@goldshawfarm you can train your goose to respond to his/her name just like the are trained for release and bed time. Not to toot my own horn, but our goose comes when called. He, unlike your geese, is very stubborn to go to bed. Bed time is not always consistent.

As a lifetime dog handler, I can tell you from experience that dogs not regularly socialized with children will find their energy off-putting. Toby is a low key guy and children in general have a lot of energy wrapped up in little bodies. Children also tend to make direct eye contact with dogs which doesn't work well with many breeds. My recommendation? Instruct the children to avoid eye contact and offer treats when Toby is sitting. And always remember, Toby's first and only job is protecting his flock. So, be sure the birds aren't around and introductions are made outside "flock territory". May Love, Light, Laughter and Peace flow amongst us. 💗🌻🐣🙏
Little Florida Farmstead you are correct, my dogs don’t regularly encounter children, and they don’t really like them. I have no remedy for this, but it is easy to put them up if children come over. You are also right on point, Toby has a job, and he does it remarkably well.

As for the geese laying during a time that they normally don't produce eggs, one of the things which must be remembered, is that in times of either natural or man-made chaos, the earth responds in strange ways. Look up "Chaos Theory"; but then, again, maybe those geese are just fat, dumb, and happy, and there ain't a damn thing wrong with that. I visit this channel whenever I need a "bolus of pleasantry", and as a refuge from the hell which is often present in everyday life. Thanks, Morgan and Allison for providing these brief respites from a world which is quite confused these days!
If Allison ever starts her own heirloom fruit/veggie seed production I want to swap seeds! Also, maybe consider heirloom fruit trees to help genetic diversity in your area!

And I not only enjoy learning new stuff about you guys but I originally found your channel when I was researching info on Pekin and you helped out a lot so thank you. You ever thought of a well by that lake use it to water your your trees and fill up that pond and the soil will compact the soil over time and you get a regular water supply for your trees and the run off will help fill it
Can't do it due to likely spread of diseases near the lake. It's part of my major in environmental geosciences. The pollution permeates into the rock believe it or not and also picks up more stuff along the way. What he can do though is have a well up on top of the hill because there isn't as much pollution. The well will have to be much deeper and may run the risk of going dry but it eventually becomes much healthier for everything in the long run. Keep in mind that the well water might not be naturally safe either due to the presence of heavy metals.
That was great Matt! I live in Timmins ON, Canada, a retired underground miner. There are few a few farms in the area, but most have died , till the Mennonites have bought them still do so, mostly just east of us, something that I am 101% for. We're supposedly in the Big Clay Belt of Northeastern Ontario, anyways that's a wee background of my area.
I did enjoy this, thank you, Ava, for giving us your perspective on our favourite farm. Next time someone asks what you see in your future, I think it's safe for you to be able to say that you're pretty much in what you see you future as - you're living the life - it's not easy but it looks wonderful 😊
Buffstr67 how are the fires? I am close to a Seattle and with the bit of rain and change to cool damp weather there is far less smoke. It was actually pretty normal looking today.

@Tee Twetherlow bread is bad for them, we didn't know before but now there are signs everywhere here asking not to feed bread to waterfowl. If you really want to feed them (they don't recommend it, but we still do) you can feed them cracked corn, peas, lettuce, grapes cut in halves and so on.

So when your pond succeeds, fill it with salmon & create your own sushi. They will thrive from spring to fall, are harmless to water fowl, & then you can have a harvest in the fall. A great stock the freezer up food. 🐣🐔🐓🦆🦃🐟🦋🌻🌷
I didn't know about this type of geeses laying pattern, but as far i know that my Chinese geese lays twice a year when they're over a year older. I think Canadian geese lays only spring time.
