Overall though, it's not that Mulan wants to be a warrior or anything. She's a free-spirited girl, who grew up on her parent's property in the countryside, and idolizes her father. All of sudden, she's being told to conform to more feminine standards, give up freedom, and pop out some kids to honor her family. It's not who she is as a person, which is shown when she takes off all that makeup because she doesn't recognize the reflection which makes her uncomfortable. The overall message does speak strongly to the trans community and was adopted as a trans anthem,. But the song is also loved by many people and communities that deal with the struggles of concealing who you are because of social/societal pressure, for one reason or another.
She's a remarkable technical singer and she values emotions in her singing so much. That is why she is one of the greatest musical theatre singer that's ever lived.

She went and joined the military to save her father's life, bc there's been a conscription order for one man from every family to be drafted into the army to face the threat of the invading Huns. The live action movie is also terrible and completely butchered both the original Ballad of Mulan and the 1998 animated movie it's trying to recreate, but whatever.
