Hello mate. You look as though you know what your'e doing so heres my problem. I have a 2004 Hilux and have just installed locking hubs. On the front passenger side everything seems to work as it should. When i turn the hub to lock the CV shaft starts to turn as it should. However on the drivers side when i turn the hub to the lock position the CV shaft won't turn meaning the system stays in 'Freewheel' I tried taking it off and reinstalling it and the same thing happens. I've even tried taking both the locking hubs off on both sides to swap them over and reinstall them. Again the passenger side works (CV goes into lock and therefore i'm in 4WD) but the drivers side won't CV still stays in 'freewheel'. Any advice would be appreciated please mate. Thank You. Subscribed by the way

Hi mate. Sounds like a bit of a tricky one. First thing I would try is locking the LH hub and without the hub installed on the RH side and the transfer case in 4WD, try spinning the RH CV, it should be locked just like it would be in 4wd. This should confirm there are no issues with the CV itself. Did you buy the hubs new? Next possibility could be too much grease in the RH side. Take the outer locking assembly off and clean it really well. Also clean the hub where the locking cog slides in and out and apply some light lubricant. You dont want to use heavy grease as this will hinder the operation of the locking cog. While you have it apart, look carefully at the cog and how it is attached. The actuator spring should be seated fully in the groove of the cog as well as the locking cam. You should be able to hold the assembly with one hand and rotate the finger nut to the free position while preventing the cog from turning and the cog should be fully retracted. (against the flange of the locking assembly). When rotated to lock position, the cog should protrude about 1 1/2" from the flange without jumping off of the spring. I've seen this before, it's usually caused by lack of lubricant, dirty, or to much wheel bearing grease getting out to the locking cog making it hard to slide in and out causing the spring to jump out of its groove when unlocking the hub. When it's assembled and installed correctly, the spring is what actually moves the cog in and out. If the splines in the hub are not perfectly lined up, the spring pushes against the cog until the truck moves just a bit to line everything up, then click, it goes in. If the spring has come out of the groove in the cog, this will prevent the finger nut from turning completely to the lock position.
      Hope this helps.
