As they started their journey overland, an Ottoman ship set sail from Crimea in the Black Sea, bringing female slaves as gifts for the Ottoman palace… On this ship was Alexandra La Rossa, the daughter of a Ukrainian Orthodox minister, taken away from her family and sold to the Crimean palace. She had no idea that she would become Hurrem, wife of Sultan Suleiman and mother of princes, ruling the empire with him through bloodshed and intrigue.
As Sultan Suleiman conquered the world, his great passion for Hurrem would clash with his love for and trust in his closest friend and advisor, Grand Vizier Pargali Ibrahim, all set against the backdrop of the tension between Christian Europe and the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century.

Mahidevran was never Haseki. Such a title never existed until Suleiman created for Hürrem after marrying her. Hürrem was the first holder of the title
I always think makers of the show hated actual hurrem sultana. First they show hurrem sort of a gold digger instead of someone who had no other way to survive but gaining power , then they made mahi haseki which was completely wrong and downplaying power of actual haseki , then turning all harem women against her which literally put a question on her leadership skills and political tactics in harem , also showing that she mercilessly got mustafa killed when it is just rumors and speculations because of her being a rival and most frustrating making her daughter, the most powerful ottoman princess , into a pathetic and needy woman who just thinks highly of herself.
It also shows that whatever goodness they showed in hurrem in show is simply because she is the protagonist and people like her character. The thinking that hurrem was a "witch" instead of a "politically sound woman" is still strong in turks I guess .
Why did mahidevran acted like above hurem after the valide sulatana passed away? Even though suleiman married hurem..
@@bassplayer5366 Coz the director asked her to do so. In real life, she was "Mahidevran Hatun". You can see that on her grave in Bursa even today. "Sultan" was only for Blood Princesses. But Süleyman made an exception only for Hürrem. He freed her, married her, and made her the first ever Empress of The Ottoman Empire. Everyone bowed to her after the marriage, including Süleyman's sisters.
Rewatching this scene, it is beyond my comprehension how Nigar could fall for a swine like Ibrahim in the first place. I've always thought that dude needed anger management.

I don't think anger management would of helped him one bit! He would have to want to get control of his anger issues and get to the bottom of what caused those issues and I always get the impression Ibrahim enjoys venting his anger on those that can't fight back!

Well, the producers had a lot of ideas and phantasy for more drama.
Ibrahim,s screaming at everyone, who is "below him." What a sign of weakniss ,but hitting women, what a bullying coward
Exactly, women then and even now an easy target . even in the bollywood movie thappad , man didn't say anything to his friends and relatives when they were trying to calm him but slapped his wife easily when she tried . not only this but didn't even care to beg for forgiveness but to the person he was trying to fight with because he was his senior. He thought it is completely ok to slap his wife and even that in front of everyone and behave like nothing happened , shows how much we are still same .
We feel that now - in those times it was completely acceptable.
Whenever I feel sorry for Mahidevran's character, I watch this scene and realize again that everything that happened to her, she deserved. How cruel does one have to be to try to poison a pregnant woman? Heinous.

had ibrahim told the truth here, the whole timeline would have been different and he probably wouldn't have ended up the way he did
Except, Suleiman didn't need to be told-he was able to guess even with Ibrahim's silence. He decided to keep Mahidevran in the palace regardless for Mustafa's sake, which is a big part of why I don't really like this arc. The sense of it breaks down the longer it pans out.

But Mahidevran has him too twisted in her schemes of things .. & he begins to see Mustafa as a continuation of his rule ,of his post .Ibrahim calculated tht Suleyiman wasn't going to live long and Mustafa coming of age 18 or more .. following the Ottomon tradition wud kill or overthrow Suleyiman ..nothing surprising given their lineage .
So Ibrahim is prepared to lead Mustafa to kill his own father & so is Mahidevran and she tells Mustafa time & again whenever Suleyiman falls ill that Mustafa must be prepared to kill Hurrem & her sons the moment Suleyiman dies .
And Suleyiman is soooo stupid for an Emperor tht he keeps listening to the dumb words of his stupid mother who got him a woman who will kill her son for the empire .
Even when Mahidevran sends poison ,Vahlide cannot get herself to banish Mahidevran or even Suleyiman doesn't behead tht witch even thou she deserves it ..irrelevant of her rants of unreturned love or her pain of living alone or always remaining a slave never getting married to Suleyiman SENDING POISON TO A SULTAN'S TABLE WAS MORE THAN A REASON FOR HER TO BE PUBLICLY BEHEADED AND EVEN IBRAHIM FOR PROTECTING MAHIDEVRAN.
Mahidevran poisons her own life plus everything and everyone in it ..jus cause her hate/jealousy for hurrem consumes her .
All the more a reason for Sultan to punish her ..yet he stupidity never does ...and his own sons pay a price for it.

Mahidevaran killed Hurrem's Elder son Mehmed by infecting plague which completely unnoticed by hurrem, Mehmed once saved Mahidevarn's son Mustafa. It is so sad.

But she is headstrong and tries to do things 'her' way which causes Hurrem her 1st grandchild which wud ve propelled Hurrem & her whole family into more favorable terms with Sultan Suleyiman.
But Mihiriham gets iit aborted .

Hurrem was crying when mustafa died and mahidevran is so happy thinking that hurrem and her son have died .also she herself killed mehmet and laughed, no repentance..she should have been killed first
Also hurrem killed mustafa as a move of politics ( not justifying just explaining) just like mustafa said that he would kill hurrem and rustem if he would come into power but mahi killed mehmet simply because he was son of hurrem , suleiman loved him and to hurt hurrem .

If Ibrahim had been smart he would have befriended Hurrem instead talk about mistake. Why is he so invested in Mustafa its like he was his kid.
It's because Ibrahim is sly and ambitious.if anything should happen to Suleiman Mustafa would automatically become the Sultan and Ibrahim would become his main adviser and other higher titles
Because Ibrahim would have been able to control Mustafa and rule through him, but if any of Hürrem's children would inherit the throne, then he wouldn't be able to control them because she would have been by their side.
I have always wondered if Mustafa was his child. Ibrahim was always so interested in him. It gave me the creeps!
Because Mustafa was the most obvious successor to the throne at the time, so he wanted to remain close to him and his mother. If Ibrahim was smarter, he would have tried to stay as neutral as possible and strictly looked after Sueliman's interests instead of being so clearly biased. In that case, there wouldn't have been any question of his loyalty later and Hurrem probably wouldn't have felt so compelled to go after him once she started giving birth to children. She had no disputes with Bali Bey when he took over Ibrahim's position because she knew he was unbiased.

Huge difference between hurem & mahi is, hurem saves her workers & mahi drown them to save her self thats why hurem always has good slaves..
What’s more is that Hurrem always treated her servants like friends not slaves and always rewarded them while Mahidevran threw hers under the bus after using them. Examples: Gulsah, Fatma and Diana. That is why Gulsah and Diana switched allegiance to Hurrem and saw Mahidervan for the snake she is.
Hurrem learns the hard way ,her team is what keeps her alive and well-informed. And keeps only loyal people around her ,she has a knack for spotting a snake from miles ,thts why her team is kept happy as she rewards them financially / Posts at every turn .

They don't respect many facts for the sake of drama and 'creative license'. For example, the Valide Sultana, Hatice, and Sah Huban all got along with Hurrem and treated everyone fairly, yet were made into villains in the show, and by the time Suleiman became the Sultan, Hatice was a widow with at least 4 children and never married Ibrahim, so I wouldn't expect them to respect historical accuracy.
They killed lot of innocent girls like animals to cover their mistakes very pathetic

@@mcrose9067 Of course Ibrahim couldn't choke Mahidevran, but that's not why he chose to protect her in the end. He chose to protect her because he saw Mustafa as the next sultan and wanted to be in both his and his mother's good graces. So in a way, he was protecting his own interests instead of Suleiman's. Contrast that with how in later episodes Bali Bey handled things. He investigated and never tried to hide who the culprits were because he knew his main loyalty was supposed to be to Suleiman.

Mahidevran should’ve taken ibrahims advice here, she should’ve focused on raising Mustafa to become an unchallenged leader one loved and praised by the empire. Essentially forge an opponent hurrem couldn’t win against, Mustafa is the crown prince and automatically gains claim to the throne which she could’ve used to get back at hurrem
There was nothing like a crown Prince. The Ottoman’s did not follow that method. They continued to believe in the strongest prince wining the throne even if it meant fratricide.

It was so soul-satisfying to see the shock on Vahlide 's face when she learns Mahidevran plans to kill her & Suleyiman to get Mustafa crowned as Sultan & herself as Vahlide.
That was the best 'Pay-back'...u nurture a snake..sooner or later it will bite u.
