To few likes for this video and way too many dumb comments. I think people have seriously missed the point that this gentleman has not only engineered the crap out of this bike but this is a whole level of new freedoms for those are bound to their wheelchairs. Come on people a bit more applaud and a little less " why don't you put a motor on it". Sir, I salute you and hope this project of yours gets the attention it deserves.
And now imagine this one with electrical support for going up the hills. This would make this bike even more fun for the handicaped. Great invention - well done !
Why are there 5 thumbs down? Have ppl no hearts. This was an absolute pleasure to watch. Truely inspiring. These guys got to make sure that a good friend is awalys with on a ride. I hope I will always be able to walk. I love MTB biking but pedaling up hill by hand.........don't know if I got what it takes for that. Drive on brothers and be careful.
Does Martyn Ashton know about these bikes? Seriously. After getting injured not long back, maybe this is way back into cycling! Fantastic work to whoever is creating these bikes! Keep improving it!
I would so love one of these it's the answer I've searched for . But like all equipment made for us who can't use our legs it comes with a price tag so huge one needs thousands of dollars to get one . Why is it the second your labeled disabled everything goes up 500% when a good portion of us simply can't come up with that kind of money ? Sad🤐😔
Well considering that us the wheelchair bound people or someone who has to used a wheelchair to get around are far less then the normal population who are healthy and have job aka Money can spend more, most people who become disable tend to have lesser income and in many cases no income at all. So there is not money for the inventors to see a profit from doing something nice. It's just the way things are, there is always the lottery, maybe fingers cross.
That's hardcore! Much respect! Fellow trike rider too. Keep going, The ride is something definitely to be jealous of....and I am. Way to go. Stay safe out there bud.
Does anybody read descriptions, or even titles? I respect you guys for allowing others to take part in an activity that wouldn't otherwise be considered possible. I did have a question though. In the video the cycle seemed to function well on the rocks, but has there ever been a problem with pedal/crank clearance and obstacles?
EnergyReturnWheel Your wheel looks interesting but is it not radial in shape? If not, wouldn't that affect traction in any situation outside of going straight? Also, weight is a big deal with bikes, especially rotational weight, especially at the outside of said rotational weight, is it heavy? It is just that I have seen numerous well intentioned people try to reinvent the wheel , if you will, and every one I observed was creating more issues than it solved. Flats have become a minor issue which is readily fixable. As for suspension , that is better performed through dedicated components and frame design. Traction will always be an issue as its a balancing act between reasonable weight and contact patch and tread design. A low PSI 2.5" MTB tire is hard to beat traction wise as the advantage of pneumatic is it conforms to the ground. Its the ability to conform and weight that have made the tire so successful.
Yep...and people like that usually HAVE money...most of the disabled folks I know, DON'T. They aren't allowed to be disappointed in the price...some of their lives are filled with things they "can't do". Add the price and how restrictive that makes this bike, and they have another one. Maybe if they elect a socialist president, "everyone" will get a free one?
Im blown away buy the ingenuity of this trike! It is something which I hope prospers in the near future! My hat goes off to you! Only 1 question: 1) Maybe you could build another model which is based on the same concept but for people with little/no connections with their upper body?
this is amazing and an incredible opportunity for those who can't use their legs, but it really makes me appreciate my ability to mountain bike! keep up the good work guys! as a side note, the double wishbone suspension really seems to work well here.
It really bothers me reading some of the things people are saying about this. I think its great product. money or no money, you're helping people in need. A BIKE is a BIKE is a BIKE... and everyone deserve to ride
This is really great for the athlete who is in great shape and has lost the use off there legs---so how about a couple of geared electric hub motors for the rest of us physical challenged or not? ?
The best choice are hubs with internal gears , mostly because every gear (in schlumpf or hub) can be switched even when the bike is stationary or under load. Unfortunatelly , I cannot put a link to our graphs but please look on our website, you will see that gears range is similiar as in MTB bikes and in addition can be extremly low when needed.
Man, this is a nice invention. Watching this video and 4cross ones makes me want to ride one of this things, even not being handcapped. Seems to be much fun. I wonder why people ask so many dumb questions about it, in my opinion, its not to be a bestseller, or have the top performance compared to other products, is about freedom and be able to experience things that regular wheel chairs can't.
Awesome riding . I'd put a pedal assist motor on it like a bbshd keeping with the workout . I have a low ejection factor with my heart and run electric bikes and love it . I go 20x farther then I could with a normal bike and get a super workout and want more .. I have a BLAST ... Awesome Job
This is actually tempting even for the not handicapped. Pedaling it looks awkward, but downhill looks so much fun! The lower position if the rider, the third wheel, this could actually run better than a normal bike! It also looks like a great workout for your upper body. One question though: I saw some scenes where the rider was actually not sitting on the seat. Are all handicapped people able to do that? And if not, would that make it harder for them to ride as efficiently as him? Great project
Simply (or rather complexedly) amazing! I applaud you Explorer for using your amazing design tallent to create such vehicles. I believe that everybody should equally have the ability and option to experience God's creation in the ways that inspire them the most. You have inspired me with your dreams-become-reality!
It would be relatively easy to make the back wheel steer, then have the chain run forward to a solid front axle, so that it's fwd-2wd with a live axle. (no open differential)
So, usually there is not even a small problem with cranks ground clearance, however if you really really want then probably you will find rocky obstacle which can hit the pedals. But like I said , usually this not happens.
@castuckey Very good question! finally :) So, Explorer II is equipped with Schlumpf Mountain-Drive - cranks with internal reduction gear. Cranks works in two positions: 1:1 or reduced to 2.5:1 . Thanks it, gears can be extremly low whenever you need or normal when you want to go faster. Except the Schlumpf M-D, every bike can be equipped with hubs with internal gearing system (8 or 11 gears) or 9 spd darelieur.
Excellent workmanship on these machines. Are any of the components off the shelf? I am especially interested Retested in the wheel hubs and steering components. Keep it up, and thank you for the video.
Nice bike and concept for those who are paraplegic or not if for something more challenging. The low gear ration looks like it works well for the inclines but would be terrible on flat terrain. Are these single speeds?
I like this design, however, I would need it designed just like a regular trike where the seat is leaned back and to where I can potentially add an electric motor to this, is it able to be done, and for how much?
thumbs up for the horse 3:58, going to look in to building one, or buy one. they look so amazing Loads of engineering has gone in to that you can tell buy the way it performs
ha thats neat mate. I recon that'd be a prime candidate for conversion to electric, particually a pedelec type one. Also be a great upper body workout too!
These are BRILLIANT!!! I'm not disabled, & have recumbents & bikes. But I could do with something to give an upper-body workout, & these are spot on! The idea of motorising these HANDcycles is kinda missing the point.....
My thoughts the same, but if you look closely you'll see hes able to steer whiles pedalling, 0:55, that pad hes fastening with I guess nylon string/rope pivots. meaning you steer with your belly/chest. OP, you my man, are a hero!
really cool idea, how does your design compare to the R-One Fourcross or AFF Raven as far as overall stability when corning hard? I think your design is very marketable because of your hand crank feature that no other 'downhill' styled handicapped bike has. When your pedaling, is there some kind of tension system that keeps the front wheels straight? It's a little hard to tell from the video. All things aside, its a sick design and i hope it does well! cheers
that is really cool iam not handicapped and I would totally like to ride one of those things. I think it would be more fun for folks if it had like a little electrical motor to assist on going up really big hills.
its high price brings a couple of questions. why does it have those awkward hand peddles? replace them with the hand crank designs i have been seeing, using a hand crank, and an arrangement of gears, this would be worth the price,
Interesting, for a hand cycle going up hills seems slow, and I think they would have been better off using traditional gears rather than an internal gear hub, cheaper and a higher ratio difference, the only part that I would change. Great bike though, and I had been wondering how one would go about making a bike for the disabled. :)
Wouldn't it be better to do the steering with your chest, so you can crank (or whatever is the hand equivalent of pedal) it without having to loose steering control?
ive watched your video and realise we don't have terrain here on which this bike could be applied. as far as hlls go. Holland is by far the biggest bicyle-country! What if you took out the hand drive and built in a mechanical construction which works on bodyweight/...??? so if you pull yourself towards the steer you generate the energy and when you relax the arms more it will release the energy. In that way the driver Always holds the steer both while steering and driving.
i am handicapped and i had to build my own bike because as stated before cost is a major issue. it is true. when labeled handicapped or "Special" the price goes through the roof. my bike cost me 68 dollars to make and it attaches to my chair and is much like those sold for 2000 dollars or more. it is rediculas. what about those who are not rich? no one wants to think of us.... great bike by the way. i so want one. but its way out of my budget. :(
You need to make it electric too, that would really make it great for the hill climbing & for those who don't have the arm strenth you do. And who knows you mite like it to. But all in all a great bike ideal I love it.
Sir, I salute you and hope this project of yours gets the attention it deserves.
this shows that mountain biking reaches all points and clear this man's ingenuity and sentiment also
Awesome! I test-rode a New England Handcycle trike back in the 1980s, went up and down stairs on it. This ROCKS!
The riders in this video are some hard charging guys. Total respect.
I would so love one of these it's the answer I've searched for . Ecomomy of scale, unfortunately.
Well considering that us the wheelchair bound people or someone who has to used a wheelchair to get around are far less then the normal population who are healthy and have job aka Money can spend more, most people who become disable tend to have lesser income and in many cases no income at all. awesome to know my love of mountain biking will not end if i lose my legs! with the right mind of determination nothing can stop the shred!
Great job. that Explorer and the Quadrix will help handicapped people off-road ! Keep up the good job !
big respect for creators and riders... really big respect folks.
regardless of disability, this looks like the funnest way to build arm and upper body strength!
Great job! Electric hub in rear would be epic! Freedom is a very good thing.
We have began prototype work for Velomobiles. 3 hoops in 1 for the purest power transfer.
New traction systems are providing traction that a pneumatic can not match. A high psi core with morphing borders.
We will be posting new MTB and Road bike video this week!
EnergyReturnWheel Your wheel looks interesting but is it not radial in shape? If not, wouldn't that affect traction in any situation outside of going straight? Also, weight is a big deal with bikes, especially rotational weight, especially at the outside of said rotational weight, is it heavy?

EnergyReturnWheel Just playing devil's advocate. People will be asking this stuff.
Its cool to know that theres still some people who care more about the people then about the money.
Yep...and people like that usually HAVE money...most of the disabled folks I know, DON'T. Yea awsum! Mate these are inspiring. Giving people to feel some fun again! Wish I had the bucks to give one to someone I know! Keep at it mate!

I'm not handicapped, but I love the front suspension. Would love to have an off-road recumbent built with these parts.
The hand crank looked to be kinda difficult in video, time to make a electric version with some beefy motors.
There is one!
You're doing a good thing for people keep it up
absolutely amazing, truly inspirational!!!
love the mix
PUT THE CONSTRUCTION PLANS UP FOR SALE!
EXCELLENT CREATIVITY,GOD BLESS YOU!
Playing this song on a “handicap” video is potentially dangerous and can bring flashbacks :D
Awesome riding . I'd put a pedal assist motor on it like a bbshd keeping with the workout . I have a low ejection factor with my heart and run electric bikes and love it . I go 20x farther then I could with a normal bike and get a super workout and want more .. I have a BLAST ... Awesome Job

Excellent workmanship on these machines. Are any of the components off the shelf? I am especially interested
Retested in the wheel hubs and steering components. Keep it up, and thank you for the video.
That's crazy awesome!!
If we forget that there are common bikes, explorer is the best solution for offroading
Nice bike and concept for those who are paraplegic or not if for something more challenging. The low gear ration looks like it works well for the inclines but would be terrible on flat terrain. Are these single speeds?
Your A-arms are a thing of beauty.
Are you able to steer while cranking? How does that work, I bet the linkage is tricky.
I like this design, however, I would need it designed just like a regular trike where the seat is leaned back and to where I can potentially add an electric motor to this, is it able to be done, and for how much?
This bike looks like a good candidate for electric pedal assist. Also I really like the suspension system.
Some nice work.
Well done.
Thanks bro I needed the emotional pick up keep your head up
A 300 watt hub motor in the back wheel would really up the fun factor.
wonderful! that is great innovation!
thumbs up for the horse 3:58, going to look in to building one, or buy one. they look so amazing
Loads of engineering has gone in to that you can tell buy the way it performs
crazy guy. I loved. congratulations
ha thats neat mate. I recon that'd be a prime candidate for conversion to electric, particually a pedelec type one.
Also be a great upper body workout too!
Du free ride pour les personnes handicapés,super genial.....

+Niall Wildwoode There are those that need mechanical .assistants'
wow...such engineering...so impressive.
thanks!
SZACUNEK! :) na prawdę jestem pełen podziwu dla tego człowieka!
i wanna get one (im able to walk) it just looks like fun and a great muscle builder!
My thoughts the same, but if you look closely you'll see hes able to steer whiles pedalling, 0:55, that pad hes fastening with I guess nylon string/rope pivots. meaning you steer with your belly/chest.

well done. want this. waiting......from Kolkata, India, Asia
Awesome work guys. Love it!
Awesome video, awesome creation! That trike is something to be proud of. Great music choice too, can you tell me what track that is?
A gigantic THUMBS UP for you!!
that is really cool iam not handicapped and I would totally like to ride one of those things. I think it would be more fun for folks if it had like a little electrical motor to assist on going up really big hills.
How do ye control direction during paddle mode??? Cheers buddy..
That’s cool & all but how does one steer & pedal at the same time??🤔
Fantastic!!
Handicapped or not that looks like an awesome machine to ride XD I wish I could turn my mountain bike into something like that.
its high price brings a couple of questions. why does it have those awkward hand peddles? replace them with the hand crank designs i have been seeing, using a hand crank, and an arrangement of gears, this would be worth the price,

lets toss a 4000w hub motor on there with 72v 120AH batteries... I'm guessing a 250km range with 80+km/h speed. Take this thing to the next level.
+shawn hewitt make it both ways for those that like to go physical and those that don't,There s your answer
It is necesary to develope more and better.Good stuff
I understand it's made for handicapped people but really now that thing looks FUN!
Increible..una pasada.
Wouldn't it be better to do the steering with your chest, so you can crank (or whatever is the hand equivalent of pedal) it without having to loose steering control?
I'm not even handicapped and I want one.
Nice bit of kit but I think it needs an electric motor to really shine!
this is the original music :Foster The People - Pumped Up Kicks (Live in the Bing Lounge)
Great concept I'd like to see someone start competing in down hill races with those things.
This guy has got it figured out.
that is incredible!
How much? where can I get one? Like to expand this idea.
So youve no control on steering when you pedal with your hands? This is where the leaning front end might come in handy?
Mam i Ja 💪 . Życie smakuje na nowo zajebiście. Polecam
I want one so bad!
Btw, shouldn't the feet be pointing more to the back so the tips don't ride so close to the ground?
How much it cost in india? I want to buy this
me parece un invento extraordinario a mi hijo le serviría para pasear en la playa
great work, what to top machine.
This is amazing! What inspired you to do this?

How much and where can I get one?? I used to ride BMX before I broke my neck in 2006, never thought it'd be possible to ride again

BRAVO!!!!
I can walk but i still want one that's amazing
My wife wonders if it's available with OnStar!
screw notliking the music! this is a damn great video.
Is this Electric bike? Coz it run so fast
i thing thats good for those people who cant walk. :) GJ!
