Great stuff Jay. Was there anything new to you which left a lasting impression...?
I'll make a video about this
I'm going to post something most if not all people with this hobby including the manufacturers and reviewers are not going to like. It does not come from jealousy since not so very long ago I could have afforded to buy anything at this show. This comes from the perspective of an engineer and a music lover who has enjoyed both live and recorded music all of my life. Not all of it, but enough of it to make me have an lifelong affinity for it. I am not an audiophile in the sense that most of you understand the term.
What you achieve often depends on what you set out to accomplish and the knowledge and skill you have to reach a goal. In this industry, once the novelty of being able to record sound and play it back wore off the counterparts of today's audio engineers at the time compared the live music they heard with their results and found them extremely disappointing. The effort to close the gap began. The first attempt I'm aware of at high fidelity came from the Fisher radio company in 1939 although there may have been earlier attempts. There were many technological landmarks along the way including the long playing microgroove phonograph record and the stereophonic phonograph record introduced in 1957 by Western Electric division of AT&T with the Westrex 45/45 cutter. By 1958 this came to be the technology of choice for those who enjoyed listening to recordings. So what I'm about to say has genuine context to back it up. Although the way in which two channel stereophonic sound has been implemented has changed drastically since that time, the concept behind it hasn't changed one jot. This in an era when every other technology has changed to the point where the technology of today would be unrecognizable to a Rip Van Winkle who fell asleep in 1958 and just woke up. He might marvel at the many innovations such as the digital compact disc, transistors, and other changes but the system would be entirely familiar to him. Not so with anything else.
So what was the original goal? These engineers at the largest companies recorded many types of music they'd heard live. Some of them, popular music was a changing mode of the time but the best of it is still remembered for its qualities such as melody, orchestration, artistry. But more serious music where it became a fine art, jazz, classical music, operas, pipe organs and choral works have stood the test of time for one or several centuries. Heard at suitable live venues unamplified, the best of them in the best places to hear them became the most prized of all music. Duplicating their sounds was the goal this industry originally worked at. And I'm sorry to say that after all of the time, effort, and money invested in solving this as a scientific understanding and an engineering challenge this problem has beaten everyone in this industry to a pulp. Their ideas have consistently failed. That's a technical fact. They don't even pretend anymore. Many say it can't be done. What's my opinion is that for the most part the quality of music written in recent decades has deteriorated to the point where if that's all there was I wouldn't care, a boombox would be more than sufficient for me.
I genuinely hope everyone out there enjoys this hobby but the praise lauded on its most admired gurus whether manufacturers or reviewers is IMO totally unjustified. This equipment may have met your expectations but it has completely failed mine.
Thanks Jay for the trip , I enjoyed the the show !
Thank you

Always Germany is better show than USA 😎
Agreed.
No interviews ? No product reviews ? Just walking around. Not what I was expecting to be honest. I don't see any value in watching this. Please don't at me people. You have your opinion. I'm entitled to mine
Ok
