The openmower build is pretty fun and not terribly difficult for someone with no mechanical/electrical/software background. I do not specialize in any of these areas but I do have some knowledge. There is a decent how-to on the openmower page and the discord channel always has people active who can step you through the build. Also here I have built using the Vermut kit, there is the possibility to keep the original mower board and interface with little more than a raspberry pi. It's called the Mowgli build, I'm not sure of the steps here, but it looks pretty easy.
there is a way to run without wifi. you can get an xbee radio for the gps module on the base and mower. this will handle the RTK communication up to 10km. but you would be able to control you mower from the web interface once its out of wifi range. A 2.4G wifi repeater outside your house usually has great range

I've been having a couple of issues with my ESC's failing.(either user error or manufacturing defect) For now I have switched to the Mowgli route which uses the mowers original main board. But as an overall design and with the new GUI web interface. Openmower is amazing.

I have been super interested in building this. How would it go on a 4200²m block though?? Does it need to be connected to wifi the whole time?

which tutorial did you use for the base station? Is there some wiring schematics anywhere for the base station?
