I met Sam around 2008-09, on the ice house canyon trail. My friend and I were probably an easy 40 -50 younger than him, and he would just cruise up the trail and had such a positive spirit
Some of these stories really hit hard. Thank you for your reverence in recounting these tales. Such impactful stories as these deserve an even broader audience.
Basically described every lake. We all need to understand that nature doesn't care about our safety, so we need to be smart and cautious when enjoying this beautiful world.
No, it doesn't describe every lake. When people flood an area without completely clearing it and being completely knowledgeable about how the terrain and the weather will affect the manmade lake, they are creating probable treacherous conditions. There's another lake that Jodi Benson lives on that's much the same only it was made by flooding abandoned towns and leaving everything in them, including trees, there. Can't remember the name of the lake, but it's deadly
Agreed. Every one. I do wish the inn owner had not allowed the James Kim to make that ill-fated reservation. And I wish he'd listened to his wife sooner.
Baldy is a tricky climb because of weather. On my hikes there, I always bring micro spikes or crampons and an ice axe. The same can be said of Mt Hood and many hikes in the High Sierra. Always carry basic survival gear-even on a day hike.
Balloon story seemed ridiculous; why not immediately descend to the ground regardless where? To fly for several more hours while the pilot hung underneath? Absolutely ludicrous.
why didn't guy hanging under the balloon explain to the crew to lower the balloon somewhere safe where he could let go and have a chance in living! Seems like the lady was able to do it successfully on her own. what did i miss?
It is an absolutely exhilarating experiece! Accidents are pretty rare, I highly encourage having the experience, nothing like it! Find a little one or two hour day excursion that serves champagne, you'll love it, I promise!
in that first story about lake Piru - it would seem like whoever was in charge or oversees the safety of those in and or around the water would have at some point and after people started to drown out there would and or should just take charge and figure out a part of the lake that was safe enough to swim for everybody and only allow swimming in that one certain area ( obviously people will and do of course drown due to human error because they might be drunk or just do something stupid..there will never be a way to stop that from happening..) and i have been to places where swimming is only allowed in one area and sometimes there is a lifeguard watching over things....and of course there are variables due to people wake boarding / tubing and whatever - and they should always no matter what be wearing a flotation vest. that is just common sense.. and due to it's history that lake does not even seem like that great of a place to want to go swimming in the middle of it anyway..
It's not about age but condition. For this man, though, he'd allowed the mountain to become an idol and his greatest love. That leads to impaired judgment and familiarity can lead to carelessness.
150 feet is 45 meters. That is deep. Diving pools have a depth 5 meters... not very deep. So if you say this dam is 15 meters deep, we South Africans think you are soft, and Amerians can't reach 15 meters, but if you say 45 meters, then we think bro, that's deep. So maybe use google converter and help us South Africans understand the seriousness of the issue

I used to work at the Mt. BALDY ski lifts. It was the best job.
Such sad stories but wonderfully told and great warnings! Love these marathons and this channel ty! ❤❤❤
Thank you very much for your kind words
Wonderful show, as always! Really enjoyed this.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I hear your voice while I hike sometimes. These stories remind me to be safe so that I won’t be sorry. You tell them well and I appreciate your time
😊
Was here for the whole thing!!
Awesome, thank you for watching!

this lake sounds much more perilous then the lakes I am familiar with.

Excellent presentation!
Thank you for sharing these Stories
A new video from OD is always great, and getting a marathon - great bonus! Thank you for the excellence you always provide in your videos!
Thank you for covering these stores.
Great video!!!
03:07 What in the world is that thing in that raft? What am I missing here! Looks like a live hog!
I gotta tell you the amount of cast members from glee that have died or gone to jail is kind of crazy.
Wow, I just searched it, 5 so far; 3 of them being younger adults
Very weird...
@@_nick_d holy shit, is it 5 now? That’s worse then I thought!
Who's gone to jail? I haven't heard about that.
@@_nick_d I only know three deaths who are the other two
All of these were completely avoidable with the use of some simple common sense. It's a shame. Very nicely done video.

Because it could have been even deadlier had they done so. That's what was said.
❤❤

I thought the same thing. It seems like it would be a good fix.
Because there was no safe place. That's what was said. They had two choices, both of which were highly dangerous.
1000 x? Wow 🎉
There is a monster in those waters. I won't swim there.
Id never go in a hot air balloon

Me neither, they're 100 per cent certified death traps, a ridiculous invention, only lunatics and the suicidal would consider it
150ft = 45m not 15.
I feel like nia should have just listened to her father. Rip
Yes, how many deaths and other catastrophes could be avoided if people would listen to their parents even after they are adults?

That was a Charlie foxtrot if there ever was one
15:15 😢
Naya don't need no Man!
I hate to say this but why in the Sam Hill at 78 years old would you climb a mountain rest in peace to that sweet old man
It's not about age but condition. For this man, though, he'd allowed the mountain to become an idol and his greatest love. That leads to impaired judgment and familiarity can lead to carelessness.

The kim family….FFS

Normal looking people, that are homeless because of those drugs. Is that what is going on??
I think you commented on the wrong video
Nia: "I don't need no man."
