I'm so nervous for the train system because I live in California and literally don't use any trains or subways at all here lmao
You’re going to have an amazing time!! Download google maps and google translate, they will be your best friends! I’m from FL and we don’t have trains either haha the google map train directions are up to date and easy to follow. Get an IC card at the airport when you land and you can put that in your Apple wallet and it’s super easy to get into the stations. We downloaded a “Japanese for beginners” audiobook from the library and listened to it on the plane! That was enough to learn 5 key phrases or so. Definitely bring some comfortable walking shoes, we did 20k-30k steps a day 😱 everything is super walkable. A lot of things are still cash based so buy a coin purse and be prepared to exchange or pull out cash. My favorite planning app is Wanderlog, HIGHLY recommend! It’s free, you don’t need the pro version. So easy to stay organized. Apologies for the novel haha but hopefully it was helpful! Have fun!
