LOL that's exactly why I watch Brad and Lex's reactions. I'm a musician, and I also watch reaction videos from people who are also musicians, or producers, or in other ways know a LOT about what they're talking about from a musical aspect, and I appreciate their educated opinions and their knowledge. But somehow it just...takes something away. There's something to be said in favor of analyzing a song from a technical perspective, sure. But all that music theory and knowledge and all that stuff boils down to one basic thing: When composers create music, they use those tools to evoke a specific FEELING in the listener. And Lex FEELS the music.

This is a cover of a Tommy James and the Shondells hit back in 1968. Billy just upgraded it to an 80's sound. You guys should check out "White Wedding," a Billy Idol original. It's one of his signature pieces. That and "Eyes Without a Face."

Whenever this song came on at a party after every break in the lyrics in the verses, the crowd would yell “Hey, Hey What? Get laid, get f*cked” on the beat…even at clubs. I don’t know where that started but to this day if it comes on in the car…😊🤷🏻♀️

With Billy idol, you don't really require a lyric video, his MTV videos are what you need to be watching. There is NO deep hidden meaning in many of his songs. They are just fun as hell to dance to, Brad. Just watch Lex and react to that.

Every high school dance in the 80's, this was THE song. Everybody jammed to this. One of those songs where, when you're driving, and it comes on the radio, you find yourself going a wee bit too fast...

Tommy James said he was in a hotel in New York and there was a neon sign outside the window for Mutual of New York insurance company (MONY). That is where he got the idea from. Tommy James and the Shondells had a lot of hits in the 60's. Some good stuff. I believe I heard somewhere that Billy Idol said he did this song because he lost his virginity to this song.
"Rock the Cradle" is a fine song. Good video too. You'd never know it, but Billy was in a wheelchair at the time (motorcycle accident).
In1984 when I was 17 I actually briefly met Billy Idol and it was one of the most satisfying moments of my life! He's still putting out great music and I just adore him! Nice song choice and rabbit hole to go down. White Wedding is a must!
We made up our own words to this song in the club when it played, everyone sang along.
The title of this song was inspired by the Mutual of New York (MONY) building. The song was largely written except for the chorus, and Tommy James walked out on a balcony in Manhattan, looked up, and saw "M.O.N.Y." atop the building in the flashing lights. Hence, "Mony Mony."
The most fun thing about this song was when they played it in a bar, the whole bar would sing along. During the refrain though everyone would sing “l@id, get l@id get f*cked. I’m sure there are tons of old bar videos out there showing this. It was a nationwide thing and this song still reminds me of that. In college bars in the late 80s, the whole bar would scream, "Get laid, get f*cked" after the Mony Mony line on the beats. It's a good nonsense song and a solid cover tune.

Back in 1990 we hit the port in Halifax Nova Scotia. We were at the bar (My Apartment) and there was easily over a hundred people at this block party. We were slamming down shots when this song came on. It was an immediate adrenaline rush for the crowd ! Every time that the "Mony Mony" chorus hit the crowd followed with "Get Laid...Get F@cked" ! What a night !

My cousin played in Billy's band for years. He always put on a great show and is a super nice guy. At one sound check he started singing Beatles songs and was great. Should have never passed on "Don't You" but if he didn't no one would know who the Simple Minds were. Dies a great cover of The Doors, "LA Woman."

You should really check out the original artist, Tommy James and the Shondells. Lots of 1960s hits, with lots of energy. They were very popular choices to cover in the 1980s.

Tommy James and the Shondells had more #1 hits in the late 60's and early 70's than any other artist. They just didn't get the respect they deserved because they were pretty much one of the first "boy bands".
6 of there songs (including this one) became billboard top ten songs as remakes in the 80's by other artists but still nobody knows who they are.
