At the age of 26, when he ascended to the throne, Sultan Suleiman aimed to build an empire more powerful than Alexander the Great and to render the Ottomans invincible. Throughout his 46-year reign, he became the greatest warrior and ruler of both East and West.
The young Suleiman received news of his succession to the throne during a hunting party in 1520. Unaware that he would be ruling a reign beyond his dreams, he left behind his wife son and took to the road with his close friend and companion Pargali Ibrahim to reach the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul. As they started their journey overland, an Ottoman ship set sail from Crimea in the Black Sea, bringing female slaves as gifts for the Ottoman palace… On this ship was Alexandra La Rossa, the daughter of a Ukrainian Orthodox minister, taken away from her family and sold to the Crimean palace. She had no idea that she would become Hurrem, wife of Sultan Suleiman and mother of princes, ruling the empire with him through bloodshed and intrigue.
As Sultan Suleiman conquered the world, his great passion for Hurrem would clash with his love for and trust in his closest friend and advisor, Grand Vizier Pargali Ibrahim, all set against the backdrop of the tension between Christian Europe and the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century.

Suleyman saying to Hurrem " No one will ever hurt you, not even myself!" What a crock of BS! Suleyman seemed to forget that many more instances yet to come! How many times did he hurt Hurrem by exiling, ignoring her, and banishment for things she did or was accused of, or her enemies set her up for? He could be so loving and tender at one time, then be a total knot head the other times!

It is ironic that Suleyman said something similar to Ibrahim. He said "no one will kill you, including myself" - and then Suleyman killed him. His words are worthless.

Not for one second during the entire series did I believe in Hurrem's love. She never loved him. She was smart, that's all. She knew she has no chance to survive without him. She was smart enought to understand she had to pretend to the end, that's her only chance to stay safe. And she did.
Actually, I can't blame her. She never chose slavery, the harem and Suleiman. Why should she love him? In fact, she did everything to survive, she is great.

@@fancandy139 she was afraid Suleyman would love somebody because if so she will lose all of her power. She was ready to die because she thought she already lost. She tired to fight. If he doesn't love her, she is nothing, she knew that.
I know the series always tried to make us think Hurrem loves Suleyman, but it never worked. She wanted power from the beginning. She lied to him thousands of times, she tried to kill his best friend when Suleyman literally cried over his hypothetic death. And she tried to kill his own son when Mustafa was just a teenager. She never loved him. She was forced to pretend she loves him.

Hatice didn't look like she was planning anything at all? She's terrible at this point, but before Ibrahim's execution, Hatice is one the least likely people to poison Suleiman aside from Hürrem herself.

@@tanjaceren984 Don't really see how this is a flex when Hürrem is equally remembered and has received considerable rehabilitation under historical discussion. Certainly enough to prove that the image of Ibrahim and Mustafa as "innocent, martyred victims" of Hürrem's is an entire fiction. Just like the idea that, if Suleiman died, Hürrem would loose all power-if the throne could be held for her sons, she'd just transition into the role of Valide Sultan.
