Painting under the bumper in the same colour as the body is genius. I have not seen any other TH-cam diecast channel do that. Awesome work, keep it up!
Thanks for the comment and watching Robert I appreciate it :)
@@SidewaysKing75 ; I am amazed how much this relatively little change in addition to painting the lights etc make it look like a model and not just a toy, awesome work.
Another great restoration! Again, your customization is SO much better than just restoring original appearance! Beautiful work! You have inspired me to try to find any of my old Matchbox or Hot Wheels and give this a try! Great job!
Thank you again it's appreciated. Its more interesting having played with them 30+ years ago. I've done the decal tutorial how if you check out my other videos👍🏻. All the best
@@SidewaysKing75 Yep, found it, great video! Thanks and please keep em coming!
Love seeing your craftsmanship both on the cars, and in your editing and thoughtful processes. Can’t wait to see the next video!
Thank you very much it's really appreciated 👍🏻
Chris, my brother had a 72 Maverick Grabber that was blue as I remember it. You take your diecast builds to a level that makes them models and no longer just Hot Wheels or Matchbox cars. I truely appreciate you sharing your talent and skills with us. Thank You !
Thanks Chris.... Whilst I don't protest to know a great deal about US Muscle Cars what I do know is I like what I like and the whole 60s, 70s and some 80s era for these types of car I love. Most, if not all, I have never seen with my own eyes being very rare in the UK and only ever at US themed car shows. They are aonly probably Mustangs and the odd Charger at that so a Maverick to me is ultra rare!
Thanks as always for watching and commenting..... I need to do another Muscle Car now.
This one looks fab too, I'm never going to get sick of watching you make these detailed customs, they're great!
Thank you..... Ill endeavour to keep upping my game :)
Yes, the extra paintwork under the bumper sets it off.. Brill
Thank you 😁👍🏻
Love what you did with the Maverick I had 2 of the real car and 2 of the Mercury Comets so you brought back some fond memories they were the poor man's Mustang at the time since they were on the same chassis.
Thank you and WOW..... I'm envious you had those. They're exotica to me and you're not the first to mention that analogy of a poor man's Mustang. I'd never had thought that as I actually love the look of the Maverick 👍🏻
SidewaysKing75 Thanks I've been trying to find another one now but now people dont let them go but back in the 80s you could pick them up for $600- $800 dollars since a lot of people were getting into the euro cars , now you have companies specializing in mods for these cars .
@@danielaguero3766 I know that feeling.... Similar over here, when the cars were nothing more than rot boxes or newer, modern technology overshadowed the once king of the hill, there was a lot of bargains to be had. Fast forward to now and some of those similar priced £500 motors are fetching astronomical amounts. Again fast Ford's.
SidewaysKing75 Isnt it awkward how that works, hope you find one at some time they are fun , and funny thing is I had more fun in my automatic transmission Maverick with a 302 than I did in my manual trans ones well brother have yourself a nice day and I'll keep watching to see what your doing next.
@@danielaguero3766 thank you and you my friend 😁👍🏻
Glad I'm not the only one who throws die cast cars in with the wife's groceries!
I'd like to get in to 1:64 customising but with the range of wheels and price of them, plus setting myself up with paints and printers for decals etc, I'd be building $20-30 matchbox cars!
This guy is the best at this stuff...I watch tons of these 1:64 restore/custom videos. You're the best hands down.
WOW thank you very, very much I truly appreciate those words. Its great comments like this that keep me going. All the best :)
You got a new subscriber.
Awesome artwork.
Like in real life the rims make such a big difference for the complete look.
Also the little details.
Would love to see a Mercedes 190Dtm and Bmw E30 Dtm makeover 😃
Thank you very much I appreciate that! Please look at my other videos as I've already done the 190E DTM 👍🏻
Please people get this guy more subscribers. He’s head and shoulders ahead of the other guys who do this. Them fine little details make all the difference. 🖤 your work bro!
That's made my day.....thank you my friend🙏🏻
Honestly your work is wicked. You seem to pick the right cars swell 👍🏾
@@topboy1894 Thanks!!! I've got all my childhood cars to restore and boy there's alot. With a boat load of other random purchases over the last 20years on top of that I've plenty to keep me entertained until well into my twilight years. All I need is time..... and paint 😂
Great build. I really like the editing and voice over as well.
Thank you. One thing everyone hates is the sound of their own voice..... I cringe at that bit :) Thanks for watching!
Mate it RC, when are you going to do a hot wheels?
@@mitchellrobinson9810 Maybe one of these days I'll do a Hot Wheels build.
Love the vids
The little details you added are superb. Painting the bumper. The seamless black line along the side. Great work. Subscribed
Thank you very much its appreciated :)
What I love the most about working with model cars, all the memories. This is perfect for me when I was high school my friend has a 68 Camaro we were uptown on the loop and a ford maverick pulled up and want to race. he laughed and we headed to the area to drag. We were in the left lane and I was the passenger. I counted down and when that maverick launched the front tires nearly left the pavement. It was a grabber with a built up 302 that car was very fast. hahha oh yes it was green also. thanks doe the great video and memory. have a great day
Wow love it.... I too like all the memories 😁 Thank you very much for sharing 👍🏻
I really am agog at your attention to detail. Absolutely first class. I am intrigued by the polycarb paint, I may have to investigate that further.
Great work sir, thanks for sharing the experience.
Thanks again for the comment Pete. The paint goes on a treat, dare I say it a more thicker coat with less spray. A bit of lacquer on top to harden and shine it and it comes out a treat 👍
You have mastered the small details that take your custom builds to another level. Respect!
Thank you very much 🙏🏻
The Maverick Grabber looks AWESOME.
Keep up the great work.
Looks great I haven't heard or seen anything about a Maverick GRABBER in over 30 years Thanks 4 sharing
Thanks for watching! 😁👍🏻
Those little extra details really are something else, Very nicely done.
Thanks Rob :)
All I can say is WOW! You do outstanding work. Very impressive, I hope my restorations look half as good as yours do.
Thanks again I appreciate it. I'm sure yours will turn out mint 👌🏻
Just love it better than any die cast customization I ever saw, just work on making the wind screen a bit clearer and shiner
Great job on this and the Escort. Love the simple hacks like after market wheels, poly tubes for lowering, painting chassis fore and aft in body colour. Great video quality too.
Thank you David for the nice comments it's appreciated. All the best 👍
Excellent job, love the detail and color 👍
Thank you Charles 😁
It's those details which make these beauties, absolute stunning work and every video is worth watching from begin to end!
Thanks as always 👍🏻
I like how much detail you put into these very different than other channels
That's a fine example of a custom restorationI really like yoyr work!
Thank you Paul for the comment. Plenty more to come 😁
Brand new looks great with those wheels too
Thank you 👍
I love this car. One of my first cars was a 71 Mercury Comet GT. It was the gold color you started off with. The front lower air dam was usually black.
Oh wow.... I bet there was great memories in that 👍🏻
Awesome video! You should invest in maybe an airbrush and some paint thinners to get a real clear smooth even coat! Also maybe invest in a dremel with a buffer wheel to get a nice polish!
Thank you! I have both but don't always use them on everything. Newer castings like this don't warrant a polish for what I want to do but the older, knackered ones I certainly have to do. The airbrush again is down to colours and nothing else. If I have something similar in a spray can I'll use that, if not I'll get mixing. Thanks for watching 👍🏻
Really great detailing! I also like the idea of making your own logo for the side of the car! Awesome! I'll have to remember that when I get my channel going. Still saving for a new camera though...
Thank you its appreciated. I've subscribed in anticipation of your builds my friend.
I've done a couple already, just haven't been able to get any on video yet. But I should be able to get started after the first of the year sometime. Gives me some time to get a few more tools together & repair my man cave so I can work in it. Gonna be sweet!
Love the video nice model of a Ford super van in the background have not see one for years used to have one in my collection used to have all of the matchbox cars in the boxes wean i was a kid sould of keep them but my mum got rid of them
I think that was the fate of most of them, left behind and parents getting rid. A bit like Toy Story LOL! Thankfully they've followed me everywhere 😁
Really liked the Sideways King decals on the rear fenders! Great job on this car! You are now my favorite toy car channel.
Fantastic! I love that your placed your own logo on the back end. Great work!
Thank you.... it'd be rude not too hey 😁
Another great custom, loving the personalised decals.
Thank you Raymond..... I doing the decals, that's my geek spot right there 😁
Another fantastic Custom SK .... very inspirational 👍
Glad you like it 😁
Amazing job 👍 So relaxing to watch. Much love from Belgrade Serbia. Cheers
Thank you very much my friend its appreciated :)
Awesome work once again!
Thanks as always Sharon .... Much appreciated 😁
@@SidewaysKing75 you are welcome! Keep on your brilliant work.
Really enjoy these videos!
Thank you..... more coming soon 😁
Have just hit that bell !! Absolutely brilliant tutorial and the way you're particular to fine detail.Having watched others you have the possibility of being the next Marty's matchbox makeovers here in the UK.
Haha love it 'hit that bell!", Literally choked with laughter. Wow! Such a nice comment I really appreciate it. There's lots in editing so plenty more to come..Thank you for the comment!
Great stuff. Loving the videos. Nice to see someone getting great results with tamiya spray cans. Hope for us all yet
I do have my moments though believe me LOL!
@@SidewaysKing75 a blooper reel in th3 offing then ?
Another winner, watch those subscribers go up...
Thanks my friend :)
This is the Bob Ross of 1:64 car customs.
Haha that's great thanks! :) All the best and thanks for watching !!
The wheels absolutely finish that car off perfectly.
They are a great scale aren't they. As another guy has commented the writing does look a bit to big and out of scale but otherwise the rims and tyre wall depth suit the era perfectly. Thanks for watching :)
Your details are on serious point. Awesome!
Thank you so much Stacey 🙏🏻
Another great job. As long you having fun doing this, I will keep watching it. You need to do a 80's Porsche.
Thanks again for watching:) I am having fun for sure and just remembering to pick the camera up again at times I forget. I do have a few Porsche's from Hot Wheels and Matchbox..... The dilemma is which one to create and start..... Rally 959, Martini 911 Le Mans, Jagermeister ....... Its a tough one
@@SidewaysKing75 Le Mans of course.
Nice way to restore an old Hotwheels! Great job Man
Thank you :)
Nice color choice, came out great.
Thanks Enrique 😁
Another quality mod! I noticed that you have a Dixie Challenger. If you wanna give it back its original look, the Redline shop has both sets of decals, the ones that have the Dixie flag on the roof top and the one with the other design on the rooftop.
Thank you and for the heads up with the Redline Shop...... Its another well used childhood favourite always standing in as the General Lee :)
Mine also stood in as the General. Tho, now it's black. In dire need of restoration.
@@chassegallerie2910 I'm sure there was a black one in an episode once...... or did I dream that?
Maybe. I wouldn't know. I haven't seen the serie for over 30 years.
Nice! Just finish a newer Maverick with the fender mirrors. I cut them off and did some detailing. Came out nice
Great stuff .... love to see it 👍🏻
The Maverick was a great little car. I had a 72 and used to take that sucker 4 wheeling in the hills and backroads to go fishing! I like the color and those wheels are cool! You could also use brass tubing. It's a bit more expensive but it does last longer than the plastic especially if you give it to your grandson to play with.
I bet you had great fun in it! Brass tube also a winner yes👍🏻
Awesome work. Very talented.
Thank you :)
Hi, it's amazing how you do these modifications on this little scale ! The cars you made look so real and I can imagine you must have cool hands doing this at the 1/64 scale. I tried to paint on my HotWheels the head and taillights and grills, sometimes with great success, sometimes not. I thing I don't have the tiniest paint brushes for an excellent result. Greetings!
Thank you Helmut its appreciated. Patience is the only real skill you need to master I guess at any scale. Things don't often go to plan but as long as you're chilled and enjoying it then it will all come good. I find having some music you like in the background on, good lighting and a decent set of fine brushes and you'll be fine :) Thanks for watching.
Gotta love some racing stripes on a car..another great restoration!
Yes, as basic as stripes are they do look great on the right car. Thanks for watching.
not a car i'd heard of before, but it's got me on the hunt for one.love the transformation, very neat.
Thank you very much
Those were some good fun fast cars to drive specially with the 4 speed
If they went half as good as they looked then I bet they were great fun 😁👍🏻
Wow. Amazing work!
Thanks Michael :)
This channel is awesome. Can’t wait for new videos!!!
Thank you for watching. Plenty more to come.
No problem. Cheers!
very nice restauration good video
Thank you Clash :)
These have been turned into small model cars. Very cool!
Thanks Jerry. I've tried to bring them to life more. Appreciate the comment :)
Beautifully done
Thank you its appreciated :)
Great Job! Your detail work is outstanding. Looks like the paint on the car could of used some polishing to even out the look. But overall I would rate this one A+
Thanks for the comment and watching I appreciate it :)
Awesome! Really enjoy these. Honestly the best HW makeovers on the youtubes!
Wow! Thank you. Its really appreciated. Plenty more to come:)
TH-cam suggested the Escort video and i have to say that this is probably the best custom diecast channel i have found! Will definetly subscribe! And one more thing, could you please make a video on how you make hose little stops at the end of the wheel axels?
Thank you very much it is appreciated :) I have lots of ideas for more tutorials too so thanks for the suggestion.
SidewaysKing75 that sounds awesome! :)
Looks absolutely beautiful!
Thank you its appreciated :)
Wow just amazing work.
Thank you my friend 😁
you make it look so easy....i feel like a fool strugling with spraycans and so on
No don't feel like that my friend. Enjoy every minute of it, don't rush, soak it in, it's as much of a relax and chill as anything. Stick with it 👍
i enjoy your vids and also my own attemps but then i think why didnt i detail the base with the bodycolor instead of keeping it Original. simple thing to do, but it makes a realy big difference...thanx for showing@@SidewaysKing75
How do you find the polycarbonate paint? With it being designed to go on the inside of body shells I find it doesn't last when used on outside.
Perfect, had no issues at all. I do lacquer it afterwards though.
Your car's look so great when finished
Thank you very much :)
Very cool, love to see your videos on making decals.
I'll get one added in a 'How to series' .... Thanks for watching 👍🏻
Wow. It's is INSANE how much your channel has blown up. But you deserve it and hopefully you keep doing more.
I Know, I cant quite believe it myself! Thank you for watching and commenting :)
@@SidewaysKing75 no problem and hope to see more :)
Might be worth looking here on TH-cam at some other channels on how to polish out the original windscreens you might be surprised at just how well they can be restored.
Thanks Loki..... I know how to do it, I'm just not a fan of coloured screens at all t be honest. The vast majority of my old ones have also discoloured and are too far gone with scrapes and cracks. Thanks for the heads up :)
@@SidewaysKing75 Yeah I'm not a fan of the coloured screens either tbh. Clear ones are definitely worth trying to save unless they're too far gone.
I just found your channel and I like your approach to reconditioning these cars. On most channels, guys use an airbrush, but I like the idea of a spray can because it's a cheaper barrier to entry and I can decide if restoring cars is for me without laying out much money. Btw, what made you go with the polycarbonate paint? Tamiya also has enamel and acrylic. I don't know much about different paint types so any help is appreciated.
Thanks Brian its appreciated. I do have an airbrush but its often such a faff for not a lot of time, so if there's a paint in a can I have I'll use it. I have plenty of spray cans stock piled from years of model building, the Polycarbonate one was simply the lairy colour I wanted for this build and no other rhyme or reason to it :) I;d used it on a plastic model and sprayed some other metal parts in the past and as long as I lacquered it afterwards it was good. I also use plenty of car body paint, as again the list is endless. Give it a go :)
@@SidewaysKing75Thanks for the help. I'm going to try out the Tamiya spray cans.
Very nice. Had a friend had one of those back in the day ✌🏻
Thanks Jeff. I used to race one every day to work. One day we bumped into each other at a Ford RS Owners Club meeting and became friends. Good times :)
Fantastic . You make great jobs. Super restorations. I had seen the other videos too.

Great build love the detail
That's the exact color of my maverick when I was in high school. 🐸
Cool taste then my friend :)
Nice job there and great video, im going to check out afew more of your vids. Ive been doing customs myself for a couple of years now, i tend to do hotwheels/matchbox/corgi mashups and ive had some decent results, seeing vids like this inspire me to do more.
Thank you its appreciated. I'm a big fan of mashups too. Its good to get the creative juices flowing :) Thanks for watching
Beautiful, the wheels make all the difference.
Thanks its appreciated :)
Great job! I use to own a '71 Comet GT, the Mavrick's brother here in Canada . It had the V8 with automatic transmission and I had it painted Colyspo Coral ,a red ford colour. Many fond memories of that car. Your work is amazing, just found a new release of this here last month ,my next project....Thanks for the inspiration 👍
I need to redo my workspace. Can you tell us about yours? Where did you buy the table itself and where did you get the storage?
They're all work benches in my garage I got from Machine Mart (in the UK). All the storage is pretty cool made for modelling from Hobby Zone which is all modular and you can buy as little or as much as you like..... Its fantastic. I'll mention it in future videos....... Heres the link www.hobbyzone.pl/
You have inspired me! Do you have any links for drill and tap set and what primer and spray paint did you use?
Thanks my friend. When I use primer I use the grey Halfords car primer and generally use Tamiya TS (plastics) and PS (polycarbonate) spray paints, though do mix my own up for the airbrush as well with Tamiya X and XF paints.
For the tap I got it off Ebay ..... www.ebay.co.uk/itm/M2-x-0-4mm-THREAD-TAP-TAPER-SECOND-PLUG-SET-by-US-PRO-TOOLS-HSS-thread-repair/261804980809?hash=item3cf4cafa49:g:83gAAOSwkLhaEChS:rk:2:pf:0
For the tap and die set I purchased it from Machine Mart www.machinemart.co.uk/p/cht203-16-pce-tap-die-set/
I'll make sure I'll link them all at the top in the future so thanks for the headsup.
Happy customising :)
Fantastic work, keep it up
Thanks Thomas
Another awesome job. Though I didn't see how you glue the wheels to axles.
Fantastic work!
Thanks Phil, its appreciated :)
Please make a video about new styrene windows. Great job from RSA
I will yes. Theres a bit more in my latest project soon to be uploaded, but I will make a 'how to' on the windows separately. Thanks for watching 👍
Joburg?
Hein where do you get parts from?
Hi there just got into doing custom cars and would like to know do you use acrylic or enamel paints for detailing.
Hi there, I do use both but would probably say I use more Acrylics over the enamels purely because the Acrylics feel thinner and not as heavy loaded up on the brush.
Excellent work!
Thank you Fernando :)
Had a 'regular' mav in 83 with the straight 6, fun car. Always figured they were a reckoning for what the falcon or mustang would have been had they not gotten so fat since their inception. Always envious that the falcon continued so long in Australian market, only became aware of that with the mad max movie. Good looking model.
Thanks Ken. Its a great car, alas never seen here in the UK. The only thing nearest to it at the time was the Ford Capri. They were great cars though :) Thanks for watching.
Hello from the Isle of Man! Stunning work! Just discovered your channel, instant sub.
Thank you Sir its very much appreciated :)
I love the old Mavericks, I owned one when I was a teenager and I had a lot of fun in that car

@@SidewaysKing75 I'm the same way about Cortina and escorts. Lol
@@thescalemodelcarguychannel8681 😁😁 and Capris..... I love an old Capri. But my all time favourite is the Sierra Cosworth. I had two many years ago, not the RS500, but the 3 door and the Sapphire 2wd.

Awesome custom. The Grabber Green looks the part, Harvest Gold belonged on appliances not cars.
Haha love it..... I think my Gran had an oven the same colour LOL !
Nice 👌 great tutorial
Thank you very much :)
Nice video. How do you do the details and trim? You must have a very steady hand. A tip for the drill vice, tape or glue leather strips to the jaws. They have enough "give" to keep from scratching the casting, but are firm enough to hold everything solidly. Keep the videos coming, can't wait to see what you do next.
hi may i know what size screw do u use to put the diecast back together? please advise! thanks!
Certainly I use an 1.5mm drill bit to create a hole then use an M2 tap to create the thread. I use M2 screws of various lengths but mainly M2x5 length..... I've a 'how to' video on my channel explaining more 👍🏻
