  • It's been a bunch of Super73 Videos, figured it was time to make a updated video with the E-grom.
    Bike is setup as:
    Qs260 12KW Hub Motor.
    ASI BAC 8K Self Tuned to 32,500W 50% Weakening, 820 Phase.
    BITI 20S24P 100AH 10C Battery Pack.
    Just a small ride along where you can see the GLE overlay on the screen.
    The pizza turned out good :)

    This changes everything ... A lot of people need to keep in mind that the original Grom had between eight and 10 hp... which you would pull between 55 to 60 mph in top gear at redline...
    Seeing something like this changes everything in regards to the Grom .. this brings new life into the Grom that I have sitting in the backyard... with a messed up transmission... this literally changes everything

    Hey man, appreciate your videos on the electric bikes. 👍 I have one of these stock right now, haven't gotten it registered yet but I'm in FL also... thing is painfully slow on the road so I've definitely got plans to upgrade it to at least 50mph or so. Modifying electric is seriously fun, started my adventure off with a razor dirtbike upgraded him to 60v now it's time to work towards some real fun... thanks for the inspiration.. your bike is sweet. 🙏

      It's been a journey with this bike for sure, I remember how brutally slow it was stock. At the time I thought it was not to bad mainly because speedo was off 12 mph.
      What do you have in mind for mods? When I had the stock motor at 120A it would do 50!
      Thank you for watching, do you plan on posting some videos I would love to follow along if you do.

      @@BuildItTuneItEV Honestly I'm not too advanced so as much as I'd love to try to jump into a battery build I've been just eyeing a pre-made 72v 50ah lifepo4 on amzn. Switching from lead acid to lion alone makes the bike accelerate much better and increases the top speed by a little bit. I ordered one from aliexpress that was WAY cheaper than amazon, but it took like 5 months to ship. I just paid for a sondors metacycle that honestly is not as competitive spec wise as what is shown here on this video, BUT I look forward to modifying it, as well as continuing modifying the e-grom

      Pretty common for hub motors as the wattage is continuous use.

    Love the build! For the past couple of years I’ve been mulling over doing an EV swap on my Honda Grom, and I think something like this might be a route to take. Do you know any good place to start for resources? More specifically for the battery controller, and battery construction. I’m very familiar with modifying ICE cars/motorcycles, and I think this would be a good way to get an introduction into the EV world.
    Looking forward to following this build as it progresses!

    • @BuildItTuneItEV
      @BuildItTuneItEV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Click on the Egrom playlist.
      I show everything I did to get here and the battery build.
      But essentially you just need a hub motor 12x3.5. A controller that can do the power you want. And then a battery to supply it.
      Look up qs 12” motors and you can find full turn key kits minus battery.

    • @Opdahl101
      @Opdahl101 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BuildItTuneItEV The battery construction seems like the hardest part of this process, right?
      From a look around getting discharge rates as high as you mention seems to be abnormal when looking at premade battery pack specifications. As you make mention in the video about upgrading your controller for additional amps for future gains. I am assuming that is why you built your own battery? or is there a significant cost savings as well?
      Also oddball question, do you tune Subaru's as well? One of my buddies said his tuner was doing a project similar to this.

    • @BuildItTuneItEV
      @BuildItTuneItEV  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes I do :)
      This pack is essentially a race pack, it compromises some safety for performance. As well the time it took to construct. If this battery was for sale it would be around 4-6,000 USD. How ever I went for a battery that had the ability to produce 100HP and the range needed for myself.
      You could go with a heavier chemistry with more AH (range) or target less peak amperage and use different cells.
      Finding a used Chevy volt module and using that would be the most cost effective route. I purchased the build knowing I had a final goal of 0-60 in plaid (tesla) times. I find if I have a vision from the start it helps achieve that goal , so I set it high.
      At this current 32kw it’s 3.88 ( with a 1 foot roll out, that 1 foot is a factor since I’m not preloading and just stabbing throttle)
      Soon I am redesigning the stretched arm that cracked and will have the new controller to take full use of the power.
      So unless your wanting crazy power output you can just shoot for a higher AH and worry less about peak output.
      Use a wattage to hp calculator as the math is perfect.
      You don’t need very much power to have stock Grom HP.

    • @Opdahl101
      @Opdahl101 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BuildItTuneItEV That's awesome! What a small world!
      What took me so long is that I've been waffling between a CBR300 swap or something similar to where you are now. Realistically as your bike currently sits is at the top end of what I was looking for performance wise (30-40HP), and you're exactly right if you set a final goal it hopefully limits the amount of time you spend rebuilding/replacing components.
      I'll have to take a look at the Volt batteries and try to figure out more about those, as well as do some more digging into specific battery cells. Appreciate the heads up!
      Any other pointers you would have? or just general advice?
      I truly do appreciate the responses!

    • @BuildItTuneItEV
      @BuildItTuneItEV  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Opdahl101 My advise? I started off with a really cheap E-bike that came 350W. I picked a Super73 Z1. It barely did 20mph and took around 20 seconds to get there.
      Since it was so low cost for everything, it was easy to experiment and if I damaged something replacing it was easy. In about a year to year and a half I learned enough to build the E-Grom. I have been into Electric stuff about 2.5 years total.
      No doubt the E-grom build could be your first, you just would have to really grasp things as the cost of components at this power goes up.
      Building a cheap ebike will get you familar with all the terms, tech, and even a small battery build. So when you do something larger you will have some confidence.
      I eventually turned the 350W Pedal bike into a 18,000W Ebike that did 0-30 in 2.5 Seconds, with top speed of 70MPH.
      (Check out the Super73 Z1 build playlist if you want to see the progress) It essentially covers my learning progress. I started this channel just as I was finishing my second E-bike build. So almost all of it is here. You can look back and see some of the silly and funny things I did.

    Question: Have you thought about using a mid-mount QS motor instead of the hub motor for less unsprung weight? I am looking at a more moderate upgrade and am thinking about a 4kw mid motor to get the bike into the 45/50 mph range. Do you know if the controllers that come with the QS mid motor packages are already programmed for the motor they come with or is further tuning necessary. Have you tried implementing regen breaking on any of your motors/controllers?

      @SRNAR8 ปีที่แล้ว

      A qs273 17" can peak at 85kW (higher than any motor in the price range) and still have room for a lot of battery and be in the budget. When your bike weighs over 100kgs, the unsprung weight isn't an issue as long as you ave decent suspension. Mid id good for offroad when u only need it for 20 miles, but hubs are better on the road and also for wheelies.

      Man, me too.
      Sadly where I live, that pizza is as good as it gets.
      Thankfully I have a pizza oven and usually make my own, but on rainy days and for 9.00 laziness can win 😂
      Where I live is essentially where snowbirds travel to in the winter so they don’t even salt the food around here 😂. It’s the worst.

    Hey i couldn't help but noticing your wearing shorts, flip flops, and no gloves. You said you rode Crotch Rockets and i don't understand why your wearing what you have on. I can't help thinking you've never been down before. You ever have to put your feet down with those flip flops you feet are F up besides your toes and your hands also I've been riding Crotch Rockets for 35 yrs I'm 55yrs old seen some pretty awful stuff and some messed up people from not wearing the proper gear trying to look cool. I always wear my riding gear jeans, 3/4 shoes and a jacket and always gloves always never without them ever. I have no idea why you would post a video wearing what your wearing and not think someone would say something about it. People are maybe looking at you because of your not riding gear also. Please consider some. Road rash is very painful and it could keep you from making a trip to the hospital. Ive been rear ended at a light a riders worst nightmare but because i had on my gear i was able to walk away with not road rash or broken bones my riding gear did it's job and kept me from going to the hospital or even put in the back of a Ambulance i went home without a totaled bike. I'm not trying to be a mean person just would hate to know you got severely hurt. I tell everyone this not just you everyone i see not wearing proper gear. I love riding my Stealth bomber as much as possible. I really like your build very cool and very nicely done great job can't wait for more videos from you about your bike. Cool luggage case also very nice to have for carrying your things. Please don't take my concern the wrong way i just want to see more videos from you but not of you busted up or in the hospital or at home in bandages. Please ride safe and enjoy and please take care buddy.
