    I’ve done dry January/sober October before and like Sarah said-it’s never an issue of having physical cravings for alcohol, it’s always the ritual of having a drink you miss.

    I have tried a few and the Spiritless Kentucky 74 is the closest for the whisky replacement in cocktails. It is on the sweeter side but it does actually have a good oak flavor. I was always put off by others, like Monday and Ritual, because it uses capsaicin to try and replace that alcohol bite

    I'm reminded of O'Douls N/A beer. My dry January is spread out over the year to coincide with my work schedule. 5-7 days off then 7 days on. It works the same with diet food just abstain until you can enjoy the real thing.

    What I foudn about these substitutes is that they are never going to be the same as the full proof ones because of the burn from alcohol. Many people I talked to about it say they "expect the burn" when trying to drink. 2nd, All these bottles are not to be drank on the rocks or without mixing. They all say it should be mixed. So when you drink it neat, you don't end up having the good side of it. I did an experiment once and I served it to some friends as normal cocktails. They could definitely tell there was no alcohol but when there is no expectation, they were extremely happy wiht what they had. They even ask me for one every time we hang out.

    Bitters, including fee brothers black walnut) have alcohol. About as much as a flavored vodka or spiced rum. The reason they can be sold in places where hard liquor can't (like grocery stores in my state) is because they are considered nonpotable like vanilla extract. A dash or two won't get you drunk because of how little you are using but if you want to have ZERO alcohol, avoid bitters.

    That "birthday cake" flavor is most likely vanillin, which these days is significantly easier/cheaper to produce than actual vanilla flavor.

    Never heard of non-alcoholic whisky and was very excited when I saw the title. Reason being that last year I discovered that my beloved bourbons are causing my blood pressure to spike, specifically due to either kidneys or liver reaction to alcohol. So I am completely off alcohol now, even beer, which is still a small price to pay for living without drugs. Too bad the taste was rather disappointing for neat drinking. But on the other hand, I suppose it must be loaded with sugar anyways. So even if it did taste good, it would still be not a healthy option for a health nerd that I am turning into.

      Try some good teas. They aren't the same, but you can get very complex and sometimes overlapping flavor profiles. Yunnan black tea especially is a favorite region of mine

      @@josiahsterling7308 Yunnan tea is delicious, especially when they add extra melamine and heavy metals in there.... seriously, get that stuff tested in a lab before consuming any more of it. Why would a person mix bitters, which typically contains alcohol, with a non-alcoholic spirit?

    • @Fanta....
      @Fanta.... 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      because it's such a low amount it doesn't matter. 2.5ml of bitters(standard serve) at 35-45% ABV is less than 100 microlitres of pure alcohol. for perspective, one standard drink in Australia is 12,500 Microliters of pure alcohol (standard 30ml shot) This is 1/125 of a standard drink you are mixing into anywhere from 185-570ml of mixer.... So you can relax, youtube karen.

    • @whiskeyberger5029
      @whiskeyberger5029 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Fanta.... I understand It isn't a lot of alcohol, and I fully understand why Chad and Sara would do it even during a dry month. What I thought was weird was the bottle recommended it. Typically people who drink non-alcoholic spirits don't want any alcohol.
