    I think James this has become the thinking mans agricultural youtube channel, you include masses of interesting information, also include the massive logistics you have to contend with, mostly you manage it with a smile (with the exception of the parts issues😧😧) thank you as always

    Hi James I hit high power lines with my combine last week. All the trips went in the local town it sparked on grain lids which started a fire in the field. I was very lucky I have been driving combines for 40 years or so didn’t realise I had touch them. Electric board man came to the field within half an hour said how lucky I was. Me and the combine ok no damage. But something needs to be done. Thank you for looking into it

    This has become my favourite channel. Well presented by a seasoned farmer with an eye to the future and scientific approach, with a healthy injection of humour, honesty and a little scepticism. There’s a clear passion for the job and the people. I really respect and admire this whole team and genuinely look forward to the next episode. Farming is tough anywhere but especially in the UK where our weather is ruled by the jetstream which is about to deliver tropical rain from former Hurricane Ernesto over the next two days. I wish all at PX Farms well. Great fun to watch - thank you for taking the time and trouble. Regards from West Dorset.

    James, great videos every time, knowledge, experience, work experience, passion and ethics, your skills and explanation on all the overall concepts of what you need to grow crops for harvesting and to be eventually on the food market,, finally down to the low power lines, here in Ireland [Eire] , the local power supply, Electric Ireland /ESB the put in longer power line poles extra 15 feet taller, than original length, you are right in saying they are dangerously low, to a point of safety concern, of working, for livelihood and machinery, they are a law onto themselves, they can go and enter your land when they like, yet if you want to do something for your safety concerning power you have a list of guidelines, to follow, with a little upstart sent from health and safety officers to watch your work, and they don't understand farming life only office work, keep up your great work and momentum James, you are a leader in the field of research and growth, all the best to you and your family and your work team, Michael power county Waterford Ireland [Eire]

    Static in those pylons is an additional risk when a conductor passes near or under them. Micro shocks are known to occur if the magnetic field is strong enough and can also lead to sparks being triggered between the fields. I’ve seen this happen when irrigation pipes were being handled under low lying power lines . Scary stuff

    The power line issue is really serious, the estate I work on lost 45 acres of barley, numerous hedgerows and a brand new CR 9.90 due to low hanging power lines arcing onto the combine.
    Fortunately the operator was okay and very lucky as he had to leap from the cab.
    Central networks thought the power lines were high enough, obviously not.

    That was an interesting comment from your neighbour about the cost benefit connected with SFS. The gov. is so disconnected from actual farming and take so long to react to market changes that any scheme they come up with is out of date by the time it reaches us. On a similar note, I was impressed with the doc. on TB in cattle/badgers Friday evening (23/8/24) on television. There again there is a disturbing disconnect with reality.

    When I undertook my pre Royal Agricultural College training I spent 6 months on a farm and 6 moths working for Irelands Hall and Palmer in Norwich. My first few days were spent with the Senior Partner, Mr Ireland, it was his last week of work, retiring at 70. I will always remember two things. The first was to keep a note book and write down something about the client/owner/tenant/family you were meeting which was personal - eg children's names and ages, pets etc etc. When you went back to see them, sometimes a few years later, you could ask them and they would be impressed you remembered their names. Second thing, you must have a laugh every day and enjoy what you do. Clearly you pass on point 2 and maybe you have a notebook!!

    Re the alarms, bill the power companies, they make so much money from farmers nationally and its an absolute disgrace. Definitely worth bringing up to the NFU and your local MP (for whats its worth!).
    I wish you all a safe end of harvest.

  • @denniscarvell1828
    @denniscarvell1828 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    You are correct about the height of the power cable , a live charge will jump that gap to combine ,during curtain weather conditions, high humidity,ie fog, rain.
    I personally got an electric shock from over head lines, while in contact with metal fencing ,on a foggy morning.
    If you fit machine trailing earthing straps to the correct spec ,this would for the time being reduce the effect of any of a jump.
    A legal letter is required now to power supplier,as an operative could be seriously injured.

    Why not, James? If you can hire in one Claas Xerion 12.650 and see how that performs, then get three/four of them and do away with the Fendt challengers. Do not get the time wrong; those are nice tractors, but you can not run a farm with the problems, i.e., no parts are available anywhere for them.

    Really enjoying these videos, i drive hgv delivering animal feed we have had issues with wires on farms, all our lorries are equipped with wire watchers and they do work. We have had trouble challenging farmers to get them moved as it's a stalemate between farmers refusing to pay to bury them or move and the power companies also refusing to pay to alter them so nothing really gets done.
