Desperate Measures is one I saw when it was first on HBO, back when HBO was the KING of cable movie providers. OUTSTANDING recommendation, I followed Keaton from then on because of his performance. Suicide Kings is tantamount to Eddie and the Cruisers in terms of arising from DVD release. And, The Covenant tells a story that's still ongoing from Afghanistan. Totally agree on both A Prophet and Flight, BOTH certainly deserve far more appreciation. And Moon... chef's kiss.
I saw the Devil's Double about 10 years ago on Netflix and it was great. I've been trying to remember the name to look it up. Will definitely re-watch. Thanks.
I absolutely LOVED "Destroyer". I had it on my watchlist back when it was on MGM or something and kept putting it off and putting it off. I finally watched it and was thoroughly impressed. It was so well done and executed flawlessly.
A Prophet is the most realistic and gut wrenching coming of age in a prison movie ever. The range of the young actor and his relationship to his "mentor" are written into my memory. Absolutely fantastic.
That was an outstanding FLICK CONNECTION Darren. Your top 3 are certainly fantastic recommendations. Thank you for sharing with us, much appreciated 🫶🫶🫶
"Moon" is one of my favorite movies. My brother rarely liked my recommendations but loved "Moon". Plus turned me into a huge Sam Rockwell fan. LOVE HIM!!
The scene in The Devil's Double when Uday Hussein slices open a man's stomach and his intestines ooze out is rilly disturbing. Don't say I didn't warn you.
Another great list, thanks Darren. One point: for Destroyer, you say something about how it's directed by a director that doesn't get enough love, but then you don't follow that up by telling us his name. You're the one who can give that love! (PS: Moon is a fantastic movie that deserves to be recommended at _least_ once a year.)
The convening is a really good movie, it’s one of ritchies under rated movies that didn’t give enough praise when it should have. It’s so good that it feels like a real situation that we are witnessing I saw it on prime and I really liked it
I love the way Daren really brings out the strong elements in each film; cettainly responsible for opening my eyes to so many great movies that I have missed.
The Devils Double .......My Brother was a Marine Full Colonel on Staff at Camp Smith Hawaii with a Top Secret Clearance. I remember him telling me about Sadam Hussain's one Son that was more Evil and Ruthless than his Dad. So when this movie came out I asked My Brother about it and his comment was it barely starched the surface of His Evil Deeds.
I really like watching your movie previews. It lets me find more cool stuff on Amazon Prime, and you’re right, you can find good movies if you really dig!
DUDE! Thanks for the Desperate Measures love. I will say that all my research has found nothing about another version than the R-Rated one I fell in love with on Showtime's free preview weekend back in the day. My long winded way of saying that you got the rating wrong. Otherwise, a great film. And a a great review.
Devils double is a great film inspired by the true story, it really showed how much his son was garbage to the world, but at the same time it had a Scarface feel to it, it was kinda like a true life story like “lord of war” meets the style and storytelling of 80s “Scarface”
Good list, thank you. Moon is just one of those movies you either get or you don't. I liked the idea but thought this presentation did not click. My other friends thought it was fantastic.
Flight was NOT a super-high budgeted film, by the way…Zemeckis has been able to bring in a lot of his more recent films for budgets ranging from $30 million (for FLIGHT) to about $45 million (last month’s HERE) largely because he is a careful, non-flashy filmmaker and big stars often take smaller paychecks to work with him (Denzel only got $4 million, and an Oscar nomination for FLIGHT)
I love the soundtrack to Moon and I think it is the movie that Sam Rockwell should have received his Oscar for instead of 3 Billboard's. It reminds me of Paul Newman winning for The Color of Money instead of The Verdict.
Always appreciate your recommendations sir! This time I've seen most of them which allows me to agree wholeheatedly with your top 3 (I enjoyed Flight as a Denzel movie, but think I might have put The Covenant in 3rd, because I saw that one as the American government was being slammed for abandoning its translators to their fates, and found this flick to be particularly poignant. The Devil's Double was BRILLIANT, and made me a HUGE fan of Dominic Cooper (a fandom reinforced 5 years later with the "Preacher" TV series.) He (and Jack Reynor) should be in everything by now!! Criminally under exposed young actors. (New agents needed ??) But your number one in this list has been in my top ten since I first saw it when it first aired. It isn't easy for an actor to carry the full weight of a film on his shoulders alone, but Rockwell does exactly that. An absolutely career defining performance in a film with a devastating (yet understated) final act. You can put it as your number one as often as you like...I'll be cool with it every time (unless you also include a Terry Gilliam movie on the same list...because most of them are always #1without exception).
THE DEVILS DOUBLE , first of all it is hard to believe the son was raised by humans? Flight is one of those movies makes you think after. another great list, i think i will rewatch Sam Rockwell in the space tonight, thanks.
Exactly! Nailed it, You might also like "Primer", "Exam", "Triangle", "It's What's Inside", "Aporia", and ab!solute classics lie "Rope" and "12 Angry Men". Now... recently, "Beyond The Infinite Two Minutes" has stunned me... I still don't know how they pulled that off. Cheers
Your recommendations are always awesome and I really do enjoy watching your videos, but unfortunately most of your recommendations I can’t even find on Amazon Prime here in Australia. I don’t know why!!! Maybe different region! Same with Netflix.
On prime in the UK (I don't know about other countries) right now is "The Last Journey" 2020(2022 depending where you look), Wonderfully different would one linner, it is very art house slow burn sci-fi, very colourful and beautiful at times but dark storyline, oh yes no dubed version so subtitle reading required
Heres one guy who enjoys your channel and takes a lot, AND watched Rust and bone, like, ten years ago. I even have it on DVD. Sadly Cotilliard has been involved in really mediocre films in Hollywood. Her performances on films outside Hollywood is generally great. I believe the film is French-Canadian.
Hey brother. If its in spanish can ypu throw a sign. Love this channel and some of your best stuff is in spanish ( Latin American spanish there's a difference. But if it's In Castellano and it's a good film it's cool. Fam spanish speakers and love your choices.
I don’t know about anyone else but I typically won’t even bother if a movie is in FreeVee- too many long commercial breaks…as bad as cable without the editing. Tubi has a break now and then and most of them are very brief. FreeVee cuts the dialogue short and bends you over for a full 2-3 minutes at the worst times.

@@timwalsh7484so true. And companies stopping production of DVD to favour the streaming revenue makes it worse
Thank you 😘
Lovely stuff as usual! Keep it up. Requesting if you could consider making a list on African Films? They don't get highlighted online as much. Asante
Coherence is a mind blowing. They should make part 2
One of the best movies I've ever seen.
Coherence is how u make a low budget film with exceptional dialogue. Why it works is because it’s thought out and executed with perfection
Great recommendations again DVD! Thanks!
A Prophet is the most realistic and gut wrenching coming of age in a prison movie ever. The range of the young actor and his relationship to his "mentor" are written into my memory. Absolutely fantastic.
Destroyer is truly underrated and one of her best performances.
A great role but the movie isn't great
Coherence is amazing.
LOVE HIM!!
Saw moon and I loved it. Thanks for the reminder and it is going to be a great rewatch
Coherence proves you don't need a monster budget to create a clever story. Novel idea and solid writing do the rest. Great flick!
Another killer list. Thank you for doing this!
Moon is fantastic. Sooooooo good.
"Moon" rocks... 😏
The scene in The Devil's Double when Uday Hussein slices open a man's stomach and his intestines ooze out is rilly disturbing. Don't say I didn't warn you.
I always find at least one new movie to try from your videos. Today its "Coherence". Downloaded to take on my flight!
Moon was a great #1, but Coherence definitely should have been #2!!!
❤Thanks for the recommendations 😊 we love TH-cam 🎬 🎞 🎥
Another great list, thanks Darren. One point: for Destroyer, you say something about how it's directed by a director that doesn't get enough love, but then you don't follow that up by telling us his name. You're the one who can give that love!

Her name: it's Karyn Kusama.
Coherence, is all that. Your Headbrain will explode.
The convening is a really good movie, it’s one of ritchies under rated movies that didn’t give enough praise when it should have. It’s so good that it feels like a real situation that we are witnessing I saw it on prime and I really liked it
Caddo Lake is another fantastic pick.
COHERENCE...is really mind fodder. Just watched it again and it was even better. Don't miss it.
Just saw "Destroyer." Great film. Thanks for the tip(s).
Thanks Darren. Always love your pics. Much love. God bless.
I like your videos Darren. I even watch the videos about movies on streaming services where I'm not subscribed. Thanks.
THANKS
Loved Rust and Bone ❤
Great list! Yes! Moon is a masterpiece!
#FC gtsy!! Thx 4 the list🍻🍿
Enjoy
@DarrenVanDam glad to see "Flight" on the list..That film surprised me🤗
Darren, the beard is THE way to go. Looking good brother.
It's nice to see some recommendations that aren't about fantasy monsters and superhuman shootouts. Well done.
I love the way Daren really brings out the strong elements in each film; cettainly responsible for opening my eyes to so many great movies that I have missed.
Thank you for supporting Better Health. It helped me immensely in a difficult time. Love your show.
I'm not a fan of Marion Cotillard, but I like your taste, so I took a chance on Rust and Bone. It was fantastic.
Love your beard, suits you
Thanks for the reminder of Rust and Bone. Great movie.
I've seen Coherence several times. You have to pay close attention to it.
Same
*Flight* is one of my favorite movies. Denzel Washington's performance is extraordinary, and it went to a place I didn't see coming.
I’m a regular viewer and I am huge fan of Rust and Bone. I think I’ve watched all the movies that Matthias Schoenaerts has acted in.
I saw Rust and Bone when it came out, really enjoyed it. I'd forgotten about it so thanks for the reminder to give a rewatch.
Loving the beard 😎
I really like watching your movie previews. It lets me find more cool stuff on Amazon Prime, and you’re right, you can find good movies if you really dig!
Coherence is an EXCELLENT film. Great sci fi. Had me thinking for weeks after viewing it, might be time for a second watch!
100%. It’s one that sticks with you. I was so engaged while watching it.
Thank you for recommending shadow strays. Awesome movie. You ruuule!
Moon. That's it. That's the list. Thumbs up.
Out of the whole list I’ve only seen Moon, haha. Starting the rest of the list noww. Great list of thrillers DVD👍
Wow, seen three of these already and half way through Destroyer. Great picks

Moon is great. The new film Mickey 17 looks similar.
Beard is phenomenal! Movie reviews are pretty good too. 😊
Still trying to get friends and family to watch Moon!!! Such a good flick.
Good list, thank you. Moon is just one of those movies you either get or you don't. I liked the idea but thought this presentation did not click. My other friends thought it was fantastic.
Love the t-shirt
I love Derailed!
How can you talk about Flight and not mention Kelly Reilly?? She was a stand out in this film

Moon is truly superb. One of my all-time favorites
One of the best prison genre flics ever: Starred Up. See it before you die.
Loved "Moon"
Rust & Bone! 👍
The Prophet!!! 👍👍👍
Derailed is the scariest horror movie I've ever seen.
Whoa that's a bold claim! I'm guessing more psychological horror? I had no idea that was Nicole Kidman in the thumbnails.. She's brilliant.
Arcade...great series...hope you watch it.
Bro, these videos are topshelf. You save me so much time from 'channel surfing'
Always appreciate your recommendations sir! I didn't see anything in your top three ?!
Christmas must be early !
Destroyer is maybe my fav rouge cop movie. Only movie I’ve watched twice back to back
Loved devils double🎉
Guy Ritchie is impressive.
Moon was one of the best movies I've ever seen!
wait a sec Darren You're A#1. is that shirt the cover to the best movie of all time? i heard he was dead. NOICE! and awesome movie rex as always!
"Suicide Kings" has been in *my* Top 25 of *all-time* for over 2 decades. It'd be my #2 from this list - after "Moon".
I’d add Ash and Bone to this list 👍
Any word from Prime on Nautilus release date ??
just watched Coherance....OMG !!! great movie
Have actually already seen Rust And Bone :)
Keaton was amazing in Desperate Measures. Before that, I believe, he was amazing in Pacific Heights.
Coherence. Just watch it.
THE DEVILS DOUBLE , first of all it is hard to believe the son was raised by humans? Flight is one of those movies makes you think after. another great list, i think i will rewatch Sam Rockwell in the space tonight, thanks.
We need more small budget, idea driven films like Coherence. Also recommended: The Man from Earth and The Artifice Girl.
That requires intelligent clever screen writers, which virtually don’t exist! 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Cheers
Also guys check out caddo Lake.

Suicide Kings is one of my favorite movies ever. But who could not like Christopher Walken? Yes, fish boots.
Devil's Double is awesome
Destroyer shows that N. Kidman can play anything!
Moon is absolute blast.

Thanks for these. I can never find squat to watch on Prime.
You mean for free? For few dollars you can find just about anything there
@kevinstarski1598 No Prime is not free. I just don't find that app very friendly. Very little they suggest is good for me.
Just watched Coherence again , it’s an amazing movie. Moon is Great , Flight too! Thanks for the suggestions
Derailed is a great flick.
I'm shocked that you used SHOCKING as clickbait.
Beard looking good. Keep it trimmed!
