Thank you! I have a friend who is an avid knitter and has been wanting one of these for a long time and I'm excited to make one for her (and for me too--eventually, haha), esp one that has been developed through trial and error!
It’s amazing this came from the creativity gods when it did. I’ve been looking for this exact video for 6 months. I have the pattern but no idea how I’m supposed to put it together! You’re a lifesaver!
Omg! I have been wanting to get a knitting machine for so long, but they are just too expensive. I was literally talking to my friend about two weeks ago about designing and printing one, and then this shows up on my home page!! 🤩 Thank you so much for this awesome video, I can't wait to try this out now!!!
Thanks for the video, it helped me put one together for my wife who loves it. One question, this had a 60 needle spindle, but do you know where you got the 64 or 72 needle cylinder from for the larger sock? Thanks
There are some other makers on Thingiverse who have made files for different sizes of cylinders. You can also play with the files themselves to create a cylinder with any number of needles you like.
Amazing! I’ve been wanting a CSM and this video showed up in my feed the same day as a friend mentions they have a 3d printer. Question: Have you tried attaching a digital row counter? I”m looking at the magnetic kind.
We used an Ender to print the pieces. I sanded any really rough spots. That’s about it. The machines have worn really well. The only place where I see consistent wear is the the gear that turns the base of the machine. My husband has printed me some extra pieces so I can replace them when necessary but I haven’t had to yet. Hope that helps!
You may be able to print screws but I find the metal ones more sturdy and more resistant to wear and tear. The needles would be difficult to print as they have a hinge at the top which allows them to grab the yarn and pull it down. I also think metal needles will last longer.
I love your colors! Does it work well for you? I never really got mine to work well after printing JeepingJohnny's print last year. He's updated it and it basically looks like Mr Roboto19. Trying that one now, and crossing my fingers that it works better!
It can be a little fussy when figuring out the setting for different yarns but overall they work pretty well. I find I can get a tighter gauge with the larger number of needles.
Thanks so much for this video. Can I purchase sock machine needles of a certain size, or is purchasing the ones above and then cutting required for the cylinder?
Hi Jolene! This was such an informative video, I've been wanting to 3D print a sock machine since I saw it in thingiverse but it always seemed too daunting! It feels much less scary now, thank you! Please, what kind of 3D printer do you have? I'm sorry if you mentioned it in the video, I didn't catch if you did! It looks like a lovely smooth print :)
I can give you a rough estimate. The 3D parts took about 1 kg spool of PLA (according to Sir Knits a Lot.). The needles were the next most expensive part. Depending on where you source them, they might cost from $40-80. This also depends on how many you get. I initially ordered 150 needles and spent about $60. The screws and bolts will probably come to about $25 but that’s just a guess. Was this helpful?
Incoming, lots of viewers. This got served to my homepage.
Many thanks for your explaining how to assemble the machine. It's very helpful.

Well I stand corrected. Internet provides once again at 2am. An exception to the rule!
Excellent video :)
Thank you so much!
Very well done video, thanks for your efforts.
This is so helpful! I wish I could give you more than just one thumbs up. Thank you!
I’m so glad you found it helpful!
Lovely video. Looking forward to more videos related to this. Thanks!
Great video! I might have missed this, but does this model of csm allow for short rows in order to turn a heel or make toes? Thanks!
You can do short rows but I have not done it.

Well this was on my recommendations. Not gonna lie this is not what I expected. But I'm glad it was recommended great video!
Thanks! I hope you find it helpful. Or at least entertaining.
I am interested in making a machine. Your video is awesome but would you mind helping me with the type of Filament you used? Thank you!
We used PLA filament. Good luck!
Thank you very much!!
Thanks for the video, I just started printing a machine based on the German design, hope it works as well as this has for you.
Good luck!
Very impressive
Hiya! That’s soooo awesome! 🖤🧶🖤
Thanks so much!
What size 3D printer should I buy? Thanks for information and this is perfect!!!
My husband says the files are configured for routine 3D printers. His printers are 230 mm x 230 mm.
Amazing! I’ve been wanting a CSM and this video showed up in my feed the same day as a friend mentions they have a 3d printer. Question: Have you tried attaching a digital row counter? I”m looking at the magnetic kind.
I have not added a row counter. It should be pretty easy to do with this model but let me know how you make out.
Thank you for taking the time to share this. Does it need to be sanded after printing? And could you share what 3d printer you used?

@@jolineknitsalot thank you, appreciate your response
I have a good question could you 3D print the different screws needed and also can you even print the needles
You may be able to print screws but I find the metal ones more sturdy and more resistant to wear and tear. The needles would be difficult to print as they have a hinge at the top which allows them to grab the yarn and pull it down. I also think metal needles will last longer.
Hello! Could I use this model to make a flat panel too?
You can knit flat but your piece will only be as wide as the number of needles you have.
I love your colors! Does it work well for you? I never really got mine to work well after printing JeepingJohnny's print last year. He's updated it and it basically looks like Mr Roboto19. Trying that one now, and crossing my fingers that it works better!

A friend is printing for me and I'm working in sourcing the non printed supplies. I'm having a hard time finding how many needles the cylinder holds.
You get to decide what size of cylinder you make. A 60 st cylinder needs 60 needles. I think it’s a good idea to have some extras on hand.
@Joline Vretenar ah thank you. I didn't realize the file had options for the different sizes
Thanks so much for this video. Can I purchase sock machine needles of a certain size, or is purchasing the ones above and then cutting required for the cylinder?
Unfortunately you have to cute these needles in order to get the correct size for this machine.
I am just curious as to what your overall cost was. How big and what type of 3d printer did you use?
I would say my cost was $150- $200 CAD. (Canadian dollars). We reprinted some the pieces and did some trial and error.
Wouldn't an easy fix for the fasteners be to just drill the holes out a bit?
You could try that.

We actually have 2. One is an Ender 3 and one is a Geeetech. These are entry level printers according to Sir Knits A Lot.
I’m very excited to try and make this!! I know you made it yourself on your 3D printer but do you have any idea on the cost of the materials?

@@jolineknitsalot yes thank you so much!
I hope you don't mind me asking but can you tell me what size print bed that you used.
My husband does the printing for me. He says he used 235 mm x 235 mm.
@@jolineknitsalot thank you so much.
Hi, you print the machine with stampante 3d? do you print for other people? thanks
We use an Ender 3D printer and we do not make machines for other people at this time
@@jolineknitsalot do you have a pattern for madr socks machine?
what is the length of the already cut needle?
It’s about 7.8 cm.
I'd recommend you shoot the video horizontally next time!
Agreed. Still learning!
YIPEE!!!
Good luck! It took us some trial and error to find the right set up. I hope this video makes it a bit easier for you to get started.
@Joline Vretenar I know most people struggle to find the right setup that's why we were waiting for you lol! I'll let you know 😀
How can i get it and how much is the cost
Unfortunately, I do not sell these machines. This video gives you all the information you need to make your own.
video turn the wrong way
Thank you.
