So many young boxers fall for jacked-up, tatooed fakes on TH-cam because they look like a 14-year-old's conception of a tough guy. I always point newcomers to Fran Sands for real instruction from a real coach. Please keep sharing your wisdom with the world, Fran.
@@myboxingcoach my pleasure. I have learned a lot from you on this channel! Keep fighting and growing. It's the silver lining of the covid bs shutdown. They try to kill our businesses this way, but your channel is growing! Keep fighting!
Great video. I'm 43 years old. I wish I would have learned all of this 20 or 30 years ago. Me and my 12 year old son watch all of your videos. Thank you!
Well another great video I prefer in my younger days when I had speed to be a inside fighting but now older if ever sparring outside slipping and countering great video
Great stuff as always Fran. Would love to see your analysis of Terence Crawfords style. Always finds a way to win and control the other fighter even when he's behind on the card. Particularly the fight against Gamboa from 2014 when both were equal 23 and 0 with 16 knockouts each. Thanks Kev
Hi mate ! I’m training in lockdown been looking at your channel I think it’s really useful and great stuff. Could you do some soviet/Russian style boxing technique videos. As I’m struggling to find any that are in English on the internet. If you could that would be fantastic and also I think there’s a hole in the TH-cam content for this particular issue/style. Cheers lad
I think what you said Fred is ultimately the best idea! Keeping your head moving is better than standing still like a Sitting Duck! I think if you are a boxing trained fighter defending yourself staying inside is your best option or maybe middle-range! I Still Believe In traditional Western boxing has a lot to offer! Muay thai fighters MMA fighters and kickboxers are very dangerous to the boxer but the boxer has the best fundamentals simplified! And if the boxer has trained to defend against other types of Fighters he can be the most dangerous person on the planet! And yes head movement is a very useful skill! If the boxer can learn to stop takedowns from a wrestler and check kicks from the Muay Thai Fighter as well as break out of the clinch the boxer is still the best!
Great video as always Fran! Could you please do something for tall lanky people at close range? Besides managing the range and moving behind the jab in the first place I mean. At close range I often find myself on the ropes having to choose between getting hit in the body or the head and I have issues getting out of this without getting clipped by big hooks. Thanks! Love from France!
Great video, the problem with slipping comes when your opponent circles, cause then your more likely to get hit since you have to turn in according to face him. That's what I learned today in the sparring :D Also do you have a video which can make me improve my hands to be on my face rather than down?
Yes, front foot or rear foot subtle pivot as they circle can help keep them in your strike zone. On the hands up thing, place a handkerchief betweek your right hand and cheek and then throw lots of jabs. Next round, place the handkerchief between your left hand and your left cheek and throw lots of right hands. In both cases, don't let the handkerchief drop 👍. all assumes orthodox, reverse it for southpaw.
If an orthodox vs orthodox slips the jab on the inside and counters the jab with the lead hook, would the opponents straight not likely beat the lead hook due to the shorter distance of straight punches?
Hello Fran sands. The place i train, we train 3 times a week, which are 90 mins sessions. I really want to take boxing seriously. I was wondering if you had any stuff to keep me busy every week? I don't know what to do outside of the gym. I see you're a very knowledgeable coach, so i wanted to reach out to you. I know this alot to ask for bare with me :) Should i do intervals? Strength training? I just turned 15, 184 cm, about the mid 80's kg. Thanks.
I think slipping punches can be a very useful reaction dealing with violence coming directly at you! However in the ring regarding pugilism and the sport of fist fighting I believe it can be very useful! but in scenarios regarding Muay Thai or the street slipping punches and head movement can still be useful but must be adapted or it could get you fucked up real quick
@@myboxingcoach I absolutely love the sport of boxing! And I think there are a lot of very interesting Combat Sports globally! But I still find the greatest value in traditional Western boxing! And it maybe a sport governed by a lot of rules and restrictions but hands down it is probably the most intelligent option A person can give themselves regarding self-defense! Proper head movement, the best footwork in the business of fighting and strategic hand skills that cannot be matched! A boxer's fundamental fighting skills are to solid for other people to deal with and I don't give a goddamn who disagrees!

Hi Bilal, thank you for your comment. Find an amateur boxing club - Germany is an excellent place for boxing, there are lots of places with excellent coaches. Good luck, I'm sure you will be great👍
Slipping puts you in an advantage of countering a straight, but it also puts you in danger of getting hit with a hook. Kinda like a duck. Ducking into uppercuts is bad. If you want an example, check out marcus davis vs jeremy stephens ufc.

Inside slip works great with a low left hook as a counter to the cross too. I had a rib broken that way. It was a beautiful move and perfectly timed!

Tell me some do your rear foot be 45 degrees see cause I like your head movements and foot work can you send me the link of the footwork

I've just watched the latest Katie Taylor match and noticed she kept slipping on her left and hooking - very effective each time!
The slip loads up the lead leg for the hook I suppose
Its risky.. Ive seen mayweather and other fighters mostly slip on one side for everything.. Its hard to slip on the outside fast enough..
