Turnips were one of the main basic root vegetable crops, here in Britain long before the introduction of potatoes from the Americas. I love turnips in roasts.
I ❤️ watching your videos 🧑🌾👩🍳. Your plants 🌱 always look so healthy and beautiful. I live in southern Kentucky and pests are always an issue here except during the cooler months. So, the plants tend to look on the rough side in combination with the high heat and humidity during the summers. I’m still a fairly new gardener (this being my first year growing in containers). I’ve learned a lot watching your videos. Would love to see more recipe videos as well. Thanks 🙏🏻 for sharing with us!!
For sure! Definitely planted too many in the container to begin with and then had some setbacks so always a good idea ☺️🌱 excited to try again this year!
So that makeshift fence didn’t work. Gardening can be frustrating. I’m giving it another try this year, last year my patio container garden was a fail. LOL Have you found a solution from the squirrels and dog? We don’t get squirrels, we have rabbits that come onto the patio and eat the seedlings.
Hi! Thanks for the comment. My dog got to a few things in my containers as I had to move them inside at the end of the fall season, it suddenly got very cold. So I can’t really blame her there I usually just watch her and teach her not to touch my plants haha it’s a learning process for her! As for squirrels, I’ve managed to keep some pesky squirrels away by sprinkling cayenne pepper around, peppermint, and using sticks as a barrier. They sometimes still come around but that has worked so far for me personally. I am located on a third story balcony, so I find it’s harder for them to get up to my garden, although a few still do!
I'm 4 weeks in with my deck container garden. The turnips are growing nicely. I don't think I left enough space with I thinned them 2 weeks ago. I'm not sure if I should thin them again at this point.
I definitely regret not spacing mine a bit better as in the end I only got 3 large sized turnips because of it - I would recommend thinning them unless you want more smaller sized turnips instead, but in my experience a few didn’t grow to full size at all due to spacing. Hope that helps!
Yes I’ve heard that too but never had any problems when transplanting mine! Done it many times haha also planted directly in the containers too - there are no rules 😉

Thank you 🧑🏾🌾🏡
That's awesome how you tracked the progress of growing 👍 What type of fertilizer did you use?
Thanks! I use Miracle Gro water soluble fertilizer and follow the package instructions ☺️🌱
Thank you 🙂

Squirrels hate bird netting. Try that.
Thanks for the tip!
Hmmm, I just we watched a video that grower said turnips do not like to be transplanted!!!
