    just goes to show you never know how much damage there is until pros like you take it apart and look into it. It is so frustrating waiting on parts these days. Keep up the great videos!

    After seeing all the destroyed SxS in Matt's video, I knew there had to be someone fixing them. Hopefully we get to see part 2.

    Thanks for posting. Given the sheer volume of rolled/crunched/bent/busted rental UTVs Matt and others recover around San Hollow, repairing UTVs could be a full time specialty for your shop. There are a LOT of UTV owners who would enjoy seeing the innards of quads, how to disassemble/assemble them, observed weaknesses, recommendations, etc.

      @RobbyLayton  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes that is very true and we enjoy working on them the only down fall right now is parts availability but we hope to do alot more in the future and will document all that we do! thank you for watching!!

      @@RobbyLayton Being Canadian, Can Am parts will be more problematic. To compound it, they had a LARGE fire at one of their manufacturing plants in Mexico this July. I visit Utah each Summer and alternate between my Can Am and Polaris ATVs. The Can Am is more reliable but its parts have been an issue. Jorgensen's Powersports in Richfield has been a great help on multiple occasions.

      @@gregparrott Yes jorgensens is who we would get parts thru on this machine great to deal with for sure !

      This will be cool to watch. Maybe you could get Scott over at Diamond S to build you a sweet titanium muffler for it!

    • @gregparrott
      @gregparrott 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@nateross14 Who is 'Diamond S'? I Googled but found nothing. Do you know if 'Diamond S' even builds mufflers? (as I am actually interested in replacing one)
      As for materials, titanium is EXTREMELY expensive. VERY FEW places have the equipment, let alone the experience required to weld titanium. For example, just flowing an inert gas at the weld point is insufficient. Instead, the entire part has to be immersed in an inert atmosphere. I'm not even sure if Argon is sufficient.
      The better mufflers are typically made of a high temperature grade of stainless steel. The most common is 304 stainless, or (better still, but less commonly used) 309 stainless.
      In addition to replacing the muffler, I would replace the pipes leading to it. A couple of benefits to stainless over just replacing the exhaust with standard materials are:
      1) Lower thermal conductivity - At times, my existing exhaust gets so hot that it has MELTED holes in plastic body panels (literally dripping plastic). Stainless has about HALF the thermal conductivity of regular steel. So, it is almost as though the pipe is heat wrapped.
      2) Ability to ALSO use heat wrap without risk of accelerated pipe failure. Heat wrap is often applied to regular exhaust pipes. However, wrapping increases the pipe's temperature beyond where they're expected to run, accelerating their wear and corrosion. By switching to high temperature stainless, the material itself is better suited to elevated temperatures. Using stainless AND (if need be) heat wrap will resolve the body heating issue and also increase the exhaust efficiency.

    With all of the SxSs that Casey and Matt haul off the dunes and trails, someone could probably have a shop that just rehabs them full time, Casey repairs some, but there are enough to keep a shop busy.

    Hey Robby, what happens if you spend all that time in stripping the vehicle to assess the damage and the insurance company decides scrap it due excess cost? How do you recoup your costs?

    • @johnskinner6204

      typically the insurance company will pay a flat rate cost for tear down and estimation. Worked nearly 40 years in the auto biz as a transmission/engine re-builder. and have seen my fair share of oh sh!t incidents...
