Did this ever get restored? It certainly doesn't look beyond redemption and they're really rare now

My dad owned several of these in Trinidad for his bakery in the 70's.. they used to come primed only and he would paint them his colours...I remember them having braking nad handling problems and crashing often even one time one came in on a wrecker with a piece of concrete bridge rail impaled through the very thin front panel and i remember my dad exclaiming how a passenger would be dead had they been there. Sure good for the the nostalgia, but crappy van always, thank god for the Toyota Hiace that he replaced them with..He also had the big square ones with the sliding doors for driver and passenger and double wheels at the back, they also came in grey primer, they were a whole other story,I remember how HARD everyone said the steering was..lol..

My brother worked in ATS many years ago and he said the wheels were hell to take off from these vans.

The Commer Dodge vans were cool and this is a great video. Mind you my little ex BT van is a cool classic too.

My first van as a brand new Post office Telephones engineer in 1980.... Absolutely awful, some wonk had the bright idea of fitting cable jointers vans with a "high top" ... lethal on a windy day ....great times.

When i first worked for 'British-Telecom' as it then was,one of these was my first van. What a piece of crap it really was! Like driving a top-heavy roller skate with next to no brakes.Happy times!

The front wheels were behind the driver/engine and also very much narrower than the body! That made them very easy to roll over.
Our local MT garage made an invention to reduce petrol consumption - it was a device under the accelerator made out of a sturdy spring coupled to the vacuum line. The harder you tried to accelerate, the more the spring pushed back. A great safety aid!!!!

Rust came as standard with these vans. They could turn to dust in twelve months.

This is AWFUL....to see a lovely old VAN like this will break most owners hearts. It seems like the metal is holding the rust together. Looks like an IMPOSSIBLE restoration but I hope you pull it off....I well remember these in the 70s and 80s as they came in Post Office green too, before BT took over.

They only made the Spacevan after Commer was bought by Chrysler in 1979, unless you mean they still made FC - Style vans...
