KNI 667 was briefly used in the second season episode "Brothers Keeper". They were trying to evade the police because of a false APB. I have all four seasons on DVD and watch one episode every Friday. Knight Rider was one of two non-sitcom, non-cartoons I watched as a kid on NBC.
I've seen kitt before, but it didn't have the iconic steering wheel, but it still had the awesome interior and all of its lights and sounds
As far as the license plate flipping, in one episode KITT was being pursued by a state trooper because an APB was issued. Michael pressed the "Lic. Plate" button and flipped the plate, kinda like a James Bond maneuver. Once the KNI 667 plate was revealed the trooper called off the pursuit. This part of the episode was cut out of the syndication reruns. Its the second season episode title "BROTHER'S KEEPER"
Diamond select toys made the exclusive kitt,non exclusive kitten,karr,kitt's evil prototype,and spm kitt from season 4. But,my all time favorite version of kitt is his convertible mode. Diamond Select Toys needs to go back and made that version of kitt with his top down and that back piece that sits directly behind the front seats and stretches back to the trunk. Now that would be a totally freaking awesome version of a diamond select toys knight rider kitt car to have.
KNI 667 was featured only once in the original format (same as on dvd) of the episode "Brothers Keeper" in Season 2. The Hotwheels Elite KITT also features the changing plate.
I left my Micheal Knight completely strapped in the car! Otherwise I agree, I was hoping it would be bigger and have more of a size likeness to the figure I had back in the 80s. Ah well, at least Knight Rider is having a revival on multiple toy lines! :D
That was a very good review JT, there actually IS a way to make the stickers look better but it takes some work to get the effect right, I posted my video response on how I modded my K.I.T.T. dash to better enhance the details of the decals -
Also KNI 667 is from the Season 1 episode "Brothers Keeper" where Michael switches KITT's plate to avoid detection. I really enjoy my DST 1:15 K.I.T.T. and I agree some things could have been better but they have to work within budget to keep prices down.

You should get an display case for it to keep finger prints and dust off it. It can be hard to get dust off the interior. Cases usually go for 7$.

one of the best shows wen i was a kid and in one of the episodes peter cullen was guest voice as the "evil kitt" as i called and it wasnt til years later i watched it again and apperantly the people who made kitt made the prototype military model firt that went rogue and kitt was the second model
The Pros:it lights up with working scanner and uses many lines from the tv series...The cons:very cheap plastic chassis,not opening headlights,hood or trunk...Since youre a HotWheels fan,get the HotWheels version and see for yourself...its good to have both versions this talking one and the other of HotWheels with all the details if youre of course a true Knight Rider fan...
I'm missing the Super Pursuit Mode, but I guess this would be a toy of its own.
OH...and maybe DST will offer window tinting as an option on the SPM version...but you have to get it with the premium package that comes with molecular bonded shell, undercoating and floormats...Haha!
Yes, there's a Super Pursuit Mode coming and a KARR variant with the silver paint job and KARR vanity plate.
Makes me wish they made 'BACK TO THE FUTURE - MARTY AND DOC' figures for the Diamond Select deloreans!
It is a toy anyway.. And the hood scoop is the way it is because they will use the same part to do a super pursuit version of KITT. DST will simply attach a super pursuit style hood scoop in that slot.. A good way to cut cost since remolding a different hood would only make it cost more...

Yeah, that stands out to me too. I keep trying to tell myself that I’m being too picky in being bothered by it, but the KITT body is so smooth that the toy’s excessively harsh definition lines do stand out.
Great review man! That just brought me back to my childhood. Knight Rider was one of my fav shows. Now if Diamond Select would do a version of the General Lee from Dukes Of Hazard my childhood would be complete.
i wish they came out with figures for the TV shows Mantis (figure and vehicle) & the car from VIPER (especially if they made it with the silver grid looking "armor" mode).
for the head they had to make it slightly off if he didn't agree ti them using his likeness
Looks kind of like a stunt double for Michael at a distance, if he takes off the jacket he could be the double for Baywatch for the waist up scenes with that tight shirt he has.
There's a short sound list: engine noise, engaging/disengaging blower, low fuel warning, "I'm just here for the gasoline", "You want to get out of here? You talk to me.", "The arrangement was I wouldn't kill you. I reckon you got a bargain, didn't you?", "The last of the V8 Interceptors... a piece of history! Would've been a shame to blow it up.", EXPLOSION. Put the rest of the budget into super-detailing

Great review! Cool toy! Before I voice a few minor criticisms of it tho...I'd like to mention I have a video on my Channel Knight Rider fans might enjoy. Its a "voice tweaked" version of KITT from the GE Locomotive commercial. I "adjusted" it so it sounds more like KITT did 30 yrs ago and less like Mr.Feeny. On the toy. Very nice but the hood shouldve been molded as one piece. The snap on scoop doesnt look right and is too tall also. T-tops and hatch needed darker tint. Otherwise I like it!
hey jt im not sure if you know already or not but diamond select has come out with a back to the future 3 delorean it has the train wills the big thing on the hood and is made to look like its covered in dust it looks pretty cool to me .
Thanks for a good, useful, fair-minded review. You don’t waste time blathering on like some people but you do cover all that I wanted to know. I agree with your assessment overall, a fine product. You’re right, it’s a pity that the figure is so undersized. I could probably have forgiven the sculpting shortcomings, it is at least recognizable as the character, but having 6’4” famously tall Michael Knight be represented by a shrimp who can’t even reach his steering wheel was a cheap-out choice by the makers that kills the fun of the figure. I’d rather have had a cruder sculpt or less articulation in the right scale.

Hasselhoff is abt 1.93m in height... To have a figure in scale with the car, they should've done a 5" figure at least which would've been closer to scale with the car. And yes, the figure that comes with this KITT would go closer to scale with a 1/18 scaled KITT car, the new 1/18 KITT from Hot Wheels Elite comes to mind....

Correct.. its from that episode. And coincidentally, the feature is present on both hot wheels and diamond select kitt. Except the license plate feature on the hot wheels elite kitt feels a lot more fragile, i try not to mess around with the license plate feature on my elite kitt too much..

The 3"3/4 figure, as bad as it is, would look pretty good next to the 1/18 Hot Wheels K.I.T.T.
I wish Diamond Select would make a Robocop Ford Taurus... Flat black paint, working light bar & siren. Oohhh yes.
I am still hoping for a DST Ecto 1, or even better an Ecto 1A someday.

ahhh i don't think i watched that cause it didn't bring back the Trans-Am body...i was ok with the Futuristic version having a different body cause i would assume salvaging an intact Trans-Am body would be a little more difficult...and a relic compared to the tech they would be able to use at that moment in time. lol

I already have the regular one that came without a figure.. I have this on order, still waiting for it, and as I had expected and feared, the 3 3/4" figure of Michael Knight is too small for the 1/15 KITT.. But this toy is like a modern take on the classic Kenner Knight 2000 Voice Car, I just wish the figure was more to scale with the car, otherwise its really cool..
The "rotating license plate" is from the episode where the police is looking for KITT after help Michael and other guy escape from prison, "Brother´s Keeper" season two episode 3.
That Knight Rider KITT car is better than the original Knight 2000 voice car by Kenner, unlike the Knight 2000 voice car the sensor light works and have working fog lamps, tail lamps and KITT's gadgets lights up and his voice box lights up when he talks.
Good point on the hood. Easier to change to SPM. I was never a fan of that feature. Some aspects of the show and car were plausible or could be at some point...but 300+mph in the city without hitting something and the tires held the road? Maybe with hot tar on them! SPM - a group of street guys rebuilds a high tech turbine car that took teams of scientists years to develop and adds airplane style airbrakes and aerodynamics. LOL! Least we didn't have to hear Hoff sing the opening theme...ROFL!!!

So I just looked up the old Kenner KITT my cousin had when I was lil... wow.... $159. Yeah, for $60 I think I'd go for this. How's the dash? It look ok? Also any neat features like light up scanner?

Hey buuddy, a lil FYI, if u're seriously worried about fingerprints on KITT, wear Powder-Free Rubber Gloves, they actually have 'em n black. So no worries, there. How do like them crab apples? When, u're actually waxin a BIG vehicle, u wanna wear rubber gloves, so the same concept applies there, 2. So, there's that tadbit of info., 2!!!
Too bad it doesn't play the theme song, that would've sold me on it. I'd like to see them try some Batmobiles, or maybe the V8 Interceptor from Mad Max

Uh, I noticed the hood does not open on urs, but mine does. Not 2 b braggin of course, but KITT's engine shows twin turbos, AARGH AARGH more power, rite? I also wish the headlites were functional, 2 DAMNIT! BUT, oh well. Overall, GRRRREAT review of KITT & Michael Knight, & uh, good job!!!!!!!!!

Btw, on my KITT toy, the T-tops r removable, & the back hatch opens BUT here's the part that's gonna blow ur freakin mind! Ready 4 this, wait for it....... KITT has 3 pedals. As far back as I can remember, KITT NEVER wuz stick shift, xcept 4 the '08 Mustang KITT.

You can make your own T-tops, if your pretty crafty, but it has to be done good and carefully. Otherwise, it will be destroyed.
