Abbey Road is the Beatles’ 9th Symphony. A final masterpiece achieved in difficult circumstances by the greatest composers of their time. Both the 9th Symphony and Abbey Road have amazing and joyful finales that put a giant exclamation point on the artists’ magnificent career. Despite the struggles, Beethoven and the Beatles finish with a triumphant masterpiece. Excellent video - as always.

Agreed! Beethoven and Beatles each had styles that evolved and unique sounds galore. And worked their compositions incessantly until perfection, I’m waiting for and B and B comparison video - some day.

Abbey Road is tied with All Things Must Pass as my if-necessary one-and-only "desert island recording". I've saved it to play it through my great ear buds with an MP3 player at the end of several trips on the way home, either on the airplane or in the shuttle/Uber/Lyft. It just transports me to a wonderful different place and time and eliminates any negativity from the rigors of travel. Several times, the album has still been playing when it's time to land or arrive at my house, and I want the journey to last a little longer, even if its hot or bumpy or uncomfortable, in order to let the album finish - that's how powerful and enjoyable it is. Thanks Abby for your perspective on it!

      @marcyfan-tz4wj ปีที่แล้ว

george is undeniably magnificent and is strutting his stuff on this record but lennon and mccartney performing songs they wrote from 63 to rubber soul especially are what set the stage for george to shine as bright as he did later. i think you're an old soul, a wordsmith, a gorgeous replica of women george had at his disposal constantly, a woman who hopefully takes care of herself when relating to the tragic figures of rock but lennon and mccartney writing and singing those songs is the heart of the beatles. long live the fab 4 and soon may people start shipping you the records you're missing from your collection....pamela des barres' copies of stones records, etc..

First, I'd like to tell you that I just discovered your channel and I love it. Now my comment has to do with what you said about George writing the hits. I think it has to do with the fact that most of his compositions were rejected by Lennon-McCartney. He was allowed a couple of songs per album at most so whatever got through had to be excellent. This is also why, after the breakup, he was the most productive former Beatle. No wonder he needed a triple album for All things must pass.

    12:44 The Les Paul:
    "Lucy"
    OK, so...
She started as a 1957 gold top Les Paul with a Bigsby, it seems (Gibson has some doubts about it). She belonged to John Sebastian then Rick Derringer. She was refinished to a natural red. Derringer felt it changed the guitar too much so he sold her to a guitar shop.
Eric Clapton bought her, but didn't use her much, then gave her to George Harrison. During the recording of the 'White Album', Harrison was focused on sitar, so he asked Clapton to come in and record a solo for 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps' on Lucy. Harrison also used her for the solo on the album version of Let It Be.
Later, she was stolen from Harrison's home, sold to a guitar store, then bought by a Mexican musician who took her to Mexico. Harrison had to trade another red (or maybe sunburst) Les Paul and a P-bass to get her back.
George apparently kept her after that, but I can't find any info on where she exactly is currently.
In 2013, Gibson released a limited edition (100) copy of Lucy. It came with a copy of the 'White Album'. I saw one had been re-sold for $17,000.

I just want to get this quick thought in about Abbey Road. Abbey Road is a much better album for The Beatle to go out on than Let It Be. Abbey Road is the nice beautiful bow that is wrapped around a box of amazing body of work. It is the finally of a firework display. You can say they went out on a blaze of glory and a wonderful way to end the most remarkable work of artistical music expression in modern popular music. Now each every member of the band can go on to their solo work after having climb the Mt. Everest of what an artist can reach. The Beatles showed that not only the heights of Mt. Everest but the sky was the limits in music creativity.

Aabb(e)y Rhoads.....it's one of my favorite album covers. So damn sunny and positive. Lennon and Macca should've had The Beatles do Cold Turkey. Instead of, say, Maxwell? Yoko in bed in studio 2. Is 'I Want You' the prototype doom metal riff? I love Paul. And that voice on Oh Darling. Excellent. See you in court. 😊

I've only recently heard Pauls bass lines isolated on "Something". He's doing some very inspired playing indeed. I had the opportunity to meet Robert Moog in the Ninties. He lived in Black Mountain NC just outside of Ashville. He was more an engineer than a musician, but he was a very nice and considerate man.

Beautifully played but a bit busy for a song like "Something". George Harrison once commented that it was a bit much for the song's sentiment. A bit of a showoff on McCartney's part.

Thanks for the great review/analysis. I like your Maxwell’s Silver Hammer theory of the break up, but if that was the case, the reported 100+ takes of Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da would’ve done it a year earlier. 😂. Also, because nobody else has asked, did you wear that shirt to match George’s on the cover? And with your hairstyle, you’ve got a Pattie Boyd look going on (I can see her picture just over your left shoulder). Well done.

The End..."I love how you can tell who played what"...well congratulations, sport! Because after decades of listening I've never really figured it out. I've always assumed John played the overdriven one...the other two are really similar. This is how I think it goes...
    Paul
    George
John...repeat in that order until they finish.

"She's So Heavy" for me is the greatest moment of the album. The two versions of "I want you..." make a very pleasent contrast, and the noisy-long end is simply marvelous (yes, I'm a huge fan of Sonic Youth!). A solo, Harrison's or Hendrix's, would have lost its magic feeling.

She's So Heavy made this album; grunge before grunge.
It's why Paul fronting a new Nirvana song felt so right. The rest of the album is a drunk man tugging on beards at a bar singing Octopus Garden directly into your ear.
You're enjoying everything about the experience except that there's a drunk man tugging on your beard while singing in your ear.

Enjoyable as usual. A few thoughts. DON’T LET ME DOWN was never going to be considered for this because it was from different sessions at the beginning of 1969…too different in sound etc… as far as the often maligned MAXWELL…. I maintain that if that song was written and done by say RANDY NEWMAN or WARREN ZEVON it would have been praised by critics to the heavens! They both wrote songs with similar dark comedy themes, check out Excitable Boy by ZEVON. Anyway I think this is one of the best albums ever made , a high point of the RnR era..and it’s not even my favorite Beatle album! They went out on top. Some nit picks….another keyboard player besides Billy Preston recorded with both the Beatles and Stones…NICKY HOPKINS…Hopkins is on Revolution . Ok thanks great job!
