possible goal in the game.
I kept waiting for the secret Reznor in Forest Fortress. Is that not required for 96*?

because some levels have two exits and the category of this speedrun is "96 exit," meaning that to complete the run you must go through all 96 exits

Why does everyone loudly gasp there?
+Caleb Jaaniste (K-leb) I think it's because the runner in the top left jumped off of the green switch after hitting it. I remember another speedrunner saying that trick has a window of only a couple frames, so runners like to do it to show off to their audience.

why do they pass star world stages twice? it's easyer to pass just once getting the key
They have to actually touch the goal posts at the end of the level for the exits to count. Thing is, in Star World, the goal posts don't advance you. You have to find the key/secret exit for that to happen.
Since vthere are 2 exits and this run is the 96 exits run (i think you are starting to get it now) then that means they need to exit levels 96 times in total via either pole, key, wings or orb
