Yep, it's not that easy as it seems. Some of my attempts to make a good track failed too. But for this one I was able to make a great sounding track with same chord progression actually. It's interesting how different producers go different directions having started with same chords. Please check it out: th-cam.com/video/mfnb_b2LiqU/w-d-xo.html
I re-created this to be a full 3-minute track using the same/similar sounds with my own structure change. It got me going in synthwave and now I have over half a dozen releases on streaming platforms all thanks to randomly watching this video in late 2019.
You cant tell me, that synthwave is the most epicly relaxing genre ever discovered. You would be living under a rock under a staple that holds you to your emotions, drifting into darkness.

some cool synthwave VSTs I use are Ob-xd, PG-8X, Dexed, MinimogueVA, SQ8L and Prophanity. They're free, sound decent yet maybe not exact emulations of the original synthesizers, unfortunately.
PG8X is wonderful. It doesn't sound *exactly* like the JX8P, but it's close enough, and it's like having a JX-8P with the PG-800. Another good one to throw in the mix is TAL Bassline 101 and U-NO-LX. Both have free and paid versions. TAL also has the U-NO Chorus as a standalone plug-in. I use it on a lot of stuff. I'm not a fan of MinimogueVA, the filters don't have the Moog thing imo. Also, toss in Synth1 because it's a free plugin, and even though it's styled like a Nord Lead which came later, it has Unison that sounds wonderful. My one big beef with OB-XD is there's no Host Sync for the LFO.
I know I'm late but I just want to say how much I love your videos and how you don't add unnecessary stuff to make it 10+ minutes and get straight to the point. Great work man

This is so great. It took me about 40 minutes to finish what's in the video. I know just barely enough to be able to follow along, and I'm super happy with the results. Definitely going to keep playing around with it and make something a bit more unique. Thanks for a fantastic tutorial!

Thank you Praxi. Thank you so much for making this video. If this video hadn't popped up in my feed back in November of 2018, I probably never would've considered making synthwave music. I love the sound of the 1980's. Synthwave is awesome. And 80s type sounds work great in other electronic music genres.
I fell in love with this sound from hotline Miami’s soundtrack. I appreciate this video. I always wanted to create my own synthwave since I heard it.
