We'll be keeping our old Defender 90 diesel. It's a rust bucket but has never failed to start and never over heated or broken down. I drive past shiny new electric cars that have left their drivers stranded in winter. I once took a detour in a flood and found 6 cars had turned off just to huddle behind me on the back roads. My son kept counting their headlights to make sure we left no one behind. We always have ropes and tools to get folk out of scrapes. Defender 90s are the best 👍

Richard with regards the Defender I have a D350 90…. Which is surprisingly fun! Yes it’s only two doors zero boot space but in the right mode It’s a real giggle….. yes somewhat of a bind the get people in the back (easier with partial electric seats rather than full electric) but lots of fun. The 110 with the same power plant isn’t too bad but alit more practical…. More doors more room… and as a reminder diesel have always given good torque figures …. With a little fettling you get a big smile …. Worth trying the full range …look forward to watching you choose.

Had the same ideas as you, settled on a leased 110 hardtop diesel through the company and its been great....you can even option the air suspension and stuff like that for comfort and usability if you so wish and its surprisingly cheap got mine for 423 per month for a very highly specced one not bad id say

This is beautiful; imagine it in 4K at high bitrate! (Talking about the intro)

So you could buy 2 OCTA Defenders for the price of and old ranger rover with an electric power plant, my mind is blown I'm honestly staggered and at best fully charged 200 miles which you will get no where near, the World has gone MAD.

Keen to see an OCTA review. Not sure there are any available as of yet so may be. Bit of a wait. Sat in one a Goodwood FOS over the summer. Looked immense. Some good used deals at present on defender 110 used Carpathian editions… basically fully loaded v8’s!! Go and try one of them.

I just bought a fully loaded 110 D350. I love it but I do wish I’d gone V8 now. It’s just they really detuned the V8 and performance is t that much different between the 2… but I find mine a little bit laggy on throttle response when you pull away. But I’ve got other stuff in the garage for fun so will stick with the diesel 😊

I was interested in the octa, went to my local dealer and was told it was top secret 😂 invite to order only , so I filled in a form and got an invite to order by email almost immediately 🙄
I followed the link etc and and found absolutely no information regarding the car 😮, it was still top secret but you could pay a 5k deposit 😂
When I though about what Landrover did to the 75th year anniversary model (colour) and the zebra striped stuff they love to produce I decided not to bother.
I didn’t want to be ordering something that might arrive pink with green wheels.😂
Seems you can just order one online now so I’m presuming the clandestine marketing ploy didn’t work. Who would have guessed !
I currently have a 2024 V8 Defender and it’s mental not sure now I’ve seen the octa that’s it’s worth the uplift ?
Good luck finding one to test drive 👍

Electric Car Converts in Sussex are the chaps to go to for an EV Defender or Classic. They do the conversion for less than £50K

You have to ask the company to put down the crack pipe asking 300k for a large mobile 70s electric cube. You have v8 sport cars, go for diesel whilst you can. The wide Genuine jaguar option arch spats look good. I would like to see you buy a 911 Ruf brand new and follow the buying process and a trip to the factory .

Having seen both Harry’s Garage and Petrol Ped try towing with a EV, then there is a significant section of the potential buyers that would find 4x4 EV’s in their current configuration useless. Whilst these road fund licence is going to really hit older vehicles, i suspect that if you had only one or two vehicles, then compared to the vehicle’s value, the owner will begrudgingly accept it.

One of the best EV conversions I saw was done on a Rolls Royce Silver Cloud. Not a fantastic range but smooth & silent, just what a Roller should be.

      @stephensalt6787 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

@ I wouldn’t be surprised if the Spectre dropped 50% in the first 18 months, possibly more. All the BEVs aren’t really up to replacing an ICE car yet, but the charging infrastructure is pretty damn woeful in its present state. I’ve no doubt that EVs are a superior tech but they can’t replace combustion for convenience yet.

AWD manual diesel with as less electronics and software as possible would be my choice of a car for 2025 onwards.

Diesel and petrol will be available for a long time as the government needs the fuel duty, personally I would never buy a new car as the tax is horrendous, and if before 2022 you will not be spied on by who ever 🙂

Taking a step back, what’s going on globally is nothing less than a deliberate attempt to force several, large mass manufacturers of petrol & diesels into bankruptcy or bankruptcy protection proceedings. The objective is to slash capacity to manufacture non-EVs, in an irreversible manner that also grants all involved with plausible deniability.
Note, the entire underlying rationale for the transition away from ICE cars & into EVs is a lie.
Knowingly incorrect. Long planned to leave most people with the impression that there’s rock solid “science” proving a hard link between burning oil, gas & coal is THE dominant cause of crisis level climate change. But there’s no such evidence. To the contrary, there is solid evidence proving that atmospheric CO2 is not even A driver of warming the planet, let alone THE most important driver.
So, given it’s a load of codswallop, what is the reason for lying about it? In my opinion, the best fitting explanation is that global “elites” intend to deprive us “useless eaters” of freedom to move around very much and not at all in an uncontrolled manner. They will do it by progressively making it more & more difficult to afford privately-owned, powered transportation vehicles. They’ll make it difficult to buy any ICE car by dint of crushing European mass manufacturers. They have nowhere to go commercially because Western governments have made it very easy for Chinese manufacturers of EVs to substantially undercut all other EV car makers. As a direct consequence, there’s no other future to anticipate except the sequential collapse of several of the biggest ICE car manufacturers, like VAG, Stellantis, the French & Italian combines & some others. Ford & GM Europe are also already in a very poor position.
Turning to VAG, it carries the second largest net debt burden on its balance sheet of all corporations in the world. It’s not just the second worst in the sector. Last numbers I had was that VAG is in net debt to the tune of €240 billion. There’s simply no way back for them. They’re prevented from selling their very desirable range of petrol and diesel cars because countries across Europe have adored sneakily different sounding “measures” to achieve the same result as exists in U.K. The noose is tightening yearly. At the same time, in recent years they’ve invested very heavily in EV manufacturing. The outturn is that re massively overstocked with finished ICE cars piling up at docks, marshalling yards, disused airports etc. unfortunately their EVs are also selling poorly because they’re much more expensive than Chinese EVs. Their costs have not been reduced to keep pace with slashed demand.
If I was an institutional investor in VAG debt, I’d want to know whether or not VAG has any kind of prospect of economic recovery. Obviously if institutional investors together pushed to recover some debts, it’d collapse the company. But if the situation was worsening, with no expected relief for the foreseeable future, they might do it anyway, to cap their losses.
Governments may also force certain cars off the road on insubstantial grounds relating to emissions, deflecting culpability to UN-controlled subsidiaries like IPCC and claiming that a previous administration had legally committed us to this Net Zero plan. Perhaps in this way, cars older than 10 or 15 years will be banned, not immediately, but at a future date to be announced shortly.
If you’ve the money and the space, I’d advise buying an additional vehicle to whatever you now have in order to minimise the risk that you’re left holding the baby in the event that a particular category is targeted for destruction. From that moment, vehicles in the condemned categories may become all but worthless.
The governments don’t even need to do anything silly to liquid fuel availability or price, though note that they have that in reserve in the event we manage to thwart their malignant plan for longer than they’d assumed.

I appreciate both ICE and EV powered vehicles. My approach was to buy a cheaper EV (Chevrolet Bolt in the US) for daily use and then buy whatever I felt like for entertainment purposes. We are in a transition time and having both power sources gives my family a good perspective on our future.

It's a difficult decision - one I'd like to be able to afford to contemplate.
I'd be wary, we don't know where we are going politically, my hunch is the current government will be single term. What happens then? If the current EV sceptical zeitgeist continues I can see political parties doing a 180 to secure votes. Wouldn't want to be stuck with an abominably expensive leccy vehicle then.
