1985 IROC-Z BUILD #8. Fixing a lowered suspension back to stock riding height. The struggle is real!

This 1985 Camaro IROC-Z is becoming quite the disaster. This car was lowered with springs in the past and is a disaster to drive being slammed to the ground so I must get it back to stock riding height. Not easy!

We used to use the tool compressed them and tied them with bailing wire . Then undid the toll when we got the spring in and set we cut the wire

I had the same problem with a T-body front springs,had to compress the springs under a 4 post hoist with a car on it,chain the springs with nuts and bolts then fit it to the car and then jack up the A-arm. They were almost half the length when installed in the car!

Different springs for different spring rates. My 1992 1LE has extremely stiff tall springs from the factory.

I agree that those bigger coils wouldn’t fit. It was the right call using the springs off the ‘91. I’m liking this build. I always liked the Iroc Z’s.

What a coincidence. I was changing springs and struts on a Nova using the same tool when this video came out. I feel your struggle. As of now I'm not finished. When I finally got the tool cranked down and spring and control arm button up, the wedge part of the tool was stuck on the lower control arm. Just like you said. Went in and called it a day. This Nova does not have a place on the top to remove the tool and the hole at the bottom of the lower control arm is too small for the square piece to come out. I will need to unscrew the entire tool after installing the spring to get the tool out. Planning to finish tmrw. Glad you got it done and live to make more videos of "From IRAGGEDY to IROC".

If I remember right, you'll have to take it out through the side of the spring.

Great job Lee. Looking good. Look up 1987 trans am for the disc brake hoses. That's what I had to do when I swapped a disc brake rear end in my old camaro.

The height of coils doesn’t really matter. It’s the size of coils and how wide it’s wound. My experience with moroso rear drag racing springs were taller than factory but after installation it sat the same height. The difference is the tension on launch.

Hmm, my spring compressor like yours has both ends like the end yours has on the top. Mine does not have that bottom like yours does. Mine you try and put towards the ends and if it compresses crooked you loosen it and readjust the bite on the spring and try again, usually works great. That bottom piece you have on yours sticks out too much for one issue and the other issue is it does not sit at the correct angle so when you tighten it there is no way it can tighten straight. If you run into one that has both ends like the top of yours buy it, they work better. Otherwise if you had two like yours, screw off the goofy bottom on yours and use two tops and you would essentially have the kind of compressor I have. With both ends like the top rotate them until you get the perfect bite and it is safer and makes the compressing even. Good move using the parts car springs, those new ones are too long for that car, the interchange book is wrong.

Mine is 28.25 but is a cross fire car with 15 inch tires buddy Iroc z is 27.5 with 16 in tire like you have and tpi 350

You need new school spring compressor I which you can remove the center thread then the other piece fish out

Can't you compress the spring first and then put the spring up in there with the tool on it bring up the lower control arm then that's how my mechanic did mine I bought the tool out from the bottom the tool off
