Those races still bring tears to my eyes, Johnson was like a fable things bards would’ve wrote songs about, the kind of athlete you sit in front of the tv for hours just because you don’t want to miss them do what he does or the way that they do it.
As a young kid I would never miss a race of his, he deserves all of the accolades he has or will receive.

'Butch' Reynoldsran the 400 meters in 43.29 seconds in 1988 at 24 - years - old which stood as the world record until Michael Johnson ran 43.18 seconds in 1999 on an extremely quick track at almost 32 - years - old. Therefore Reynolds would probably still be the 400 meters world record holder if he had ran that 43.29 seconds on the 1999 track that Johnson ran 43.18 on. Although it will certainly take something very special to conquer Johnson's 43.18 seconds world record.
And the 200 meters world record of 19.32 seconds that Johnson crusaded towards in the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta stills leaves me awestruck to this day even though Bolt and Blake have obviously ran quicker times in the event. Carl Lewis ran the 200 meters in 19.75 seconds in 1983 on a slow track at 21 - years - old despite amazingly raising his arms to celebrate 15 meters from the finishing line which proved detrimental to his eventual time.
If Lewis hadn't raised his arms meters from the finishing line then he would have ran something like 19.3 if not better; would definitely have ran something like that on the super - fast Atlanta track. Michael Johnson although an awesome athlete never got anywhere near 19.32 seconds before or after Atlanta which just indicates how fast that Atlanta track really was. Carl Lewis was also robbed of a 9.15 meters long jump in 1982 at 21 - years - old and his 100 meters world record last from 1991 until 1994.
