    Honestly, I think that when he returns to pitching. He should return as a reliever. Keeping in mind that he has had two major arm surgeries at this point. He’s proven in the WBC that he can be a closer. I think that if he made the transition to a closer, his already star studded career, could become even more amazing. From all-star starter, to power hitter, to shutdown closer.

      Biggest issue is, unlike fields in japan, bullpen in US arenas are not connected to the dugout. So he will need to expend energy going to the bullpen and back. Also if lets say he is batting in the bottom of the 8th and he needs to pitch top of 9th he will have barely any warmup.

    • @ばん-u1h
      @ばん-u1h 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There had been a debate about this from he was in Japanese league, and the majority conclusion was that starter was the best.
      This was not because of the difference in value between a starter and a reliever, It was simple reason from the standpoint of conditioning.
      While starters can make planned adjustments according to the rotation, relievers are expected to scramble. This is a noticeable difference considering Ohtani's "play style".
      Ohtani could definitely serve as a reliever / closer, but if there is an opportunity to do so, it would be on some of final games in the regular season or any serieses, like in the WBC. Or, in the twilight of his career, he may emerge as an option for his no longer being an every-day player.

    • @ron88303
      @ron88303 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      He pitched 481 innings which, compared to the great pitchers, is at best about 2 seasons. Koufax pitched 2300 innings, and even that is low for a HOF pitcher. His stats are great for his small body of work, and maybe when he gets another 1,000 innings we can include him in the pitching conversation. He's a great hitter but there have been other better hitters, and he needs more plate appearances. If he continues to excel at both then he might warrant more serious consideration.
      I'm surprised that a non-casual fan who's been following baseball since the mid-fifties (diaper-free since 1956!) wouldn't come to the same conclusion.

    Thanks for this, it was a good insight into the early life of Shohei... thanks. I didn't watch all of it though and I thought since I assume TH-camrs always think about metrics, I thought I'd explain why I stopped.
    1) Match the graphics/graphs to the narrated commentary. There were multiple occasions where I found myself stopping, and going back to check out why what I was hearing somehow didn't correlate to what I was seeing, which reduced the impact of both on your audience. Here's one.. th-cam.com/video/ahn0fz0UwPY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ec26L_29mft4PO1O&t=26 for example. I couldn't understand the graphic while I was listening to the narration.. "Are these the 15 players?", "Are the bar graphs the number of consecutive games?" "Why is there an era graph here, am I missing something?" And that kills the flow of the video for some people....
    2) Compare apples with apples. Averages are averages and one-offs are one-offs. I live in Japan and watched him druing his HS years on TV at the HS championships...He wasn't "throwing 18mph faster", the threw one pitch at that speed (not even the fastest in history, Sasaki went over a mph quicker last year), but was many mph slower on average. His average fastball speed was amazing for a HS kid, yes, but not in the ways you suggest...
    ...and that is as far as I got into your video before I stopped, .....around 3 minutes.
    Why is this important?
    Some idiots like me who are really pedantic about disingenuous content (and the intricacies of language use) stop watching because they may think "the rest of this will be littered with the same"... rightly or wrongly... and It is a shame that you could get more view and subscribers from pedants like me otherwise.
