That's not always true even in the U.S. Laws almost never explicitly protect ignorance of a criminal situation or act. It's up to prosecutors to decide if the ignorance is genuine and enough to not push for a criminal prosecution. A situation where igorance seems like it should be a cover is if you meet a woman(turning out to be a girl perhaps) at a 21+ bar and take her home that night, only later to find out she was underage. So much about that situation and interaction doesn't really allow for the man (or older person) to detect the true age of the other and it would be silly to legally require the check. However, on the flipside if the relationship with the underage person goes on for a while, long enough and in a nature where certain clues can be understood ignorance starts to fall apart. Things like picking up "your girl" from a high school; or that she still lives with her parents; maybe even as weak as her not being in one of the following situation: attending college, looking for a job, or has a job. Lacking any sense of most what adults establish as a baseline for taking care of themselves or being on a path to is a prompt to understand why. Sure, Josh Giddey himself making a lot of money, maybe some of that gets overlooked as he really doesn't care too much for her to be anything other than pretty and nice to him...still. I'm not disappointed that criminal charges didn't come to Josh Giddey; but I think often times the NFL or NBA exercise stricter rules for players than the law to ensure players stay well within legal/moral bounds and they could have done something with Josh Giddey. I think Adam Silver is full of it when he says "we don't take action on just allegations" -- well shit, Kyrie didn't do anything wrong and his career was threatened through the media. Ja Morant didn't do anything illegal (gun flashing situations alone) and he was suspended for 25 games. Would love to see a consistent behavior here no matter what the race of the player is. NBA and NFL certainly don't practice it.

There was never even an accusation was there? All that happened was some photos leaked online and were immediately removed and the internet did the rest. Josh never made a statment, the girl never made a statment, we never even found out the girls date of birth or the date that the pictures and videos were originally taken. The internet needed a story so the pictures became two years old in spite of no proof and the girl became whatever age she needed to be where she was 15 when they were taken. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that's what happened.
Yeah, folks seem to be running with their habitual reactions. I thought it was kind of scuzzy - like, dudes know how old the girls they are hitting on are, there's no accidents there. But as inappropriate as it is, I havent heard anything about her being hurt, assaulted, or even upset. There were never any facts made public for anyone to form an educated opinion. Everyone involved stayed quiet and the internet just speculated furiously and worked themselves into a lather based on nothing more that rumors. The investigation only happened as the result of the leaked pictures, and it seems that everyone involved just wanted it to go away. None of us have a clue what the real story is and we probably never will.
I can guarantee, even not knowing you, that if you've been in a club or establishment of some sort, you would have communicated with under age patrons and not had the faintest clue they were under-age. Utterly ridiculous to suggest otherwise. If we all grow up as clones, perhaps your point holds.

Personally my hypothesis is that he got with a girl at the club and then later on found out she was underage, I’m guessing she knew this the whole time and hid it from him. I’ve had 2 people in my life 1 and friend and other ex highschool mate be falsely accused. One was through instagram and people agreed because in school he “looked and acted weird”. Comments DA saying they always knew something was wrong with him xyz. He called the police on himself and the girl didn’t want to go forward and admitting to lying. But people still calling him a artist in the comments to this day.
Another was accused of being an underaged artist, again people posted him and his face everything worse then my friend. To the point where he moved out of Maryland and stopped posting on social media (atleast from what it seems) Then his baby momma later says she lied and she only said it because he wouldn’t let her stay with him, not be with, stay where he lives. It seems like this was the inevitable outcome. There was never a complaint made to police, no-one was co-operating with the investigation, and it seems like everyone just wanted it to go away. We'll probably never know what happened, and maybe at the end of the day it's none of our business.

I was under the impression they met in California, so it was California consent laws that had to be considered. The police department investigating the case was Newport Beach PD in California.

This also might not be true but apparently this all happened over 2 years ago - he would have been 18 and she, 15, if true. Still illegal, and all hypotheticals, but if she were in an 18+ club, he may have thought that they were both 18. I have no idea if it was an extended relationship, a one night stand, whatever it may be. We'll never know if he was aware of her age during or if he cut it off after finding out. Some saying he made OKC aware of it after finding out. So many theories to this one but seeing as no charges will be laid, and it's the family's choice not to proceed; it'd only be fair to both parties to accept it for what it is and leave this saga behind.

This is pretty much standard. U can not be legally guilty of a crime yet still be guilty of conduct unbecoming (see Ja Morant). NBA or other agencies that have morality clauses in contracts can do their own investigations into actions/behavior that supposedly is in conflict with requirements and expectations. I think the NBA halting their investigation during the police’s investigation and resuming afterward is simply to prevent interfering with law enforcement. Either way, the fact that the girl and her family won’t cooperate already speaks something in light of the situation regardless of how old she is or the legality and consent of the relationship. It simply dismisses the idea of putting negative repercussions against Josh at least legally, but ethically and morally it still is at least weird and questionable.
