Brilliant lorries, I was a house delivery coal man for 18 years and the majority of coal lorries were always bedfords, perfect height for loading and carrying off ,and they could work the 3 and a half tonners loaded with 6 ton could still get you up hill, but we had to look out for the WEIGHTS AND MEASURE men Haha.

Drove one in '77 for about 8-9 months. Great truck that could stop on a sixpence.

I was a coalman for 18 years back in the day when every house in the country had coal fires and it was always the trusty Bedford lorries, perfect height for loading and carrying off ,just an all round reliant lorry, capable of doing any job ,ie the 3 and a half tonner loaded with 6 ton of coal Haha, they were the days.

I drove this in a kipper version between ages 12 and 16 on our camping. It was pretty fast with the six cilinder petrol engine.

Looks like an Euclid dump truck in the background- I had the Dinky Toy when I was a kid. I think you wound a handle and that raised the tipper body!

Used to love driving MKs in the forces, not so much if you got contact right, because you could always guarantee your combats getting caught and ripped on that sodding handbrake when bugging out of the cab.

It reminds me of my old 8 tonner VJL 922 ok she wasn’t fast with the old 4 speed box but I thought the world of her ,

VJL 922 Registered in the Holland area of Lincolnshire, plate now worth about £2500, if you can find it! Wouldn't mind finding RDH 32R my old TK reg. Ex Dudley council 7.5 ton with a box van, had many trips from Pinchbeck to the wholesale markets with her.

Perfect shot of checking the oil , now try taking the freaking head off , 330 were not that bad but the 466/500 were a bastard ! Everyone that worked on Bedfords had a bad back , they finished many mechanics working life !
Give me a ford D series , they were crap but at least you could get at them .

Thank you British movietone, lovely footage, we used to have a TK tipper double drop side, we used to tow a phoenix tar sprayer with it as well, it was only a 4 pot, but lorry 🚛 just used to keep going, change them filters regularly and she'll look after my dad used to say, and grease is cheaper than bearings, those were the days 👍
