One would imagine a “world renowned” transit system in Canada would have been designed and had contingencies to deal with snow.

Comes to show Metro Vancouver is always unprepared for this kind of weather.

When considering the length of the Skytrain system and amount of snow, I find it amazing that they managed to continue service despite the delays and complications.

ArcticoFolf No it’s an embarrassment and translink keeps raising fairs for this useless service???? I guess u can afford to stay at home and not work

@Deepthoughts Herenow if you’re given the choice of ‘useless service’ or ‘no service’, which would you chose if transit was your only option?
Also, I appreciate how you seemingly assumed my age by a slight margin.

@Deepthoughts Herenow You could say the exact thing to people of other countries. Not that I have to list any as, I take you can figure them out yourself. If you meant “You chose Trudeau” as my political stance, I’ll bring back what I previously told you, “I appreciate how you seemingly assumed my age.”

ArcticoFolf Other countries have it together....I guess you don’t know much about Eastern Europe. Are you so narcissistic and full of yourself that you think I’m constantly talking about you Wow. This conversation isn’t about precious you...OMG REALLY??? All I mean is this country is run by a bunch of incompetent fucks which want nothing more than to bring this country down. Since the Gordon Campbell and Christy Clark regime...they caused such an entangled web of destruction in every corner its trickles down to every way corporations and industries are run...maybe instead complain to the city / translink and your local constituency and actually do something instead of twirling your thumbs and one day waking up with your hand in the toilet. People don’t like it but I say it like it is

Deepthoughts Herenow It seems as though you’re ignoring the fact that other countries have experienced some form of poor leadership. Yes, it does go down to the people voting, which is a fair point in a country that allows it. If you’re wondering why I seem to be coming off as narcissistic, I’m hinting that I can’t vote for any change in leadership as of now. Hopefully that would further explain my previous ‘comment’. Your perspective is respectable however, you’re replying as if you’re from a ‘better’ country or region. So I find it difficult to understand for you to complain if it doesn’t affect you directly.
If you have nothing to add on about Translink’s issues, I’d rather not see it, good day.

In Alberta the buses are fitted with winter tires. Vancouver has low temp greasy snow and ice, coupled with steep hills, lots of them so why wouldn’t their buses have winter tires? The buses are spun out on major arteries like bridges which back up traffic for hours. Today spun out buses caused commuters delays of up to 8 hours to get from Richmond to Surrey as buses and trucks spinning out on the Alex Fraser, Port Mann and Patulo bridges. Have they not learned that all vehicles in the lower mainland should have winter tires. It needs to be mandatory.

When I drove a bus in Toronto, it blew me away how many of my fellow drivers got stuck because they drove right up to the edge of the curb to service a stop. Oh, and now they're stuck there with dozens of people on board.
I stayed out in the road. It's not as if anyone was going to pass on my right.
Then there were the winners who just kept on driving into deep snow because, hey! It's the route! I HAVE to keep going.

Well.... the majority of their fleet buses are NOT equipped with winter snow tires. What makes anyone think they will make it up hills? Translink refuses to spend money on snow tires.

it barely snows in their service area. Same reason Dubai doesn't get better drainage systems. The 1-3 rainy days a year which leads to flooding is not worth the cost of upgrading the whole system for just those days.

Here in the better part of western Canada🇨🇦. We have problems like this solved before you need a hockey stick to club your way through it. For snow, we don't shovel it. We rain leave it alone. Yesterday we had sunny temperatures, walk on the beach. For snow we don't shovel it away, we rain it away.
    Weather on Canada.

Hopefully the duration of this snowmaggedon marathon is such that it forces the various city councils to re-examine their winter budgets with how to keep the roads 'clear'. They can always take useful advice from other major Canadian winter cities who have it down to a science

Is translink waiting for a bus to roll over one day before considering snow tires??? Where are the taxes they collect from residents going towards? This is not fair to the driver of the bus and the commuter. This is a setup for failure on Translink’s part to allow buses to operate in these conditions.
