I agree with you about tempo. It is marked andante, after all. It must be tempting to speed it up to emphasize the bouncy rhythm in the violins, but the drama, passion, heart, whatever you call it, should be in the chorus, not the strings. But I still gave it a thumb up.
In the Baroque period, slow tempos were faster and fast tempos slower than we generally perform them; therefore, this tempo is actually truer to how the piece would have been heard in Vivaldi's time. This is not Romantic period music and shouldn't be forced to comply with Romantic period notions, in my opinion.
